The Mega-Cave Shooter Post, because they're totally awesome and sweet

I was expecting they would do a PCB Kit styled box with the Cave Shooting Collection logo to be honest. Kind of like this, pardon the lazy shop.

I like how minimalistic the actual box is though.

Ohh,

That is a big box.

Kinda quiet on the LE for SDOJ. I'm sure hoping they do have one planned, though.

I ran it through Google translate quickly, and it sounded like there will be a "regular" limited edition, and a "special" limited edition. Couldn't make out the details though.

Otherwise check if the system mute switch is on, which is either the hardware switch next to volume or in the multitasking tray to the left, depending on what you have the rotation lock set to.

What are some good 360 region free shooters to get? How about ps3?
For 360 Mushihimesama Futari and Espgaluda 2. Akai Katana is released over here and so is Dodonpachi Resurrection. Muchi Muchi Pork/Pink Sweets is also region free.

PS3 doesn't have a CAVE game on it. For 360, I would recommend getting Futari first.

Is the xbox360 Mushihimesama Futari DLC worth it? It's pretty expensive, and I've never caught it when it was on sale.

We don't have "get out of jail free" cards, but if we did, she'd have one.

blackoak knocked out a translation of the entire interview. Worth a read, but if you're short on time:

SDOJ comes in three packages: Regular, Limited and Super-Limited.
Limited has the 360 AST and a B6 material collection (artbook, developer comments)
Super-Limited has the 360 AST, the arcade OST, an A4 material collection "and more".

The listing of the contents for the super-LE at the bottom of the Famitsu page is explicitly marked (temporary), so I guess they may actually end up putting more stuff in it. Price has yet to be determined. The arcade OST was previously only available directly from Cave, as a note.

Cave Shooting Collection also comes with the OST for each game. Makes sense as the OSTs were often packaged with the superplay DVDs.

...Jesus. That sinking feeling when you're sold on something and realize now you're gonna have to scrounge up $400 from somewhere to get it... :|

I already have the arcade OST, but gotta get those A4 materials. I hope the "and more" isn't something that would get you flagged for child porn at customs.

Original and Maniac mode are similar, only tweaked to inflate your score: more enemies, more bullets to cancel and more firepower. They feel like Futari on steroids to me. God mode, on the other hand, is quite different from Ultra; it's a bit easier (relatively, it's still hard as fuck, just not as insane as Ultra) and the scoring system is similar to Maniac, while Ultra is like Original. I'd say it's worth it for God mode, and the other two are nice extras.

I'm a beginner shmupper but Black Label Original is my most played mode. I find the BL modes to be pretty fun, especially when the standard modes are kicking my ass.

I'll just get the regular edition, it's all about the game for me

SHOCKING NEWS: G-Gee has updated ESPGaluda II for Android. Sound works now. (Nexus 4)

Bonus: It looks like they've also made it compatible with the Nexus 7. Good job fellas, better late than never I suppose.

I saw that, unfortunately Espgaluda and Dodonpachi are still broken on Galaxy S3, I get a black screen same as before.

Really? OK, I take back any good will towards these bums. If your app is busted on one of the most popular phones on the market, you got problems.

I was always surprised that Cave never handled their own porting. If I'm not mistaken, one of their guys was head of some sort of Japanese Android developers association.

After playing some Daioujou Black Label in an arcade, I'm antsy for a home copy. The easiest avenue appears to be the 360 port, but I do not own a JP console. Even if I did, the console would not be connected to the Internet, and I understand that a few patches are needed for it to play its best, right?

I hear the PGM1 and 2 versions have sprite and sound issues, and purchasing an actual arcade PCB seems like it'd be way out of my budget. I did find a PCB of the regular version for $700, but I don't own a cab. Is there another means of playing that's worth it, or should I get the 360 version and hope there's an easy way to make my console region free someday? I've got most of the major Cave titles on the 360 already, DOJ's taunting me >_>.

If you´re seriously considering going the PCB route you could buy or build a Supergun and play arcade PCBs in your TV, those usually are around $200 in ebay. Don´t pay too much though, lately I´ve seen some sellers trying to sell them for $500, for that kind of money and if you have the space you could get a nice cab.

A Japanese guy cleared Mushihimesama Futari 1.01 Ultra mode:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tz_fViahnA

This seems to be the first confirmed 1CC of the game mode. Since this has been accomplished all that remains is the holy grail of Cave clears, and the one that may just be out of reach for human ability: a 1CC of Ultra Ver 1.0, which is harder than 1.01 and is only playable on the original arcade board. It has 2 fewer bomb carriers than 1.01 and less slowdown in many spots.

I hope I'm not going too OT, but I've decided to look into your suggestion and found this. Don't need component inputs; the most important thing for me is to get RGB with stereo RCA jacks, and this offers them. Is it priced too high though?

