The Metal Thread |OT2| All Riffs, No Gifs

I finally heard the new Sólstafir album. It's...pleasant I guess, if unremarkable. Seems to me they've hit a rut and refined Svartir Sandar into something much less interesting, oh well.

The new Sanctuary and Horrendous more than make up for it though, even if they are miles apart in genres :P

Z2 still isn't on Spotify :(

Didn't realise Spotify had regional restrictions or whatever. (Australia here).

Also Ne Obliviscaris have a world tour happening because of that wild successful crowfunding venture, so wherever you are you can be sure as hell that they're going to be playing near you soon.

I got this weird feeling, like if Opeth and Nickelback merged into one band.

Oh god. Please never put Opeth and Nickelback in the same sentence.

Oh yeah.

Well Opeth is to metal what Nickelback is to rock so it kinda works out

No. This is just foolish.

Opeth has some quality albums. Although saying they're just straight up metal is foolish. Prog metal. As much as that term is cringe worthy because of horrible bands like dream theater.

So I just listened to Dio's An Angel of Missing.

Mind Blown. I can't believe it's him! I'm not into cheesy post-Rock and Roll vocal pop, but this is quite good, if a bit contrived, naturally.

I also listened to the new At The Gates album, not very good though. Maybe I'll enjoy it more down the line, but it doesn't sound promising.

It's not all bad though. I just around to listening to Spawn of Possession's Incurso. Album is amazing so far, and completely insane.

Ne Obliviscaris' new album 'Citadel' is now streaming.

Album of the year.
Was expecting something awesome based on the comments... why do you do this to me GAF xD

I got this weird feeling, like if Opeth and Nickelback merged into one band.
lol, that seems accurate enough.

you're literally the last person on the planet i'd expect to like tech death that has clean vocals and violins in it
Hey, I like Quo Vadis!

...

Anywyay, there was no description in the post, just a link and comments saying it was awesome, so I had no expectations. Same with the Opethelback band a bit later on. Also, I didn't want to dismiss anything, despite claims that I'm a narrow-minded elitist I do give things a fair shot every now and then.

Clearly that was a mistake. Guess I'll look up the bands first from now on. ;)

Get to see Amon Amarth Tuesday, pretty pumped as I haven't really been to a metal show since Lamb of God a year or so ago!

We finally meet Bizarro Murphy!

yeah usually when i post something i stick a genre or band in there so people will know whether or not to click unless it's something totally obvious (electric wizard etc)

Had you really not heard of Ne Obliviscaris? I can't remember when you started posting in MetalGAF, but their first album got more mentions than most other releases when it originally dropped.

I can definitely understand why it isn't for everyone, in the same way that Sunbather album that got so much praise last year definitely wasn't for me. Still, it's nice to have a latecomer in the year content for my AOTY, since AOTY 2015 is coming out in January. The rest of the year in metal will be way downhill from there

Damn, this is awesome news. I remember going through a wide number of their B-sides when I was super into them when I was a sophomore in college. Some of their B-sides were amazing. Either way, it's nice to hear what they were doing before they recorded Superunknown. Hope this isn't too expensive.

Now if only more of my favorite bands would release a B-side collection.

On a Halloween-related note, for those of you who have done corpse paint, what kind of stuff do you use?

I bought some black/white costume makeup at the store for a costume I used last weekend, but it's grease based and while I like that it comes off easily with water, it also runs with sweat and smears easily.

!!!

!!!!!

I finally got around to checking out Gotham, and for all of the show's problems it has the most badass take on young Bruce I have ever seen

Check this shit out

Yep... that's Bruce coping with his grief by drawing disturbing imagery while listening to motherfucking death metal

Further research has revealed the name of the band is Spit, and the name of the song is Deliverance

There's another scene in the same episode where Bruce intentionally burns his hand to "test his limits", but it's also hinted at that he may be going down some sort of self-abuse path. Despite these behaviors, he isn't an annoying mopey emo fuck - he's a charming little bastard that already has an incredibly strong sense of justice about him and is indulging in these dark behaviors as a healthier alternative to something that is cripplingly self-destructive. I seriously hope the show continues to explore this element of the character, because my avatar has never been happier

I like Batman Begins better than The Dark Knight.

Also, fuck Batman and Robin.

Anyway, that's cool I guess. I would like to see more Metal heads on TV, and ones that don't cast us in a negative light.

i couldn't get into this show after the first ep but as gateway drug melodeath/metalcore bands go this isn't bad
The first episode is exceptionally rough. I'm four episodes in now, and it's definitely improving - but if you aren't a huge Batman fan you're probably safe staying away for now

But yeah, that's the other thing - the producers didn't decide to go with some bullshit like five finger death punch or korn or whatever the fuck is on mainstream "metal" stations these days... they chose an obscure Norwegian death metal band, which is fucking awesome on principle alone, even if the band itself isn't anything spectacular

STATIC-X Frontman WAYNE STATIC Dead At 48

MG_7748.jpg

Singer/guitarist Wayne Static (born Wayne Richard Wells) of the industrial metal band STATIC-X has passed away at the age of 48. The news was confirmed by Wayne's publicists at FiXT Publicity.

No further details are currently available, but some of Wayne's associates have indicated that the death may have been the result of a drug overdose.

Although I thought everything they put out after their debut was shit, it's still depressing to hear. "Wisconsin Death Trip" was a great album and one of my favourites to listen to when I was growing up.
