Day one double-dip for me. Seriously wish this was SC coming out but historically speaking since Falcom games have been doing well on Steam we might be able to safely expect this one as well. So hopefully Winter 2014.

At least it is coming out, for awhile it seemed like it wouldn't be coming out to the west.

I'll try and give this game another shot, but man, I fucking hated it.

I think it was the battles. Seemed so god damn cheap sometimes. Mind you, I only got a few hours in.

I'll try it again since everyone raves about it.

No "might be" about it -- it's coming! It's just taking a while. ;)

Also, a couple other commonly-asked questions that might be worth noting in the OT:

- While PSP saves are not compatible with this version of the game, Japanese PC version saves are (though the reverse is not true: if you save your game on the Steam or GOG version, you won't be able to back-port it to the Japanese PC release).

- Saves should also be cross-compatible between the Steam and GOG versions, though I don't know if that's been specifically confirmed just yet.

- Although we were unable to provide you guys with the original Japanese battle voices, those of you who own the Japanese PC version of the game can easily copy the voice files into the Steam or GOG game folder and our version of the game WILL work with them. We just can't provide them ourselves.

- The monster guide won't be in at launch, but the game still keeps track of monster data as you play, so once it's patched in, all the monsters you've already fought before the patch WILL be present in the guide.

This game doesn't stand out to me in any way when I look at it, but when I read people talk about it, it's apparently the most amazing thing ever or something. What's the deal, specifically? Amazing story/amazing combat/amazing everything?

I'll probably get this anyway, because it's a JRPG on the PC and that's a good thing that should happen more often.

Because it not about this game specifically . It the series itself which has been developed over an entire 10 years. The one advice that I would give to newcomers is to be a bit patience with First Chapter.

Splendid! Maybe some good soul will share them :p

Excited to replay it again, maybe not day 1. Will triple dip later though.
Now gotta decide if I want to continue on both the PC and PSP.

I'm so excited to replay this game and to see others play it.

Sara has done an amazing job, I would have been happy with a straight port and instead we're getting the definitive version of FC.

This is cool. Can you tell me which .dat file the va is stored in? Or just the file size of the correct one would suffice. I have the Win8 release.

edit: i guess not. i'll just have to try it when the game comes out i suppose. :p

If the OT title can be edited, I submit "TitS on Steam NOW!" as the obligatory lulzy subtitle. Although perhaps that should be saved for "TitS SC NOW" when SC comes out.

Looking forward to it a lot. The soundtrack has been playing a lot since XSEED announced the game's PC release date.

How's the combat?
Turn-based with random stat/RNG modifiers attached to random turns. You have a sidebar showing the sequence of player and enemy turns a la FFX, but the modifiers are derived from Xenosaga's system. Players and enemies also have to move around a square grid and account for range/AoE, and moving itself can take up whole turns.

... I expect TitS to be small.
TitS ain't fake, my friend.

If you really want to play Ark of Napishtim right now, go to Falcom's online store and order a copy (they should do international purchases and shipping IIRC). Then install the game and the English translation patch.

XSEED's not ready to publish the game on Steam/GOG yet, as they're finishing up projects like SC, Brandish: TDR, Akiba's Trip, Story of Seasons, &c.

I see. But wasnt there some twitterpost or something like that that hinted that Ark of will also be released on Steam or was I drunk? (Probably the latter ;))

And, if you are actually willing to go that far, here's a guide to help you with ordering. Also, here is the game's store page. At this point though, I recommend just waiting for a Steam release. My guess is it'll be another year or so (though there's nothing to back that up, mind).

Words can't explain my hype for this game coming out to PC, even though I already own it on my Vita, as well as the PSP physical release. Gonna be great to be able to play this on my monitor while blasting the amazing music. xSeed you guys are amazing, announcing it out of nowhere 9 days before release. The hype is real folks, if you didn't get a chance to play this on PSP/VITA and you are a JRPG fan with access to Steam, you owe it to yourself to give TiTS a shot!

Not necessarily true about the console projects holding us up. For those, we work with individual developers and their schedules, but PC projects are handled by our programmer, Sara. She can sometimes juggle projects, but her main focus is on one at a time. Right now, that's Trails in the Sky. We also have Corpse Party and Trails SC announced. PC work internally has always been between me and/or Tom, so everyone else in the office can handle other projects.

That's not saying anything about Ys VI, I just mean that in general, PC projects aren't held up by projects like Akiba or SoS.

YOU! Yes, you! The person reading this who isn't double-dipping!

Do you like...

Suikoden's overtly meticulous yet layered world-building?

Excellent music by the illustrious JDK Band?

JRPGs made "like they used to"?

A Japanese game that has none of the skeevy PG-rated hentai mess polluting so many games where it doesn't belong?

People what know how to write dialogue that coulda came out of actual human beings' mouths?

BOY HAVE YOU FOUND THE GAME SERIES FOR YOU.

Can you save your game anytime or like in most jrpgs you have to wait until you are near a crystal/diary?

Yes, but do remember this is because of it being in PC's house so PC's rules instead of lesser, more base reasons.

This part's about the recent Fire Emblem, innit?

I've never played the Suikoden games, but hearing that the tone's more like the Game Arts JRPGs is neat. Haven't played a good, meaty JRPG in almost a decade, this could be the one.

Can we at least get a a subtle *wink* indicating that we should probably hold off on importing the Japanese version of Ys VI? Please?

You can blindfire recent names off and have a good chance of scoring a hit, really.

Also, the battle system has derived elements of Grandia's battle system. GO GO GO GO

Enk

makes good threads.
I was really crossing my fingers for some VR support in this like what was surprisingly included with Half Minute Hero 2, but I can take it as is. Still very excited to play a good, traditional JRPG off the big screen again and not just be relegated to handheld.

Waiting to purchase, waiting to double dip. This is getting hard to control - I'm already in for 3 copies (one for me, one for a giveaway winner, another for a friend who will love this game).
