Woooooo, that Sanctuary album cover is mighty sexy. Here's hoping it's awesome.
I caught anthrax the first time they reunited with Joey and Spitz in like 2004 at the chicago HOB. It was supposed to be a one off but of course they reunited in 2005 proper. Awesome greatest hits set list. Epic war dance too.
I'll say that Bring The Noise is the only successful Rap Metal hybrid I've ever heard (the only other thing would probably be No Sleep 'Till Brooklyn). Probably because you have Public Enemy on the song. PE are legends.
Is Bolt Thrower dead or have there been any sound from them at all lately?
I'd argue there's better/equal stuff on the Judgment Night soundtrack.
You like Alestorm, so I wouldn't be surprised... >_>I'll check out AtL with an open mind tomorrow, then. I'm expecting terrible results.
I beg to differ.Booze is an acquired taste, but sobriety is vastly overrated - it's worth the effort of learning to love the burn of dirty poison going through your body!
Both. I don't have that additional analog stick so it was almost unplayable. It's probably okay with it, but handhelds start hurting my hands if I play them for prolonged periods of time. Even that plastic support thingy my boyfriend got for his 3DS didn't stop my hands from aching horribly. Plus having my necked leaning in to look at that tiny screen... ugh. No thanks. I still play my PSP on the plane but that's about it.Wait, you can't stand handhelds in general, or specifically MH3U on 3DS? Vanilla controls for that game are awful, but when you add that frankenstick into the mix? Smoother than Santana's velvety whore!
Serious about not remembering a single thing about Grave Digger. The other band gives me PTSD-lite symptoms, so fuck 'em!
new machine head album is called MACHINE HEAD - BLOODSTONE & DIAMONDS

2. Killers & Kings
3. Ghosts Will Haunt My Bones
4. Night Of Long Knives
5. Sail Into The Black
6. Eyes Of The Dead
7. Beneath The Silt

9. Damage Inside
10. Game Over

Well son of a bitch
Awful album art,albumawesome
From what you blokes have been saying, those are the only two essential Anthrax albums, right? I don't have much interest in continuing to explore their discography if it's going to be spotty, but at least I am filling in that glaring gap in my metal knowledge.
Glad you liked it.Well son of a bitch

Awful album art, album
I realized the reason I didn't like the album originally is because of the vocals - they sometimes sound very thin and occasionally wispy, in the same vein as this live performance from our favorite Lump Bizquick sounds in this performance.
Unpalatable vocals used to be a huge turn off for me - and then I got into black metal, so that clearly doesn't bother me anymore. I even have grown to love Vio-Lence's singer!
Anyway, I'm crying for those mothafriggin' Indians right now because it took me too long to discover this album. I also checked out Spreading the Disease, and while nothing on that album is as good as the Queensryche song of the same name, it's still solid. I don't have much interest in continuing to explore their discography if it's going to be spotty, but at least I am filling in that glaring gap in my metal knowledge. Also, AtL and StD (<-- lol) are nowhere near Testament's The Legacy and The New Order, so I still think they should have been in the big four. Not that it matters, because what the fuck is the significance of having been a part of "the big four" now anyway? Nothing -- and as far as I can tell, Testament is currently more popular/successful than Anthrax, so all is right with the world.
Desecration of the Holy Kingdom = pillar of USBM.
Glad you liked it.Yeah the vocals are an acquired taste. Belladona kinda sounds like a punk vocalist, only, you know, talented. >_>
I'd say State of Euphoria and Persistence of Time are pretty excellent, but I never bothered with the rest.
Ironically, my first Anthrax song was Got the Time, which is a cover (and I didn't know about it of course... I was like 10 years old), but I found it strangely charming.
they could have left with Desecration, and it would have been fine. They could have produced it well, too, even better! I still love that LP, though, even if it's just a big muffled buzzsaw recording.
if we're gonna start talking about blackened death metal, let me get these off my chest.
Malthusian - MMXIII
Irkallian Oracle - Grave Ekstasis
Antediluvian - Through the Cervix of Hawaah
Impetuous Ritual - Relentless Execution of Ceremonial Excrescence
Mitochondrion - Parasignosis
Grave Miasma - Odori Sepulcrorum
this is my favorite kind of death metal right now.
Great bands, my favorites are Antediluvian and Mitochondrion. But yeah, the bands in this style practice and take to the next level what Incantation and Portal have established; the extremely dark, overwhelming and cavernous atmospheres. It does seem to be an emergence of a new style in which that atmosphere is the goal rather than the individual riffs and song structure. An evolution of death metal even further into chaos and obscurity. I myself prefer blackened death more akin to Blasphemy, Revenge, Conqueror, Order From Chaos, Axis of Advance, Angelcorpse, etc... but this stuff is really cool too. I especially like the emphasis on mysticism in the imagery.

all the J. Read and Helmkamp projects are among my favorites, with Order from Chaos being at the very top. Actually, if you guys weren't aware yet, THIS will be the compilation of all compilations to be released this year surely.
Axis of Advance LPs
oh most definitely, you can't leave out the guys that started it all. I think the Angelcorpse is the only band from those listed for whom I don't own any LPs (because they average like 50 bucks each haha). I actually heard recently that Osmose is going to reissue everything they did on vinyl, so I will jump at that opportunity for sure.

I agree about the atmosphere being huge with the new wave of black/death, but I don't think it's necessarily at the expense of riffs. It's just that because of the way they flesh out their songs, everything just seems a bit doomier, noisier, more progressive, much moreso than any of the original bands sought to do themselves definitely.
and awww shiet, we're talking about Axis now, gonna take some pictures real quick.
fucking hail Helmkamp.
Speaking of Axis of Advance, Strike is fucking monumental. My favorite out of all the "chaoti-war/death/black metal" style akin to Revenge, Conqueror, Sacramentary Abolishment, etc.
Fuck man, kvlt as fuck. I have all of those on CD's. I envy your AoA//J. Read/Helmkamp collection.
Oh, nice man, good taste. As for the other bands... I did not mean to imply that the riffs suck or anything like that, but rather I meant that the atmosphere is the standout feature among them. I agree that it is the songwriting, it is just so unorthodox in comparison to the waves of death metal before them that the emphasis is placed upon the overall atmosphere of the sound rather than the solid instrumentation and song structure. Some person described it as "post-death metal"... and as ridiculous as that sounds, it is sort of right. Would not want that to become a real label, though. Haha.
I am jealous of those Axis LPs. Fuuuuark. I only have them on CD.![]()
Makes me realize I have no album on Vinyl.
Anyone heard of Enshine? I guess it is the continuation of Slumber.
I got linked to them trying to find an update on Rapture.
What're the best Firewind albums?
