The Milo Molyneux Thread of SHIT! SciFi Just Got Real

I personally would like them to create me a nice Asian girl for me to "talk" to!

that would make mad monies and you know it

You guys realize the usual group of analysts that mine GAF for reactions and tally the statistics are gonna pass on to Peter M that everyone is calling it a pedophile game, the poor guy might just give up and lose faith in humanity.

Why would it be Molyneux's problem that the demographic this program clearly isn't meant for can't look at a child without thinking of sex?

Milo lets talk about your mother
Can you remember your mother's name or what she looks like? Or how about where you were born? Don't you have any happy childhood memories? Do you even know who you are?

You're in a desert, walking along in the sand, when all of a sudden you look down...
It doesn't make any difference what desert, it's completely hypothetical.
Maybe you're fed up. Maybe you want to be by yourself. Who knows? You look down and see a tortoise, Milo. It's crawling toward you...
You know what a turtle is?
Same thing.
You reach down and you flip the tortoise over on its back, Milo.
The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over, but it can't. Not without your help. But you're not helping.
Why is that, Milo?

Perfect example of the problem with software like this.

Children like to interact with other children, moms might like this, too. We know where this would go if they made the character a female (of legal age). Gamers might consider interacting with a grown man as "gay". And Pets are done by the competitor(s).

Should have been a adult female damnit! Or at least something more gender neutral and for all ages (a pet of some sorts).

Can we get some pictures/footage of Claire playing with Milo.
I liked the part when she was feeling Milo, and then I'm pretty sure Milo started talking about her fish after she got wet...
At least that's how I remember it anyway.

This is a tech demo, we'll never get it, at least in any form resembling what it is now. Too much potential for virtual child molestation.

It's thread over because you were spot on. All the hyperbole on Fable 2's dog and what do you get, a poor a.i companion re-skinned as a dog. Haunting Ground (PS2) had a more realistic canine friend with better a.i.

Molyneux offends my sensibilities. This is just a AI chat program with a 3D avatar. I don't mind that it's just that, but the hyperbolic way he talks about this as if it's some grand revolutionary event in the world of AI programming just makes him an ignorant prick.

No, not at all! This comes across as a wonderful fantasy. Scotch taping up sketches of the boy behind Molyneux's head doesn't mean that he suddenly is able to make his vision actually work.

I'd be surprised if they could pull off a Seaman-styled game personally. Lionhead as a studio has been grossly overrated this generation. :(

yeaa......
i will NOT get fooled by molyneux's "AI" hyperbole again
been fooled way too many times before

What? It's not like the AI has a complete mind of its own :lol

I disagree with AA on a ton of things, but this most assuredly is not one of them. Milo, or any advanced AI of the type implied today, is not going to be brought to you by Peter Molyneux.

I'm a big fan of Molyneux, the way he talks about gaming and what he looks for in the future, but this isn't the future of gaming. A game is something that takes me out of reality, what the hell is the point of me playing in a virtual reality?

What he showed is a tech demo for what A.I would be able to do if the necessary time was put into it, there isn't a game here, and if Molyneux has been pissing away Lionhead money on this instead of working on games that could have a real impact on gamers then it's a damn shame for the industry.

Video games are supposed to be fun, not an academic exercise.

Creepy and super scripted.
A.I isn't that advanced yet. I'd like to be proven wrong though

Peter Molyneux sure loves his hyperbole and he never ever manages to deliver.

Yep cleaver programing use on a already chosen line of words, not like you can actually make a intelligent conversation with it,but the tech is moving some where at least.

um, i think what molyneux has been doing is experimenting with how the player interacts with characters with in his game. I think Milo is this ultimate expression of those ideas. Like in Black and White the idea you interact with your avatar, and the avatar eventually expresses apart of what you teach it. Or in fable how the entire game world interacts with your hero and how it engages the player through emotes and dialog. I see Milo as a way for a game/piece of software to engage the player through something natural like speech.

Well it looks impressive, absolutely but I'm going to wait until I see it outside a highly scripted and controlled environment before I draw any conclusions. getting this to work as well as it does in the video in the "real world" is a whole different ball game. Its not as if Molyneux hasn't promised stuff he couldn't deliver before.

I showed my sister it and she loved it (she bought Nintendogs and buys Tamagochis and stuff like that), but who knows if she'll get it when they announce the price...

User: "We're being watched by millions of people!"
AI: [Doesn't know what that means, just repeat the phrase] "Millions of people..."

User: "How are you?"
AI: [verbalize preset emotion state] "I'm good, how are you?"

As much as I'd love for this to work, it's going to run into problems, just like every other chat client. Try Eliza... it's not like Molyneux has suddenly solved the problem that has been facing AI people for so many years. He just has animations running on top of the responses as well as some minigames.

The scripted stuff will probably work best. But if he asks you for a fish and you draw a orange penis, you think he's going to tell the difference? Of course not. "Orange... wow! Thanks a lot for this."

Same with the Bethesda games. You act like it's going to be any different from the preset voice commands? They still have to have recorded voice... or do you think Molyneux has completely solved the robotic voice intonation problem too?

We don't know shit about it and you are calling Molyneaux an ignorant prick?

Maybe he is experimenting with AI on a different level and that can be used on future games.

But yes, that was kind of creepy. I rather have a talking cat. Cats are awesome.

I honestly could never bring myself to talk to a computer screen like I do to a real person. I know it's not real, I know it's all canned responses, I know it's a creation of programming. I got douche chills when that lady was talking to the screen. So weird.

Shame those certain games were banned in Japan. This would add real depth to them.
You've probably already been replied to, but no, they weren't. The TV station that reported that just made it up.

I know. Pathetic, isn't it? :lol

I realize it might seem too soon to decry it as bullshit since we don't know anything about it, but looking at Molyneux's pedigree with AI and the insane challenge he claims to have bested, the chance of him not being hyperbolic and completely misrepresenting what he's selling is close to nil.
