Yes please! I've been saying this since the beginning of season 2. There's more than enough humour to be derived from the behind the scenes workings of the crew and writers, but they have gotten almost completely sidetracked with guest stars galore and outside influences. I still think the strongest episodes were in season 1, when the stories revolved around the writers room. Theres nothing inherently wrong with outside influences when it's as funny as it is right now, but still, i like it when the ensemble is all together.

I've seen 7 episodes of S03 so far and I completely agree that there have been way too many guests whom were not funny (one for each episode I think). The only guests I remember liking is Steve Martin and the dwarf guy.

And so far, the writing hasn't reached the quality of the episodes pre writers strike. It seems like the episodes after the writers strike took a turn for more slapstick / general silliness which has become even more pronounced in S03 compared to S02. I hope it gets better soon, otherwise I'll have to ditch this like I did with Arrested Development S03 and Scrubs post S02.

I was laughing so hard that I had to pause the show when Baldwin said, "I once claimed I was God during a deposition."

That was so fucking epic. This show is on a run of a season not seen since the Hurricane Neddy days of The Simpsons. Every week I keep waiting for a shitty episode to disappoint me and it never does. I think circumstantially I never thought they could think of a worse date for Liz to be on, but getting the Chinatown last words from a dying Mom? Yup. They topped the untoppable.

So far all three seasons of 30 Rock have gone the same way: a little slow at first, but when they find their footing, it's just unbelievably good, which made season 2 tragic, because their best episodes were the ones towards the end.

I really wish they would stop alluding to mexican traditions when talking about Puertorricans. It's not funny when you know they want to make mexico jokes but they don't work in a New York context so the writers just substituted mexican for puertorrican. I guess they think that its all the same shit. it's not funny.

What joke are you talking about? Serious question.

Anything with the Salma Hayek episodes. Here's one example: According to the writers of thirty rock in Puerto Rico a McRib is called "un senor macho solo". This is completely bogus as the menus in Puerto Rico are in English and have the same names. That's just one example.

Well I'm not Puerto Rican or Mexican or Hispanic so I guess I'm not especially cultually sensitive to these sorts of jokes ;)

Nearly all shows in Hollywood are written by a room of white guys so they are likely to miss all these cultural nuances across the board.

but that joke was funny. it was just meant to be a silly joke about nonsensical translations. and it worked wonderfully as a callback to the mcflurry joke translation.

and as someone with a spanish heritage, I love the little bits of spanish they toss in episodes here and there

Jack Donaghy's loving ode to the McFlurry in last night's episode of 30 Rock has gotten the blogosphere in a tizzy -- has Tina Fey's Emmy-winning sitcom completely sold out to egregious product placement? According to Ms. Fey, the answer is a resounding no. Fey issued this statement to finally put McFlurry-gate '09 to rest:

“It gives me great pleasure to inform you that the references to McDonald's in last night's episode of 30 Rock were in no way product placement. (Nor were they an attempt at product placement that fell through.) We received no money from the McDonald's Corporation. We were actually a little worried they might sue us. That's just the kind of revenue-generating masterminds we are.

Also, the upcoming story line where Liz Lemon starts dating Grimace is just based on a recurring dream I have.

Seriously, though, it's not product placement.

Also, whoever is writing my Twitter account is pretty funny, but it's not me.”

It didn't come off as funny to me. Just dumb. It doesn't help the fact that most of America think Puerto Rico is a country that doesn't speak english. You know how annoying it gets to be asked if you have a Visa, if they have an army in PR, what currency PR uses, etc. when we've been part of the US for over a hundred years and served in every war since WW2.

Perhaps it bugged me more than it should have. I'm just tired of the media acting like PR is Mexico. PR doesn't use pesos, they use dollars god damn it!

Puerto Rico. Serious business.

I agree
I like the relationship stuff, but there should be balance that is why season 1 was great.
I want to see Pete, Jena, and Tracy doing the show.

I love 30 Rock. I do. I can admit it. And to think that several years ago NBC were launching Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip and no one gave 30 Rock a cat's chance in Hell.

And now look at it........

If I were to have one criticism of 30 Rock (and that's if I had one) it would be that the show feels unfocused at times. It feels that sometimes the large cast is being sidelined too often to accomodate Liz and Jack.

They may be the leads of the show and it's not as if they aren't entertaining. It's just everyone else is very compelling.....

I mean come on. What's Frank been up to? What's his new hat this week...

I thought tonight's episode was horrible. It wasn't funny and just felt wrong to me. The only thing I really enjoyed was Tracy on Larry King.

I actually really liked the episode, but I do agree that the Larry King segments were the best parts. "Devil's avocado" :lol

Just for getting rid of Elisa (and yes, sadly, her chesticles), this episode is a win in my book. Combine with the awesomeness of Tracy Jordan on Larry King (Matt Hubbard, the episode's writer, loves this scenario - he wrote "Hard Ball" with Jenna embarassing herself on Chris Matthews as well), and you have one that even if a bit uneven and rudimentary had me laughing.

"And second, and more importantly, in 2009 I have done it two more times than you! Give it up, what what!"

C'mon, that was awesome :lol

Did anyone else notice the slight gag when they got off the X train??

At the very least, the should rename a street in Long Island City to Zorgonia Ave.

Noticed the train stop but didn't see Janic Jimplin until now.

I thought this was a really forgettable episode. Five minutes later and I can barely remember anything that happened, aside from the Harry and the Hendersons clip and Lithgow cameo.

I liked it. I often prefer the more normal episodes to the crazy ones. Especially when they focus on the existing cast rather fill it up with celebrity appearances Lithgow aside.

Yeah I also liked this episode. Especially the seven words you need to be a lawyer struck me as really funny being a law student.

Plus the Lithgow cameo was just so random.

This show continues to steal my naivety, tonight I found out what a Hot Richard is. :lol

As for bite nuker, I know the French part is bite what does the Dutch part mean?

30 Rock has definitely hit its stride this season. They hit it late into last season, and because it was short, we couldn't enjoy it. I'm excited for the rest of the season.
