This is something I will never understand. You cans till like the art of someone you do not agree with. If you would do that you could basically not listen, watch or read anything anymore. Just enjoy the art

Also to make such a decision because of such a minor thing Is also pretty ridiculous if you ask me. Act like an adult...

I don't think some people on the left realize their response to Trump counterintuitively fuels his platform and is ineffective. Blasting Kanye isn't going to change his mind. Nor will it move the needle for people who would support Trump because Kanye said he does. The way leftist critics behave in terms of worrying and being outraged doesn't make sense to me. It's a waste of their dragon energy.

The people that care, are scared their wall is cracking. A famous black man is saying you don't have to back democrats. Its harder to call someone like Kanye a uncle tom or coon or any of the other things they call other black independent thinkers like Tomas Sowell, Larry Elder, or Ben Carson.

I totally agree but the left deeply cares. The sheer and utter fanaticism coming from the left is quite disturbing, you can feel the left's social and cultural aggression. They literally want to own every industry, institution and organisation. From the boys scout to sports to music to gaming. They want their ideology seeping through everything.

I'm honestly sorry about the situation you find yourself in.

But forget about Trump for a moment. At the same time, I'd ask that you have some empathy for the conservatives of the world, who have many times found themselves in a "a celebrity I like said hateful things about my ideology, or someone who supports my ideology, or they support someone who is hateful of my ideology" kind of situation. What is a rarity for you is a common occurrence for them.

This certainly happens recently about Trump, but it's been going on for decades. It's also, somewhat ironically, one of the things that likely helped put Trump into office.

No one should be using Kanye as an influence of political attitudes, and neither the right, nor the left, should be championing him as some sort of bastion of knowledge. I don't understand the concept that followers of the right think that celebrities hold some sort of magical sway of power over the left. They don't. Stop listening to memes.

I cannot stand the focus that the right and left put on trivial shit.

1. Climate Change
2. Healthcare
3. Debt/deficit management
4. Livable wages
5. Revoking Citizens United

Actual issues.

It'll be interesting to see reactions from people if he says something negative about conservatives or anything like that. Kanye is very unpredictable. Though it is funny the people who've hated him for the past 15 years suddenly love him, and the people who loved him now hate him.

Also another observation I've noticed with Americans is how as of recent you guys associate "free thinking" with being conservative. That doesn't really make sense, it's about as much free thought as being a liberal in your country by your own definitions

That's just a narrative pushed by conservative and liberal media. It's a huge mistake to trust organizations that depend on ratings, because they will push the fringe as being the norm. They know that liberals want to see information that reinforces their view, and conservatives do the same.
 
Ok I love the new direction that gaf has taken.. but I'm going to say this, as a left leaning person myself.. The hypocrisy of some right leaning posters in this thread, who has been crying about the tone towards conservatives in the past, and lumping them in with alt-right and Nazis.. you should know better than to do exactly the same with left leaning people!
If you can't be precise in your criticism of the laud minority's both "sides" have.. then we haven't moved very far from what gaf once was..
I applaud the people who do difrinciate between extreme view points and the rest of us.. but I'd really hope that at some point you would also turn your attention to the people who is on your "side" of the argument, but are doing exactly what old gaf did just in a mirrored fashion..

Wait, we haven't? I don't see people being banned for sharing a different opinion from a mod. I don't see people actively going on witch hunts to try to cause someone to lose their job because they supported GamerGate or made a joke they don't like. I don't see people making claims that someone is a racist or a transphobe without evidence. People are able to have conversations on either side freely as long as they remain respectful.

We have moved miles away from what Gaf once was, and the for the better. Though I do agree that we can do better, I just find your wording a tad disingenuous here.

Im Not referencing you though.. since I haven't seen you lumping every body together.. I haven't contributed to this thread at all since I'm at work.. and i really not that interested in what Kanye West political leanings are.. I just like to read the discussion.. and will contribute when I think I have something to say that hasn't been said before or if like I was in my previous post want to point something out that I think is hypocritical or that I think is wrong..
I read through the thread and got a little annoyed with the political flag waving some of the posters felt was necessary, that really doesn't bring anything to the discussion and I focused my post on the right wing posters because the left wing posters where called out by everyone and there mother while post like this

I understand that.. It may be my English shortcomings that is preventing me in articulating my self properly.. so sorry for that.. All I'm trying to say is that "typical left" when talking about an extreme group of people is not the way to go.. and if people can't stop lumping people into one block.. then I cant see how we have moved on, other than the moderation being much better..

...Ye's mix you posted does a good job at redirecting those talking points to his own purposes, same way his later albums are self-aware and redirect the negativity about his changes lyrically/musically.

Is Double Toasted pretty good? I like watching shows on YT where the hosts have strong opinions (either way). "The Lorax of black people" I mean that was funny.

It seems like Kanye tries to spill his albums into the cultural stream of consciousness. This song is talking about stuff he was tweeting DAYS ago. It's weird. I don't even know if the song will be on the new album but it so 'fresh'. And he has the world talking about him. Off a few Tweets. I'm sure that's why he feels empathy to Trump.
 
I wish I were shocked that Kanye is getting this much blowback. Perhaps this will make the true liberals understand why the polls were so wrong. The authoritarians have made something this insignificant to a person's contributions and character into a mortal sin. People don't need to agree, but treating disagreements as disagreements and not as dead to them over nothing is important.
