The Official Call of Duty:World at War Thread

I wonder how many people will plan to go full prestiege this time around. I have a feeling I won't go to full level prestiege considering this time around it's 65 levels, not 55, and it looks like it takes more exp to level up as it goes into the higher levels.

I was level 7 prestige on COD4 but I won't go past 65 on CODWaW if I have to wait until 18 to play hardcore again.

This is really, really, REALLY a bad design choice IMO.

I broke down and bought the game for the PS3 after saying I wasn't for months and months because Treyarch is making it and that I didn't want to go back to WW2. But when I watched the multiplayer videos, I couldn't help it. I loved COD4 and that's what I want more of, even with a different setting and older weapons.

What's the average amount of time it takes for good user-made maps to show up? Thinking about picking this up on PC a couple of months from now. I remember playing some user-made maps on COD:UO that were beautiful, and more fun to play on than the included map set.

Got the PS3 version today, very disappointed with the split screen co-op mode. Screens are small. Wonder if the 360 is like that also? Also why no options for how you want you're screen layout? May be a framerate issue.

Aint had a good play of the MP game as yet but, if it's any thing like the Beta it will be awesome.

Yeah, the screens are offset in co-op on the 360, too. They probably did it to maintain the widescreen aspect, but it makes them the size of animated .gifs on my 37" TV. I think they should have just split the screen down the middle.

Multiplayer is fine, on par at least with COD 4. But the single player, well, after coming off the back of playing Dead Space, Fallout 3 and Gears 2 it just seems poor. Everything is Cannon Fodder. And defeating the enemy doesn't seem like much of a challange. I personally think these types of games have had their day.

I'm not sure if anyone knows about this yet but:

UK GAF: You can get the PS3 and 360 versions of CoD:WaW for £27 in Asda (until the 16th apparently.) I went to buy it today, but my local store had run out.

I guess this means that CoD will be at the top of the UK charts then.

Oh you are fucking kidding me.

I just got it today, and holy shit is it fun.

I did 2 missions of the campaign and then decided to try just one match of multi-player and ended up playing for an hour and 45 minutes and getting myself up to lvl 13 before only stopping because I had to take a bathroom break.

The tanks and dogs are HILARIOUS. I love it.

I just finished the campaign, and I can't believe how much I enjoyed this game. I had huge doubts going in, and was among the many who were extremely disappointed with Treyarch's previous Call of Duty efforts (I couldn't even bring myself to finish CoD 3).

The game still has the more-annoying-than-ever franchise mainstays, like endlessly respawning enemies and laser-guided grenades, but the whole experience is very immersive and satisfying overall. Some of the levels are outstanding, and outdo CoD4 in terms of making you feel like you're part of a huge battle.

The explosions deserve special mention. Most explosion effects this gen have been disappointing and pathetic, even in high-profile releases (Hi Gears 2 and Resistance 2), but the ones in World at War are fantastic.

im a WW junkie, the game has been great but this is the first time it feels like im just going through the motions in a WW game, i think i need the to take a break.

I seriously feel like I'm being punished right now... like I did something bad to someone and now I am due to suffer. I don't know what I've done but I swear I will be good from now on if you LET ME FUCKING PLAY HARDCORE DEATHMATCH!!!!

I CANNOT stand regular TDM and the spawn fest that comes with it. I can't stand shooting someone dead in the chest and having them walk away. I hate martyrdom dropping at my feet with a guy from the other team around and only I die from it.

What did I ever do to you Treyarch to endure this abuse from you? Why are you making me suffer through all this bullshit just to play the real version of multiplayer? Please patch this, fix this, or do something but it's made my first 16 levels a living hell.

And look on the bright side, when I don't have a killcam I can't tell how obviously horrible your spawn points are. Maybe some people like watching the guy they just killed spawn behind them but it's just not for me. Oh well, two more levels of hell before I can reach heaven.

This game simply has so many awesome set pieces but I have to say that the gunship level has to be the best in the game yet.
Running inside the plane from turret to turret, shooting dowing gun boats, merchant vessels, squadrons of zeros. Seeing the US fleet getting attacked, kamikaze's hitting the destroyers, PT boats shooting survivors, blasting the boats, hauling people in between it all, fending off waves of zeros, holy shit!
It was so damned intense.

I love this game.

http://www.videogamer.com/videos/ca...video_comparison.html?type=hd&playlistid=2902 here is a comparison link for the game. After watching the video it appears that there is some lighting missing from the ps3 version, also the game seems somehow more clear on the 360 version....maybe it's running at a higher res??? Dark you care to take a look at this? You have a better eye at this type of stuff than I.

in the overall scheme of things would it matter? Your happy with the game right?

Okay, guys. For those with the Wii version: buy or rent?
How much do you like FPS and is Wii the only system you have that can play this game?

If you really like FPS and only have the Wii, then definitely buy this since it's easily the best FPS game on the Wii (although that's not saying much considering the dearth of FPS titles on the Wii).

The campaigns are well done and the multiplayer is terrific - so it's a solid title all around and should last you for a while since you'll definitely have plenty of competition online.

If you have other systems that can play it, get it on those instead since the Wii is missing some multiplayer modes.

use your douche to clean it up

How is the coop, is it similar to Gears of War 2?

