This looks so cool....

Vektor is from where I went to college.....

FUCK THE ARIZONA WILDCATS.

It is imperative that if the FF Demanufacture tour is happening anywhere remotely close to you that you go. Trust me on this.

That is all.

Making a trip to St Louis in a couple weeks to see em. I take it you saw them and it was good? Was a little leary about the quality of the vocals, but I like Demanufacture and their new album and I'm going with a coworker whose a big fan so I figure why not go?

Yup, Vektor is most definitely the business. Tetrastructural Minds is just such a damn happy and joyous song, it has such a playful character to it, that you can't help but smile.

The whole Desaster album is streamable on Soundcloud. And it's another great album from these personal favourites of mine. I was fortunate enough to see them live once with the original singer, at Wacken in 2001.

Yeah, as someone who listens to like...5 thrash bands, Vektor is the realness and one of the ones I do listen to. Only thrash band I like more is Coroner.

Slice the Cake's new album is pretty goddam fire so I've been listening to it a couple times, even though I'm currently at work and listening to some old Be'lakor for no reason, just felt like it.

As far as other stuff, I've also been listening to Cyborg Octopus - Data Minefield and some other released tracks I like it but need to spin it when it comes out a few times to really feel it. They're prog metal that delve into a lot of other weird genres, which I realize is steadly becoming not all that rare anymore, but...the way they do it is interesting because it almost sounds disjointed which would make you think it doesn't fit but it seems to flow spastically and well for some reason. I'll have to listen more to really solidify my enjoyment of it. I like genre swapping and don't often take my metal straight so bands like this are normally right up my alley.

Gotta give new Tombs a listen too.

Yeah, saw Sunn and Boris tour and I'm pretty sure that at least 5 people shit their pants at that show.

Picked up last year's Hegemon release "The Hierarch" and I'm digging it quite a bit. I'll listen to it tomorrow at work and see how I feel about it.

Listened to the new Deftones as well, even though I'm sure there'll be arguments about it's metalness. Some good shit.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT

I absolutely ADORE power quest. Hell, I literally just bought neverworld (which I should have done ages ago).
A completely underappreciated band.

EDIT: The vocalist is from a band called Dendera. Does anyone have any experience with them?

Ihsahn's new album is pretty good. hard for me to really give an honest opinion though because I have been listening to extreme shit pretty exclusively for a few months so my brain is not really into it right now. In good news I picked up Watain, Conan, and Behemoth shirts that are rad \m/

Finally got the new Moonsorrow in my hands. I've noticed that including patches is more of a thing these days, pretty cool.

no disrespect to either of those bands, but how can you guys be so limited? Like, wow.

I accept the criticism. I don't know what it is, it takes a really particular sound to catch my interest.

I don't like death at all.

The sound just doesn't appeal to me.

But on the same token, power metal definitely seems to have fewer listeners in this thread than what is fully representative of the size of the genre.

I like the patch idea. Give something a little extra to people who buy physical over just streaming. I find myself buying CDs at shows to support a band and find myself just tossing it to the side and streaming it anyway. Feels wasteful.

I like the Anthrax playing cards with the digital download code for their new album. Too bad I didn't care for the album itself.

Jumalten Aika is Moonsorrow after another level up. Only on the first listen through and it's pretty incredible.

Next album I'm hyped for is the new Mistur, which should be out at the end of the month. It feels like it's been forever since Attende, and I still listen to it as much as any other album. Anyone who dug Windir but hasn't checked out Mistur needs to get on that.

For sure. I also like when albums have the hardcover book type packaging as well.

Today has been a total shit storm of suck but this new Desaster is pretty bad ass. Jammed it through a few times. I've been looking for something fucking angry like old Slayer and this is doing a good job of filling that void. Not saying this sounds like Slayer by any means, it just has that angry as fuck feel.

some more 2016 black metal I'd like to recommend.

Death Fortress (NJ) - Deathless March of the Unyielding

really great follow up to Among the Ranks of the Unconquerable. A traditional heaviness and temperament. Excellent, punchy production. BC release is name your price. Give them a Bacon McDouble.

