Chuck is on monday nights... and the Office isn't as amazing as it was during seasons 1-2, but its still a good show; 30 rock is a good show... you forgot Community, which right now is one of the best shows on TV imho, and Parks and Recreation, which has had an amazing second season... NBC has a solid 2 hour block of comedy shows

NBC is the best regular network when it comes to content. Easily.
 
I watched the part with the husband and wife arguing over the stripper pole. And the laugh track was so overly used, it was ridiculous. This was in front of a live audience? It must have been pretty quiet then.

You've laughed at The Middle? I think it's surpassed Two & A Half Men and Big Bang Theory as the worst comedy on tv for me.

Nay, Parenthood was supposed to premiere in September's but got delayed because Maura Tierney had to get treatment for breast cancer. Eventually she had to be replaced by Lauren Graham.

I was really happy to hear that Seinfeld was doing something again... but this? Why isn't he writing a sitcom? He doesn't have to star in it... but write something. Not this.

Maybe it's one of those shows that gets better in time... like a wine. Right?

God damn the show is just so..... absolutely bland.

If they had the balls to push the envelope on this, say a Tough Crowd-style panel, they might've gotten something out of it. At this rate, the Larry David/Ricky Gervais pair-up is about the closest they're going to get.

Or maybe if they had the couple get into their argument on live TV, instead of just showing up for the unenforceable "result."

And out of all the panelists, Jerry looked like he had the least to say. Maybe that was him dealing with the retardation of his own "produced" show, or he's just completely lost it.
 
I thought it was funny enough but to each his own. I'll keep tuning in for the time being personally. I can't wait to see Ricky and Larry together.

Me giving both Community and Parks second and third chances have been documented in their respective threads. I find Parks bad, Amy Poeler is not likable or funny, none of the characters are. Community had a funny moment when Prof. Chang danced in one episode.

The writing on all these shows is just poor. Watch any episode of Moder Family or The Big Bang Theory, then go watch Community. Let me know how that works out.

I can agree with you that the writing on Modern Family is fantastic, but Big Bang Theory? The writing on that show is so mundane; it's such a typical CBS comedy. I tried to watch it once but the characters are so boring, so unlikable that I had to turn it off immediately.

Now, I'm not saying that Community is the best written comedy on TV, because it's not, but at the very least it has very detailed and interesting characters and, most of the time, a solid plot. I can't say the same for BBT in either of those categories.

On topic: I'm not sure how I feel about the Marriage Ref. As someone else said in the thread, it seems really strange that Seinfeld would come out of TV retirement to do such a low-brow reality-comedy show like this. I guess I'll check it out if only to see him and other greats (Baldwin, Gervais), but I'm really not expecting it to be worth anything.
 
I like to remember Seinfeld as he was in 1998 when he dropped out of the race. Before all this stupid shit. Remember Bee Movie? Never happened. Seinfeld never pushed this non-existent movie on every NBC viewer every 5 minutes for months. It never happened.

Rest in peace, 1998 Jerry Seinfeld.

this post explains a lot; we clearly have verrrrrry different tastes in comedy, although you might be the only one arguing that BBT has superior writing to any of the shows I listed

NBC is pretty much not in my radar. Heroes just had their worst season, watched for the hell of it. The Office, SVU, are tired now IMO. 30Rock is good but not as crazy about it, its not "Must See" to me anymore.

I think BBT is definitely held in higher regard by critics than Parks and Rec or Community if only for Jim Parsons. I haven't watched P&R after the first episode personally so I can't comment on it, but I do enjoy Community quite a bit. Between the two (BBT and Community), BBT is certainly a better show in my eyes. I like both though so no sweat off my back.

Modern Family is unquestionably the funniest show on TV though right now. Nothing is close.

Yeah, I'd credit the ratings entirely to the Olympics. It will start tanking on Thursday, just like Leno did.

It seems pretty obvious that this is the result of NBC scrambling to fill up the air time vacated by Leno's move back to 11:35. They're just trying to hold themselves over until next fall when they can replace it with their next fucking stupid idea - whatever that may be.

No, this isn't. This has been in the works for awhile. Way longer than the Conan/Leno debacle.
 
The saddest part of the whole show was watching Seinfeld fake-laugh his way through the entire damn thing, because he's trying so, so hard to sell it.

It was embarrassing.

I will admit, BBT isn't as well written as those others. Let's just say it's a guilty pleasure of mine, I find Sheldon funny.

Modern Family is very much a successor to arrested development. It's got that same kind of weird sarcastic and clever humor. The whole dog-butler thing seemed like something you would see in AD.

Community has got some cute girls but that's it.
 
It wasn't the worst thing I've seen, but I'm glad it won't last.

I like Modern Family, but not In The Middle as much.

Thursday nights, NBC has my full attention for Community, Parks & Rec, Office, and 30 Rock.

Why are you guys convinced that this show will fail? Lots of well-known celebrities discuss "amusing" issues dealing with marriage. Plus, the show is probably very cheap to produce and airs just once a week. The vast majority of shows on television don't need to be quality to succeed, so why would this show be any different?

We'll see. Since the show only airs once a week, I don't think Seinfeld will have much problem continuing to get good celebrities. Plus, if it does well in the ratings, and given the precedents, many will want their chance at the same exposure.

You could be right, though. But I don't think this show is destined to fail, shitty as it may be.

I got violently angry every time I had to sit through the commercial for this shit tonight while watching Community, etc.

Eva Longoria Parker - "I'm voting for the wife, the wife, and the wife for whatever the next one is!" Husband/wife humor has got to be the laziest humor there is. Even lazier than dick jokes.

Watching celebrities and a 1970s studio audience cackle at their horrible misreading of our appetite for this type of tripe just fills me with so much bile.

So much penis-like bile...
 
I watched 10 minutes of this and muted the volume and put my headphones back on. Terrible doesn't even begin to describe it. The next time I looked up at my TV I saw Jay Leno and Brett Favre conversing and I threw up in my mouth a little.

Fuckin' NBC.
