The most 90s video games

It's kinda terrifying how just about EVERYTHING on the Genesis and Saturn seems like a product of its time now.

Makes me feel old as shit. I remember when Sega was the ultra-cool bad boy of the game industry.

The most 90's game must have been Toe Jam and Earl... could you really release that nowadays without it being labelled as the ultimate in cheese!!

Reminds me of photos like this -

HEY.

You will not bad mouth this awesome man.

A true legend of his time.

So crediting someone with sireing not one, but TWO of the most well shorn gaming experts of all time is bad mouthing? Oh, what times we live in. In going back to rocking some Kong while repeating "don't give up, you can do it if you really want" in my head.

Hit arcades in '99. I've always liked the original box art, reminds me of the illustrations you'd see on YA paperback novels.

This is definitely some of the best box art ever right here.

Now everything is a CG render.. looks bad. Miss this kind of thing.. yes, even when Fabio is doing his best Conan impression.

Fatal Fury gives me heavy 90's nostalgia. Just look at these giant sprites and character designs

Duck King is a product of the 90's

Look at Raiden. Obviously based of of 90's wrestling legend Big Van Vader

I know I miss the 90 because i lived with my parents and we were all young and even with all the school hurdles i felt safe in a level I will never feel again

However I think there's something very special in these 90 games, aside from nostalgia.

Oh man, Prop Cycle. Used to play that endlessly at Game works in Seattle. My grandparents used to own a chalet in Leavenworth, a mock-bavarian village in central Washington. There used to be a little family fun center there called Icicle Junction, and when we'd go up there in the Summer I'd spend hours in the arcade playing Prop Cycle. They had a really kick-ass mid 90's arcade, with Time Crisis, Marvel Super Heroes, and the Japanese version of Darkstalkers 3.

I'd kill to own a working Prop Cycle cabinet though.

Yeah, Prop Cycle is one of those games that could have only come out in a short slice of time in the 90's - when arcades with custom hardware/cabinets were still viable, when 3D technology was up to par, and when such a whimsical and experimental concept wasn't liable to get its eyes rolled at by a jaded and cynical gaming populace.
