The New Xbox Boss Is... Steve Ballmer?

It finally all becomes clear...

XB1 seems very much like a product directly out of the asshole of Steve Balmer. I wonder whether Don decided to leave in the first place because Balmer micromanaged the entire project and now wants to run it into the ground all by himself.

Regardless, all his change and upheaval can't be a good thing for the Xbox platform. Hopefully they get someone really good to come in and run the division (not Phil Harrison), as competition is what has made Sony so hungry and focussed. MS staying in the game will keep them honest, and a humbled MS will make MS themselves see the light... hopefully...

Humbled MS? Wut?

Wow, so it's true that Don is out. How fitting for him to go to Zynga.

Humbled MS? Wut?

If you haven't been paying attention, MS is currently being savaged by the press and gamers alike.

They have been since their XB1 reveal. It's unsurprising given the hubris of their original policies, and even worse the awful awful PR debacle that followed.

this is a big mistake, if true. but I imagine it's only going to be temporary. isn't Ballmer in the middle of weeding out a ton of mid-to-high level execs anyways? microsoft is in desperate need of some reorganization, trimming of the fat, fresh blood, and, well, let's face it, the ouster of ballmer, but that last one's never happening I guess.

They should get J back :) Pay him millions, just do it.

Because he was so cool back in the day.

In the Allard era the brand Xbox was the most influential one, the most exciting. He ruled the most beatifull Xbox conference ever.

Allard is one of us, a pleasure to interview.

Pretty standard procedure here for when a senior exec leaves a big company.

Probably won't receive a permanent boss until the rumored division re-org goes down.

Wait, why do people like J Allard? I've never even heard of this guy until now. When I look at his Wiki page, it says he worked on the first Xbox, the Zune, the Kin, and the Courier. That's a horrible track record. Say what you will about Don Mattrick, but he oversaw the Xbox 360 as it witnessed huge growth, increasing profitability, and a highly successful Kinect.

Unless of course you hate Microsoft and want them to lose money and exit the games industry, then yeah, J Allard sounds like a good choice.

Matrrick is destroying what Allard (and Kim Shane, Robbie Bach, Peter Moore have built)

I hope he's the next CEO. I'll be giving the Microsoft conferences 10/10 if he hosts it.
