Breath of the Wild 2 will most likely be an exclusive for the new hardware and potentially Splatoon
Please. BOTW is the best selling Zelda ever, you think they’d tie the sequel to the compulsory purchase of new hardware?

First thing the improved Switch will do is improve the performance of existing games. I doubt we’ll see exclusive Nintendo games for this fabled new machine in the first year.

On the other hand, they’re crazy enough to make Metroid Prime 4 exclusive to the new hardware, but that’s just because that game isn’t coming before 2023 if we’re lucky.

If Nintendo is going to do that then they might as well drop a new console all together.

i really, really reaaaaaaalllyyyyyyyy doubt this one unless its a.new3ds type deal with very few exclusives to hype it up or they are talking about a proper next generation Switch

But i don't expect much to come out of this 🤷‍♂️ PSPro/ONE X didn’t even had exclusives

Why you argue with someone who has such pathetic nickname?

To be honest, I do want prime to be exclusive to it. Probably Bayonetta 3 as well. I mean, the latter i'm pretty sure is having performance issues on switch, because you just know they're pushing the system hard with lots of spectacle.

But yeah, no way in hell Zelda 2 will be exclusive, that's tons of lost sales.

Please be fake, why the REEEE leaks as of late? Only thing I miss about GAF.

Yeah, that's right, I lurked, but only because the old GAF requires the current REEEE paywall, aaaaand I'd get banned.

It would probably release early next year, not anytime soon (my speculation despite the leaks). Every 5-6 years was how generations used to work back in the 80's and 90's.

I don't see this happening. Nintendo dipped their toe into exclusives with the new 3ds and I don't think it went all that well

So according to the rumors/consensus so far, how powerful is this thing supposed to be? Base XB1 levels?

I'd say it sounds too good to be true but then I gotta remind myself XB1 runs more recent games like WDL and CP reeeeally poorly.

It would still be way "underpowered" compared to PS4Pro, XB1X, and of course PS5 and SX.

I don't wanna get my hopes up cuz this shit always seems to end in disappointment but there really seems to be a lot of smoke this time. It would also explain Nintendo's near silence last year. We know how they get before a new console launch. Lookit them before the Wii U and Switch, they went pretty dark for an extended period of time.

Anyways, fingers crossed for this.

If Switch Pro exists, I expect it to be more a Switch XL than a Switch Pro.

I expect it to be exactly the same console but with a slightly bigger and better screen and 4K upscaling chip to upscale from 1080p to 4K with no programming required in the game side, so it would run exactly the same Switch games that would perform exactly like in normal Switch. So no, it would have zero exclusive games because the hardware of the console internally would be essentially another Switch revision.

Switch Pro wouldn't be like a PS4 Pro, which has more powerful hardware than a base PS4. And even if it would have a more powerful hardware, its isntall base would be too small to make exclusive games for it. Specially when very likely they will release a Switch 2 in a couple of years or so.

Sounds like total bullshit.

I mean its not out of the question, they did it was the 3DS. As someone that bought the original Switch I hope they don't though.

Nintendo doing it right. Leaving inferior hardware BEHIND.

TAKE NOTE SONY AND MICROSOFT

Is this satire? You realize Nintendo's hardware is already two generations behind, as will this incremental upgrade.

Such a joke. The Switch can barely handle some of it's games already. Need to bump up the game performance, not make prettier games that also run like molasses.

No way. I would love for this to be true but I can't believe it and I will not hope for this.

That with better screen and stuff, wouldn't it be expensive as hell?

I could see native versions of stuff like Hitman 3 coming to the new Switch. and maybe this will be like these games will be handled. Cloud Streaming version for the old Switch versions and a native port + the option to play the Cloud version on the new Switch.

1.8(ish) TF GPU,720p oled,4 core(8 threaded cpu mobile based)
$299-$399 with $350 being my best guess.

If true... I want them to go even higher with the specs of course.

Nintendo obviously learned going from Wii to Wii-U. This seems like a safer approach, at least for Nintendo. Basically a stealth re-launch with a strong concept and brand name. We will see if how many companies take advantage. Just get those 64 MB carts out and cheaper 32 MB carts.

It will also be interesting if the insides are just unlocked potential of already present chips, or something more beefy.

it happened with the GBC, DSi and 3DS and it will be on Switch Pro/2, I'm not surprised

Seems very doable this year, looking at the power consumption of something like the RTX 3060, that uses 170 watts, has 3584 Cuda Cores, RT hardware, Tensor Cores and runs at a boost of 1785Mhz, power consumption in smaller GPUs doesn't scale linearly, but a 7th of the CCs would put it at 512 Cores, so the same speed as the 3060 would mean max it could hit 24 watts, going by the pure flops figures it would be around 1.8Tflops, of course NVidia Ampere Flops are entirely different to PS4 AMD Pitcairn 1.84 TFlops.

This thing could easily hit around 911Gflops in portable if Nintendo clocks it at a modest 890Mhz in portable and it would use under 12 Watts on the GPU, but the best thing is that because of DLSS it doesn't even need to run that high and even at 445Mhz it would still have over 3X the real world performance of a portable 2017 Switch system, while that raw hardware upgrade would also go much further because of DLSS in portable mode.
If this is in any way true I would expect Switch Pro to have a massive battery life upgrade over the 2017 or even hardware refreshed system that came out fairly recently.
Nintendo would be silly to not at least have this ready by March 2022, but there's no reason why parts vendors could have what Nintendo needs by the second half of 2021.

