Kick ass.
Very underrated band. Not to be confused with various other indie rock bands with the same name!

I remember listening to When All The Laughter has Gone album and being honestly afraid of it. Scary shit and really powerful stuff when listened in the "right" mood.

There's some pretty interesting stuff in the Finnish doom scene. Gracefallen by the band Unholy has some stuff on it I imagine would make losing one's life quite easy.

Let us know how it is. Can't wait to pick it up myself.
With gusto.

I think it's great. They ditched the cello (I don't think Lori Goldston plays on the record), and went back to a more Hexy sound. Three of the five songs have vocals (Mark Lanegan & Rabia Shabeen Qazi), which really helps providing some kind of anchor for the ears, if you know what I mean. I love, love, love the mantric, Om-like atmosphere of the Bees or Angels & Demons LPs, but it's nice to know where you are on the album without looking at the track list for once. And the vocals just fit, it's like that last ingredient that was missing on their newer albums, and you only know it now, after they added it.
The two instrumental tracks are a bit on the playful, even slightly agressive side. The opener feels like classic infused modern doom (which means: Pallbearer) at times, while Even Hell Has It's Heroes (and yeah I just wanted to type out that awesome title) goes off on a psychedelic solo-trip right from the beginning. It's easily the most fun recent Earth record. As mentioned, think Hex but with grumpy vocals and some guitar action.

oh, and I couldn't listen to the vinyl only track yet.

New albums for the month from two of Swedens biggest acts.

The Haunted-Exit Wounds: Awesome! Back to their killer riffs and aggressiveness that made them great to begin with. A true return to form. Out today! Pick it up. Seriously.

Now on the flip side

In Flames- Siren Charms: They continue their downward spiral to irrelevancy. Fuck, this is terrible. This is even worse than the last album which I thought wasn't possible. I'm one of those that actually enjoyed A Sense of Purpose, thought that album did what they were trying to do (become more ballad oriented, catchier) well but this album, this album is shit. Out of 11 tracks i can enjoy... maybe 3. The only "ballad" track that works is Paralyzed, catchy, decent riffs, it works. Everything is gone, also decent. This is out Sept 9th. Skip it.

I just wish Mr. Bungle would have put out at least one more album. Geeze, I miss that band.
Well, at least they left us two of the best records ever. There could go way more wrong with a Bungle reunion than with Faith No More imo. As it is now, Patton needs people to keep him in check, as happened with the last Tomahawk album - things become pretty great with a competent "band" band around him. I'm afraid Mr. Bungle would very much be a Patton solo-affair, and sadly he just can't capture that experimental genius as well as at the turn of the century anymore.

Thanks for the reminder; I only found out yesterday that it was coming out and have been so busy trying to track a suddenly busy fall concert schedule I already forgot about it! Off to Dimple!

Chimaira.

Damn it. Emil left the other day. And everyone else. Back to just Mark.
This used to be one of my favorite bands.

Listened to it earlier while stuck in traffic. Definitely thought it was awesome as hell. Pretty much the album I've wanted from them since One Kill Wonder.

Given how crappy reunion projects turn out, I'm guessing it's best if it doesn't happen, I suppose. Soundgarden already let me down once.

Billy Sheenan is the man.

Poor In Flames. They're getting ripped on hard for this new album. To be fair i really do enjoy Paralyzed and Everything's Gone but man the album is pretty forgettable.

I'm very interested to see the sales number for this one.

Yah, it's an excellent effort.

Just listened to one of the songs, Cutting Teeth. It really is great. All these bands that have these 'comebacks' I typically never like too much or it feels forced. This is genuinely good.

Also, just wanted to talk about something with this song that I feel a lot of metal bands should pay more attention to and something I'm guilty of myself when writing music - don't blow your load on a great riff right away. The main riff in this song is played very openly, no palm muting or anything. Its a great riff on its own, but much of the heaviness comes through the bass and the drum section as its played in most of the song. However, for the climax of the song, at about 3:01 in the vid, they do finally give it a whirl an octave lower with full palm muting action. And its heavy as shit sounding and a great way to really make the song peak. They could have played that riff like that from the beginning and it would have sounded good, but it leaves nowhere to go from there. It would kill the ability to have that climax at the end, which I think leaves you with something to remember.

Sorry for the little rant. Just little things like that in songs that I appreciate.

Even though I love the last 3 albums, it's nice to know they have continued to evolve. That formula would have felt stale by this point if they had stuck with it. Really looking forward to hearing it now.

Welp, the new YOB album, Clearing the Path to Ascend, is out now. I got an email with a link to the high-rez download, thanks to pre-ordering the vinyl. It's, well, I gotta all-cap this, SO FUCKING AMAZING OMFG!!!!. They are my favorite band of all time, and this just cements them further as such. 4 tracks, all full of amazing riffage that NO ONE else can pull off.

I'm sorry, I worship at the altar of YOB, and they never disappoint. Simply fucking amazing.

I would be OK with something like that, although I believe they will be a little cheaper. Even though I love the band I never got into collecting their LPs because I mostly didn't know where to start with all the pressings. I also really dislike picture LPs which is why I didn't bite on those reissues a few years back. This is basically a perfect opportunity to get in there. Those singles are looking ace, too. I would probably be content with these reissues and some of the Japanese releases.

Oh man, I love, love, love the hate the new Pallbearer has been getting on M-A. It ranges from calling it Mumford and Sons metal to the typical hipster and post-rock comments. Doom lite? I'd love it if my friends could get into this.

When something gathers enough praise hate is sure to follow I guess.

I've yet to listen to them despite having them in my collection, might have to now.

maybe now we can get another Levi / Werstler release

nothing instrumental has touched it since the first one came out

Mom's basement metal heads get all pissy when any kind of mainstream attention comes to "their" genre because they get off on the fact that their preferred genre is underground and inaccessible. These people are the worst basically.

Yes, that's the conclusion to draw if people dislike the new Pallbearer. Clearly.

Oops, my eyes just rolled out of my sockets.

So how is the new Nightwish singer? I haven't really listened to her since Anette got kicked.

Guess I have to judge when their next album drops.

Still sucks..Anette was great.

Wow, how come I never heard of these guys. They are great.

The have plenty of professionally recorded live videos with Floor

Edit: Also I think Floor currently is the single best clean singing female vocalist in metal.
