The new Overwatch maps have been genuinely awful

The only one that isn't too hot is Horizon.

Oasis is one of the better KoTH maps and Eichenwalde is probably the best map in the game (after the tweaks that is)
 
How would that be fun? Also didn't Jeff kaplen say why didn't make the whole level low gravity in one of the dev videos?

It doesn't matter that the low gravity isn't in the whole map. It's on the outskirts of the map. A part that you would never even normally go to when you're playing. Same thing for Oasis and the cars. You're never on that part of the map so why even put them in there. It's just lazy design.


If they're so worried about "balance" (which is a bullshit concept since they themselves admit that balance is nearly impossible and always changing) then why bother putting resources into stuff like that? Why not just spend more time designing a map without gimmicks? Especially since said gimmicks aren't even seen by the majority of players.
 
I'll jump on the train and say Eichenwalde and Oasis are both very solid maps.

Horizon has some flaws though: Too many corners to peek from, it has a weird mix of tight spaces and open spaces that make it difficult to navigate when you aren't a high mobility hero.
 
Honestly I like Horizon slightly more than Oasis. I hate Oasis. It's a boring map with boring colors and design- which is weird to say since Horizon is mostly gray.
 
I think the maps are fine. I actually like horizon. Oasis isn't my favorite, but it's not terrible either. It's just okay. The jump pads actually do get used a ton in my experience on the one point. The cars are pointless, but whatever.

The castle map (I'd destroy the spelling if I tried) is my favorite and a great map.
 
I agree with the moon map being a bit shitty but all 2cp maps are so it's more of a problem with the mode and how the design has to be catered for that.

Eichenwalde and Oasis are awesome though
 
Eichenwalde is best map.

Agreed with OP about useless gimmicks: I don't want the entire map to revolve around jump pads and zero-g, but why put them in the map at all if there is going to be 0 interaction with most of the player base?
 
I maintain the opinion that Blizzard sucks at making maps and no map making tools for the community remains the worst part of Blizzard's take on "games as a service".

I don't get Oasis but thats more of a I suck and haven't played much thing.

Oasis seems bad tho (even if the same haven't play much thing still applies).

That being said, it sure would be neat to have new game type added (not sure what) with the next map (after junkertown); that would freshen up things quite a bit (would probably need to be atleast 2 maps tho)

Hi, my name is Jeff.

But really, I use all the characters in the game, so what probably helps is that I'm constantly changing depending on the situation. Never a dull moment and all that, it keeps things fresh.
 
I wish Horizon could be repurposed into something like Dustbowl in TFC/TF2 where there's small sections of the level divided and you move to each area as the offense accomplishes the objective. It'd probably be easier to just create a brand new level from scratch with that in mind though.

Horizon as it is right now is awful and I hate playing on it.
 
oasis is my 2nd fav capture point other then liang tower

echenawhilde was trash and horizon is only good because it's the only 2cp map that actually let's the attacking team have a legit chance to win

I thought the same thing until I noticed 2 very interesting tidbits:

1) It's an undetectable flank route due to closed doors.

2) I've activated a McCree Ult in space and no one heard it(because you're in space). Walked right into the door at the enemy's chokehold and got 3 deadeye kills.

Oasis' highway is just about useless but that moon space flank is pretty good.
 
I've seen defense win on Horizon like... once.

Designing maps for Overwatch is probably difficult since the meta has changed so many times, both from players and from Blizzard's reworks. They can't be too open or else it's just a nightmare to play on defense, they can't be too constricted or else it comes down to "Did offense use enough ults to simply overwhelm the defense and take the point?" At least the latter became less prevalent with the global ult nerf.
 
Horizon rarely ever shows up in queue. I think ive played it 1-2 times since it made its way to the main server.

Eichenwalde sucks hard. Thats easily the worst map.

Oasis is my favorite of the new maps. Hope Junkertown ends up being the best.
 
Oasis is alright, nothing special. Horizon though, yeah I agree it's just boring as hell. Especially for a map set on the moon, they could've done so much better. Eichenwalde I'm kind of indifferent towards. I don't really mind it.

Junkertown looks awesome though from what I've seen.
 
Didnt Volskaya, Anubis and Oasis get voted least favorite maps in a poll or am i crazy.

Cause yeah 2CP sucks ass and so does Oasis.
 
Oh man Horizon was a fucking troll if I ever saw one. Guys, we're gonna make a map on the moon! Completely indoors. Using the same indoors assets of all the other maps. You'll forget you're on the moon in like 10 seconds.