Zhrine (ISL) - Unortheta

Icelandic black metal more on the unconventional side. Some unsettling mellow passages to balance out the chaos. RIYL bands that take from DsO.

Haxen (RI) - Haxen

fans of riffy, raw black metal stand up. One of the best albums I've heard in old school USBM fashion.

Ustalost (NY) - The Spoor of Vipers

side project of Will (guitar/vox) from Yellow Eyes. This album came out of nowhere and floored me. Menacing, mid-paced, mesmerizing. Classic production and atmosphere. Certainly one of the most grounded and traditional black metal albums you will ever hear out of New York. Try the track "V" to immediately hear what this album is about.

Uada (OR) - Devoid of Light

this is some excellent music. Riffs are on point. Abound with great melodies/leads.

^ I'll have to give those a listen.

This one-man band from Finland, who just released their new EP through Terratur Possessions, is well worth a listen as well.

What an amazing post. Pretty much digging all of these. Uada, Ustalost, and Zhrine especially. What is it with Iceland lately? They are putting something in the water to churn out incredible black metal releases it seems like.

I actually opened the thread with the intention of posting another Icelandic black metal band.

Naðra - Allir vegir til glötunar

Icy riffs that reminds me a bit of early Krallice at times. Love it.

nice to see this band mentioned. One of my favorites of the current crop of Finnish black metal. Relics of Inner War is also fantastic material.

Iceland has definitely become a solid, remarkably productive scene. I actually mentioned the Naðra a few pages back but it deserves another mention anyhow. Great stuff.

Flotsam and Jetsam - Iron Maiden

New Flotsam and Jetsam track, possibly their heaviest shit they've dropped in a while. I normally disdain lyrics that rhyme in succession too much like this one, particularly lyrics rhyming hell in them since it is usually always generic and first grade drivel, but this song kicks ass. heavy Iron Maiden influence, almost too much, and not just the song title.

The Trooper and Number of the Beast smashed into thrash...love it! Honestly this is the first thing Flotsam and Jetsam has done I've liked. Tried them out years ago and did not care for their style at all. Too...weird.

Try out "No Place for Disgrace" again, it is up there with Forbidden "Twisted Into Form" for best melodic thrash offering, Misguided Fortune is an outstanding song. They play so well live as well, really professional and on point.

I did. Was one of the best concert experiences of my life; did the VIP package, met them, pictures, a million things signed, long chats, amazing. And they sounded fantastic. Burt struggled a tad on some of the clean stuff but it didn't detract; overall he was great. Dino crushed, Tony was tight, and Mike may be a better drummer than Raymond. An incredible show; they played 18 songs. Everything you'd want to hear, and even a pretty shocking choice. You will love it!

That UADA song was fucking rad. Thanks for the share.

Will chip away at the rest of them, though at least one had that "oh these vox are mixed for shit because black metal!" bit which I dislike.

But that UADA song. Goddamn!

you're probably referring to the Haxen, which for sure is a rough production. I really love that album though, it's full of great riffs/songs and it takes a full listen to really appreciate it. That being said, it's still an album meant for fans of crude, punishing black metal.

I figured most people, even non-black metal heads could get something out of the Uada. It's relatively accessible, produced with a bit of polish, and it's easy to digest clocking in just over 30 minutes. I predict it will end up on a lot of lists at the year's end.

You are correct. I clicked on the spooky forest one first :P

Black metal is the one subgenre of metal I've had problems getting into. That song you linked though tickled my fancy. So I guess it's maybe UADA and Dissection now.

I plan on checkin' out those other tunes though too.

Listening on Ihsahn's Arktis. now on Spoitfy and wow!
I have a feeling this album is going to clean up come award season. In every genre :P Like seriously - he goes through pop, edm, blues, jazz, progg while still maintaining that black metal aura. And it works.

Picked up the last 3 on your list here. Haxen in particular is great. Thanks for the posts!

Went on a little bit of an iTunes binge today. Bought the first two Vektor albums, preordered the third, grabbed new Cult of Luna and also King Goat's Conduit which is a steal at only $4.95.
