The most polished games you've played

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty stands out to me. Haven't played a lot of Blizzard games. But it really was above the many Nintendo, Valve and other games I've played.

Any Nintendo game, although MK8 falls short due to irritating micro stutter.

I agree with Ninja Gaiden Black.

Also FEZ on PS4 which is perfection.

Rayman Legends is another that comes to mind recently.

When I think polish, I think of Resident Evil 4. A game so well made, it makes everything else look bad. I'm not surprised that many have tried and failed to replicate this game's success. The Devil May Cry games also exhibit a level of high polish in their design.

I can't take anyone seriously in this thread that says any game from Rockstar. I don't think I've played any one of their games that is 'polished'. GTAV, Red Dead, even Max Payne 3, are great games but not the most polished...

This thread has shown me that barely anyone knows what polish is when describing a game as a package.

Because mentioning Rockstar and Naughty Dog games? That's just....good god. Any game where a death caused by forces outside your control is automatically disqualified.

Polish runs as deep as something like the menus of the game being smooth and snappy. Again, this counts out Rockstar and Naughty Dog again.

Nintendo just shines in all these areas.

How could you think GTAV is polished when it was released without MP? If that doesn't scream rushed out the door, I don't know what does.

Not saying it isn't an incredible game

um.....nintendo.....games? Sorry for not having a less derivative answer haha

I feel that way too.

Their devs know their stuff, what to say more, haha.

There are a few fuck-ups, though, but it's a minority compared to the rest of the industry.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 may take the crown for me, lest I'm forgetting something big.

I came here to post exactly this. I think SMG2 is the best game I've played from an objective standpoint. I mean, I've put more hours into other games, but I can't think of a game that's more flawless.

For what it lacked in content, although a twenty hour campaign with collectibles that you are encouraged to play twice shouldn't be laughed at, Wolfenstein: The New Order was ridiculously well polished. Everything in the game was just incredibly well done to the last detail.
except of course that end boss.

both battles were awful

my vote:metroid prime.

Something by Nintendo probably. Their games are bug free, controls are tight, consistent art design and music throughout. The types of games they make, they do better than anyone else and they don't contain any obvious flaws. That being said, I am NOT a fan of the vast majority of their games. I find them to be well made, but they don't personally appeal to me.

Intelligent Systems is king.

I don't know of any Nintendo games that could be considered "buggy". Their may be a few glitches that you have to intentionally try to get, but that is it.

Games like Metal Gear Solid 3 and God of War looked well polished for their time. Most recently, The Last of Us set the bar for how games should be experienced.

Ninja Gaiden Black.

Yup, great answer. EVERYTHING had care and attention lavished on it. Even the menus, the fonts, the animations, the gameplay, music. Sigma ran on a more powerful machine but brought in elements that make the game WORSE than Black. Like loading when you collect items or open chests.

Super Mario 3D World is also created with care and attention. As people have said, no rough shortcuts, every part of the game has had maximum attention given to it.

GTA V by far. GTA Online is rather buggy, but offline it's utterly flawless. The only game I've never experienced a bug or glitch in, which is incredible considering the size of it. Nothing else is even close in polishedness.

Been playing Kirby Triple Deluxe lately.

That game is the definition of polished. Damn. So good.

Yeap , i vote for GTA5 too ...

Considering the scale and the time i've spent on this game it's trully one of teh most polished game i've played in the last 5 years
(not counting the online )
You can't just pick and choose what you want to fit your opinion lol. Glad you like the game, it's not at all polished though, and I don't expect any open world game to be.

Portal and Portal 2 aren't the most complex or lengthy games but they accomplish what they set out to do with almost perfect pace, direction, and narration. On the other end of the spectrum, I bought Skyrim early this year and it's still a buggy piece years later. Not blind to their stark design differences, but seriously, Bethesda's shit feels straight up unfinished at times.

GTA5 only became buggy when they started patching it (v1.01+)
GTA5 as a stand alone package from my disk and no patch i had no problem and i've finished this game 3 times starting from scratch and still having fun with it.
Open world games have bugs but all the games have bugs.GTA5 is the most polished open world game i've ever played when i factor the density of things to do.

That's my opinion and i'll defend it.

The fact that the game is still patched to add things to the online parts means nothing to me.

World of Warcraft, most likely.

Don't hate.

As polished as WoW was/is as an MMO, it is far from a polished experience. Being a polished MMO is like being the tallest midget. The whole genre is designed to be an unfinished work in progress for its entire life.

And let's be clear about which phase of the game we are evaluating. Vanilla up to, but not including Cataclysm - included many broken quest and leveling experiences. While Cataclysm fixed much of that, there are other areas which become unpolished as systems are abandoned or forgotten over time. Like First Aid.....why does it exist? At one time it was semi-useful but not these days. That is just one of many examples.

So, no, not hating, but let's be honest WoW is far from a polished game. Most polished game in its genre? Sure, but that isn't saying much.

I feel like i may get crap for this, but i really felt like Halo 4 was supremely polished. I mean just look at it...

Several aspects of that game almost come off as an infatuation in how detailed the are, and I don't mean that in a bad way, just that it's all very apparent, like a grandiose realized vision of how a fan sees the game.

Any Nintendo game, especially the Mario serie.

I'm always amazed to see how much care there is in every single detail.

I agree with the Nintendo/Blizzard trend in this thread. They are beacon examples of polish.
They miss release dates like crazy and I love them for it.

Probably Max Payne 3.

Never touched MP, so not sure about that, but the SP was just great. Game was super optimised as well and ran great.

How is GTA V polished
I see bugs going on all the time missions not working random things happening.

Pretty hard to make an openwolrd randomness game the most polished game.

StarCraft 2.