I've been wary of collecting PCBs because I can't really name any that I would want to play. There's Valkyrie no Densetsu, but all of the Cave games I'm looking for I can find on consoles, and I already have a consolized MVS. I should probably look elsewhere, but do you have any arcade-exclusives that aren't fighting games that you can recommend?

On topic, I went ahead and purchased the Arika ports of Daioujou and Espgaluda. It's not Black Label, but close enough! Managed to snag a brand new Japanese 90000 PS2 to go with it, feels good to own one again!

That´s about $100 more than I would pay for it, but it seems to cover the basics and seems pretty well built. RGB out capable too, and compatible with AES sticks out of the box. If you don´t mind overspending a bit, I would go for it.

Also pretty cool you got a NTSC-J PS2 90000, been looking into getting one since I´m sick of Swap Magic for my imports and I don´t trust the local fellows to chip my NTSC-U 90001 unit.

I just picked up Mushihimesama Futari Ver 1.5 yesterday for $40.

Just played it today and really loving it. It looks and plays absolutely fantastic. Such a beautiful art style. Its a damn shame that these games aren't more popular in general.

how does android version hold up compared to xbox version, ie dondon resurrection.

full aracde experience or no

Game's all there, but balance is broken by move-as-fast-as-you-can-swipe mechanics and the virtual buttons just don't provide the dexterity needed to actually score well.

The removal of a ton of movement-related rules makes the mobile versions fundamentally different games. Much easier ones, too.

I dicked around with MMP/PS over the weekend. They're really fun and different from the standard Cave fare. You can definitely taste the Yagawa special sauce. Too bad they never got the HD loving other Cave titles received. Pink Sweets in particular could have definitively benefited from it.

Dash Kappei

Not actually that important
So pink/muchi platinum is confirmed region-free as well like the original release?

Cheapest is play asia I suppose?

Edit: yes and yes (also free shipping)

Well, PS3 has the PS1 ports of Donpachi and DoDonpachi off PSN :p
As well as some pretty cool non-Cave stuff (Einlhander, Shenryu, Raiden etc,). As far as disc releases, only Under Defeat HD (godly) and that loli shooter afaik

I'd say AmiAmi would work out cheaper in most scenarios. Play-Asia is almost always the priciest option in the end in my experience.

Oh wow.. that non "The Best" version of Muchi Muchi/Pink Sweets has skyrocketed in price, hasn't it? I guess I lucked out by ordering it on release.

That's a "The Best" version you bought.

The original release: Check eBay. I'm seeing $100-200-300+ listings.

Maybe "The Best" version will bring those prices down to reality, though.

Sorry, just noticed the "non" in your sentence. My bad!

EDIT: Totally past my bed time...ahahaha

I blame "The Best" terminology... it kind of confuses the English brain.

All the Japanese companies use it too.... kind of a weird name that stuck like "Greatest Hits" or "Game of the Year Edition" in the West.

eh... the prices of the original really haven't changed too much other than the used copies going down a bit (I should have sold mine when I could!!).

It's just that there's a flood of newer copies going out since sellers were probably hoarding them waiting for it to go up even higher in price to make a steep profit. It's actually pretty awesome/hilarious to see them get bitten in the butt since it appears they only bought it to make a profit and not for the sake of actually enjoying the game.

I got a thing lately for bullethells that let me convert bullets on the screen into medals. Maybe its all that try and fail I did on Akai Katana. I'm not talking chain reaction the screen bullets though I'm talking make giant floating visual eye candy piles of money.

What Cave games have this sort of mechanic and visual aesthetic?

I think Espgaluda and its sequel embody the mechanic; slow time down to create denser fields of bullets on the screen, kill enemy while time slowed to convert all bullets it shot into gold (or in zetsushikai, into more bullets).

Not really the same, but MMP has a very satisfying system where killing enemies with the lard cannon causes the enemies themselves to convert into medals, which are then sucked in once you resume regular shot then the next enemy you kill with the lard cannon becomes -larger- medals.

Started playing Muchi Muchi Pork again, it has been a while. Got really hooked again.

This game is fucking awesome. I love the music, the stages and the scoring mechanic. It really is a masterpiece. I also love the sound when bullets hit those metallic enemies. My next goal is to 1CC this one. It's pretty hard at this point, but I'm getting better. The key is to utilize those bomb fragments frequently.

My top 5 Cave releases on the 360 at the moment are:

1. Mushihimesama Futari 1.5
2. MMP/Pink Sweets
3. Akai Katana Shin (for Slash mode)
4. EspGaluda II
5. Deathsmiles

Sadly I don't own a J-360 so I haven't tried Mushi HD or the 5pb releases.

Espgaluda? The same Espgaluda I bought that I had the incredible misfortune to get a bad copy of that I had to return and then never bought again due to needing my finances?

Damn that hurts. I lost even more than I thought in that incident.

At least Espgaluda 2 and Muchi Muchi pork/pink sweets are both fairly affordable. Strangely though I see two listings for Espgaluda 2 now...one claims its region locked and the other doesn't. I take it one is Platinum collection though.
