I thought the idea was that it was something that was in the works for a while, but got sped up once the reaper invasion was a thing they learned about.

Likely the plan all along. N7 day for the cinematic reveal coupled with the Game Informer cover story who will be sustaining the possible hype and interest for the whole month leading to the gameplay trailer on December 1st. lol

anyone know if I subscribe as an EA Access member and download the Mass Effect Trilogy now, will I still be able to buy the digital copies for 2/3 if they become available to "own" it? I know with PlayStation Plus, the free games you download are ineligible to be purchased until your Plus subscription is expired, which kind of sucks if there is a nice sale going on, and you want to get it for that price to have without being restricted to a membership for later on.
For some, it's about 1) setting the default means that's what people will play the most, 2) being a representative icon of the game, 3) showing to everyone that it doesn't have to constantly be a brooding white dude at the front and center of every (AAA) video game.
Bioware has especially attempted to be more progressive than other AAA devs within their games and EA has recently been more open as well in its marketing (Catalyst, FIFA 17, and BF1), so it's disappointing to see them going back to the boring status quo that they already did for 3 whole games in ME1-3.
right... except if it's an equality thing surely this time it's male sheps turn in the spotlight? ME3's cover was femshep

We'd only explored something like 0.1% of this galaxy... so for no reason we're trying to get to another one....I just want context on the exodus: surely there is a threat (like the Reapers).
I'm down with exploration, but usually when you're sending and ARK, it's usually to escape a storm one would think.
They had a few different versions of femshep for the reversible cover that were voted on.

Pretty crazy EA is still insisting that this game is coming out in the Spring. It's had delay written all over it for a while, I'll be impressed if they can get it done on time.
Sheploo was the front and center of marketing as well as the default option when starting a new game. FemShep was thrown a bone and got that voting thing and was still second-tier (her trailers always came afterwards) and the in-game model was clearly rushed, as well as the much of the animation skeleton being straight lifted from MaleShep's model.
They're rolling with Bethesda's Fallout 4 "sudden news blitz near the end" style. It's tracking well. If delayed (which I agree will happen) it won't get delayed past June or so.
Thing is that Bethesda actually planned and executed that plan flawlessly. BioWare has been dragging this, by now half-dead, "More info coming in X!" scheme around for years now.

Signed up like whoa. Also it's kinda funny that in setting up my profile they had me look up how much time I spent on ME3 MP. I didn't realize I burned quite that much time on it and I know I got out fairly early and a lot of people spent a LOT more time than I did. Something like 32 hours logged, and I stopped playing like a month after release.

Good lord that survey/application for the beta was long.
I checked Origin and can't find Citadel DLC or any DLC. This is driving me crazy.
If BioWare Social still exists then those DLC's will be there. Maybe also in-game store.
Edit: Overall it's huge mess
1. You buy the Bioware points on the store
2. In your Game Catalogue -> ME3 game icon > Details, you can then buy the different DLC
You need to have ME2 and ME3 on Origin to be able to see their DLC's (go to your Origin library --> click ME2/ME3 icon --> click "additional content" to see the available DLC). Otherwise you'll have to go to the Bioware Social Network and get the DLC's from there.

Yeah, only 8 days. We are a bit impatient. However, I kinda expected n7 day to start it with a bang. Doesn't quite have me excited just yet.
Edit: looks like we need to get a copy of game informer for the real deets.

EA are bunch of idiots, that's why.
They torpedoed Titanfall with it's release date, which in turn negates BF1's great sales and their reveal of the highly anticipated Star Wars games was off camera footage at E3.
They have no idea how to sell a game, their whole PR/Ad department needs shot into the sun.
I expected a lot more from N7 Day from the way the team was hyping it up. I'm still excited but that trailer didn't make me as hype as I expected it too.
Count me as another person annoyed that BroRyder seems to be in the majority of marketing at the moment.
We'll see though, i'm still looking forward to the gameplay reveal because Bioware seems to have a good handle on the Frostbite engine now

I can't believe they went with the Andromeda initiative being this massive multispecies super advanced public undertaking that was not worth mentioning until this time. Guess all that "extinction of the human race" stuff was just nonsense in ME3, clearly nobody had heard of this massive public project 
Oh well, I'm a sucker so I'll be buying it day one no matter what they do.

The reapers are either destroyed or rendered harmless in 3 of the 4 endings for ME3. Not sure what the hangup is over them nor why you would imply that only the Reapers could be a threat to humanity. Very narrow way of thinking there.

I guess in a way it might undermine what they're going for in the story if the species are there for survival. If they're there running away from the reaper threat, it makes them refugees. If they're there to gather resources and somehow send them back to the milky way, then they're a form of colonists. Of course, since they're already there, I assume they're stuck and still need to colonize to survive to at least some degree.
That said, it could be a neat plot point if the pathfinder figures out the actual reason for the time of the trip was due to the reaper invasion, and everything they left behind truly IS considered left behind now.