Switch should be getting games like COD, but obviously it's had issues with making games like Cold War fitting the Tegra X1, there shouldn't really be any issues, especially if the chip Nintendo uses has a decent enough modern ARM CPU, I don't know what would be best suited, but some of the modern smartphones that are cheap seem to have some pretty good tech now.

I just want to hear something official from Nintendo now, seems like a no-brainer after their handhelds always seem to get upgrades at some point, Switch is certainly a prime candidate for that to happen sometime soon, the tech certainly doesn't prohibit a device being good enough to keep the Switch family of systems getting modern 3rd Party AAA titles and future Indies that come to consoles beyond PS4 and Xbox One.

Would make sense, Bowsers Fury struggles to run on the Switch its still an amazing experience but for that 60fps it tried to do there is alot of drops and even worse in Handheld mode.

Breath of the Wild 2 will most likely be an exclusive for the new hardware and potentially Splatoon
They didn't even make Breath of the Wild exclusive on Switch - it still came to Wii U.

Hardly satire.

Doesn't matter if its thirty generations behind. They aren't catering to plebs on inferior hardware by giving them access to switch pro games thus forever decreasing the quality of the switch pro games.

Not hard m8.

The new 4K games specifically ran on the enhanced Switch are going to be FIRE. I'd make a wager that one of the games with be the direct follow up (hard to call it a sequel) to Breath of the Wild, and a new sequel to Mario Odyssey.

A 4K resolution 3D Mario game that is a sequel to Odyssey is going to be outrageous, and will smash all these other violent titles on the other consoles. I think people are slightly but progressively starting to get tired of all the pointless violent titles unless they are in world class competitive tournaments like a Halo, Mortal Kombat or Gears of War 5...

Has anyone seen the world champion speed runner for Mario 64 on Twitch Cheese?

I didn't really understand how a rumor about exclusive games on a Switch Pro exists when the rumor about a new Switch model is yet to be proved.

I think Gaf is suffering from a syndrome of rumors.

well, there are many things that point towards a pro model being worked on. the firmware updates having suddenly a new product name and 4K support baked in, Nintendo apparently ordering OLED screens from Samsung, and the fact that Nintendo almost always update their handhelds in some way.

GameBoy / GameBoy Color
DS / DSi
3DS / New 3DS

these all were new iterations with slightly more powerful hardware and excusive games on them. A Switch Pro is therefore very likely and becomes more and more likely the more we hear about it from somewhat credible sources. add to that the current trends with hardware refreshes and we got a very VERY likely scenario.

Agreed, plus the tech in the way of far more efficient ARM CPU tech and GPU hardware is available, obviously that depends on NVidia putting that into a fully realised Turing or Ampere based SoC, but the building blocks exist.

Things like DLSS also make perfect sense to use within portable mode, as it has nothing but a benefit towards battery life, which is a logical improvement for a portable system and that goes beyond what your bog standard architectural and standard generational hardware improvements would provide for Native full screen rendering.
A Switch Pro could see massive graphical and performance improvements in portable mode, because of DLSS, sure the raw native rendering benefits of Turing or Ampere and more efficient smaller NM transistor sizes will also use less power per Cuda Core, but this has to be something that Nintendo has looked into in their next Switch iteration.

The CEO's recent comments about always considering new hardware and never being free of a "Do or Die" thought process in not resting on the current successes in the recent Nikei Interview also kind of feels like Nintendo are gearing up to announce something fairly soon, like within the next few months of this year.

Still all rumors dude. I'm not gonna talk about tech and stuff because I'm not a tech fetish. But I know Nintendo tends to repeat their moves from old portables.
Not trying to discredit anything, I don't doubt a new version myself. But we're talking about a "supposed Pro version" rumor. And here we have a rumor, about a rumor.

Nah. New and more demanding games will still run on the old Switch versions. With exactly 11fps.
i can see that. cyberpank on ps4 vs ps4pro. its normal. i hope its not true though. but the machine is 4yrs so who knows. i hope its like to wiiu to switch or 3ds to new 3ds feature wise.
oh just remembered, they could offer cloud versions of the games.

true, but even without the rumors I would expect them to do this, so it is an interesting point of discussion. is this a good move, a bad move, a meh move...
I for one get why they would allow exclusive games on it since that opens up the possibility for more types of games and ports. also most developers will try t release on every Switch system if they can due to the FUCKING huge number of units on the market. so I personally think this won't hurt the old Switch at all and will open up new possibilities.

Nah, publishers love cross gen.

It actually makes sense if the game is a 3rd party and releasing on all platforms (PC, PS5, PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbone, XSeS, XSeX, Switch Pro).

Except the original switch because the devs don't want to bother handling a massive down port. It might entail a lot more work for them.

If Switch Pro is at the same level or above PS4, then it all makes sense to port the same game without having to bother about a much lesser version on the original switch.
