metal is a very broad genre. in theory, metalcore is metal with hardcore influence.

EDIT: DEP, BTBAM, and PTH are all progressive metal IMO.

All three of those bands have actual talent something not required in modern metalcore. Although DEP does not appeal to my tastes at all.

I don't follow KSE since every album got worse and worse after their premier due to losing their vocalist but I heard he's back. Is that true?

Because this thread quickly devolved from Metalcore to Shitcore in a hurry. Once Suicide Silence and Bring Me The Horizon were brought into the fold it went full retard. It felt like I was at the Warped Tour trying to hit on 14 year old girls with excessive mascara and daddy issues.

Suicide silence is deathcore bra. And they are pretty legit.

BMTH are sellouts nowadays.

This thread is pointless because genres are so blurred.

Nope, Jesse Leach is the current singer for the hardcore metal band The Empire Shall Fall.

I assure you I've been following Suicide Silence longer than anyone in this thread. I am well aware of their genre and style. Have you ever actually been to one of their concerts? It felt like I walked into the god damned Chuck-E-Cheese there were so many kids there and my ass is only 25.

Anyways I'll actually contribute a tad. Like you said, genres are blurred so these are not exactly true metalcore.

Parkway Drive is good but I really didn't like their new album.

Really like Alexisonfire, As I Lay Dying, A Day to Remember, August Burns Red..

Last time I saw Suicide Silence the venue was 19+ iirc. :lol And the time before that, I was one of the "many kids" lol.

And Conducting from the Grave is great, "A Never Ending Search for Closure" is a sick song.

Alexisonfire and ADTR are shitXemoXcore. AILD and ABR are good though.

Between the Buried and Me is metalcore? I'd have thought they were prog, but if they're metalcore they're the only band of the genre that I really love. Killswitch Engage is alright too, their older stuff mainly. The Black Dahlia Murder is also pretty good, if they count.

Their self-titled debut was great, but Alive or Just Breathing was the true classic.

Howard Jones just kind of ruined the band somehow. Not a bad singer, necessarily, but they just didn't seem to mesh as well as Jesse did in terms of the overall sound of the band.

To the Sons of Man - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Smt6NcV9OM From 1:00 to the end of the song is so amazing. Jesse's screams at the end were so spine-tingling, and Howard just cant get close to that.

Also, I haven't seen All That Remains mentioned yet. They're a little 'polished' these days, but they are great songwriters and musicians.

This Calling - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HurcA3NFKcg

Six - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0pYWGjECLE

Badass songs right there.

Protest the Hero are incredible. Can we call them progressive metalcore instead of mathcore, because that label is just silly. The number of times I've listened to Kezia in the last year... damn.

I think I listen to more deathcore at the moment, but I've really not bothered to decide which bands go into that category yet. Of those mentioned I listen to the following, and I'm still exploring most of them (then Regina Spektor got in the way ^_^)

Atreyu
Attack Attack!
All That Remains
Killswitch Engage
Parkway Drive
Shadows Fall
Converge

I think I need to listen to Between the Buried and Me, and Dillinger Escape Plan next. I've not given Converge much attention so far either.

I like both parkway drive and carnifex

I think Amarna Reign is on tour with rose funeral and texas in july. Check them out too, you'll probably like em. Let me know what you think.

just listened to a couple of their songs. overall, i like 'em. but, i don't care for the clean vocals. still, pretty good. thanks for telling me about them!

New BMTH song is infinitely better than the shit they put out before it. imo of course.

Probably going to pick up The Devil Wears Prada EP this week.

So I just discovered that there's a new Ion Dissonance album out tomorrow. Even though I don't listen to much math-metal-core (however you wanna categorize it) anymore, I gave some of it a listen, and this is DEFINITELY the best stuff they've done since their first album.

One of the new songs: "You People are Messed Up"

As I Lay Dying's "Shadows Are Security" and Unearth's "The Oncoming Storm" are still two albums that I will throw in my car cd player, turn up to a rediculous level, and rock out on the way to work.
Pre-"Lead Sails..."Atreyu, As I Lay Dying, Darkest Hour, Shadows Fall, and All That Remains were all bands I was digging on when they hit the scene and I am kinda glad that scene has died down in popularity. People trashing a genre isn't going to stop me from listening to it if I like it though.

I'll listen to damn near anything and I like most music, but metalcore has remained one of my favorite genres.

BMTH are not sellouts, they just changed there screaming style. They are still a very good metalcore band.

Miss May I- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPVbtM9-3Jo

The Devil Wears Prada- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lfODpMH7aQ

I Killed The Prom Queen-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyMx_9lSD8g

Parkway Drive-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZnVAOepD6U

I think they always were, but there was still something I kinda liked about 'em - their new stuff sucks though. The Cut Up album was imo a bit of a fail, and their new song sounds lame, but maybe it'll grow on me.

New Parkway Drive is probably the most disappointing album I've ever heard, although it still has one or two good bits.

Not metalcore but my favourite band right now has to be TRC, love it. May appeal to some on here! If anyone knows any similar bands please hook me up.

I find this amusing as all you have to add is Trivium and you've got all my favorite bands I'm currently listening to.

My three favorite metalcore bands ever:

7 Angels 7 Plagues
Reflux
Misery Signals

I don't consider Converge, Botch or DEP metalcore. In my eyes, Converge & Botch = Hardcore, DEP = mathcore. BTBAM's first and second albums were metalcore, after that they became more and more progressive. And I have no idea why Alexis is being mentioned in a metalcore thread.