Just beat the campaign tonight, it's such an enjoyable game. There were a few times where the whole invisible trigger to stop the spawning enemy and begin the next set-piece Call of Duty thing got a little frustrating but all in all it was such an enjoyable experience. I defiently see myself replaying the game on a higher difficulty to re-experience some of the missions. Treyarch did a fantastic job with this game, I hope they have as great as success as Infinity Ward did with Modern Warfare.

Now I can start playing the multiplayer and even give that zombie mode a shot.

Are you kidding? The thread is nearly dead. Even though people who actually played this game are saying it's as good as the last one, no one cares because for whatever stupid reason.

The game will most likely sell fine or at least decently. The problem is most of the hardcore audience was never overly interested in this title. Some of them still play COD 4. Some of them simply are tired of WW2 games. Some of them have moved onto the other big guns this year like Gears of War 2. Some of them are simply looking for more than a ww2 mod for cod 4.

The game will still be a million seller (probably multi-million) but the hardcore audience is waiting for COD 5.

Anyone have the DS version? I saw a video of a multiplayer match and it looked fun for a portable.

I guess no one has it? Oh well, I plan on getting it anyway. CoD4 DS was pretty cool, and this has online play.

Buddy of mine said that it skips story missions while in co-op and on top of that you can't even earn the achievements/trophies in co-op.... What the fuck? I thought this was their big new feature and it's like they're encouraging people NOT to use it.

Of course I'm loving it, I'm getting my ass handed to me on veteran. Some people like to compare their options though, I thought the video might help them with that.

I'm going to pick this up when I've cleared my backlog, I'd appreciate some impressions of the flamethrower as it was one of the main selling points.

It's a cool weapon that insta kills anyone it touches, even though it over heats far to quickly and takes a few seconds to cool down. Overall though, I wouldn't say it's a weapon you'll be carrying around with you alot.

Thanks, does it slow your turning circle and running speed? I guess what I'm asking is it useful as an offensive weapon or is better suited for holding an area?

I don't know why I insist on finishing the Call of Duty games on Veteran, they get so fucking cheap. You turn a corner and die before you can even see an enemy, every time you get behind cover you get pelted with 7-8 grenades all around you, the enemies just continually spawn meaning to get anywhere in the game you just have to look for one quick break in the action and run forward, otherwise you can be stuck holed down getting spammed to the shit with grenades forever.

I really wish Treyarch and Inifinity Ward would actually start putting some actual effort into the difficulty, simply giving the enemy inifitinite grenades, respawns and 100% shot accuracy doesn't quite cut it these days, it's just cheap, not hard.

There are some missions that wouldn't work with 4 people running around, but only a few. And you can earn achievements in co-op. There is competitive co-op also, where you earn points and challenges, so there is plenty of reason to play co-op.

While I don't play Hardcore playlists, because I'm a bit shit, I understand why you're upset. This seems to have been decided on for similar reasons to Bungie's Halo playlists. I get that they probably want people to play all the gametypes they spent ten minutes nicking from other games from fifteen years ago but that just means the player has to sit through hours of games they aren't enjoying because they can't pick the gametype THEY want to play.

I love Team Deathmatch on Halo, but cannot stand variants on that theme...just straight Team Deathmatch and I could sit for hours playing. As it is I end up having to play Shottie bastard Snipers every other game and hating humanity for the 5 minutes I am doing so. This was why I enjoyed Call of Duty 4, if I wanted to play TDM I could go to that playlist and play nothing but TDM for as long as I wanted. Search and Destroy? It's in there too, in its own playlist.

There is no excuse for developers thinking they can dictate what type of games you want to play. I know what I want to play they should let me play it. If you want Hardcore TDM it should be available from the start.

Matchmaking hasn't been very good at finding a good connection for me so far. I've been stuck playing games hosted in Japan and England, and I live in NY.

Tried that and still didn't work, that sand was wedged in there from Treyarch pretty deep.

It's insulting considering that COD4 has all gametypes open up from Level 1. I don't know why they felt the need to fix something that wasn't broken.

You can change your options to only search for your locale.

it could be used for both. It has good distance and you can whip it around.

No it didn't, Hardcore TDM was unlocked at level 11 and S&D was level 14 i think, once you prestige they stay unlocked.

Uh.. no it didn't. You had to unlock a lot of the playlists as you moved up. So you might have to spend an hour or so in regulat TDM or something... oh well. It's not a big deal at all.

edit: beaten, Perry Mason style.

HA!!! After playing COD4 for year straight I guess I never noticed that. I stand corrected then... but it still sucks.

Doesn't matter now because I'm level 18 and I can now wear my big boy pants and don't have to sit at the kiddie table anymore.

For those who bought Resistance 2 for ps3, which game is better? I know it's hard to compare these things, but I'm super busy with school and I only have time to spend on one game. I loved both COD4 and Resistance 1. Please help GAF.

I broke down and got the game today. Multiplayer is still the best thing around but the new maps are kinda meh imo. Too open-ended with lots and lots of holes for people to come out of. I guess it will take getting used to...

i totally agree!

Besides earning XP, what's the difference between competitive and campaign co-op?

Well, judging from the beta, I'd say Resistance 2 because its pretty much a combination of COD4 and the original Resistance.

Annoying problem here
PS3 Version, btw

single player mode sometimes lags for me, as in like when i click the L3 button to sprint , character sprints but half the speed, and i don't mean slowdown, framerate is fine, but just the walking/run/sprinting speed drastically cuts down, for no apparent reason

then moments later, back to full speed, anyone else gettin this??
and i repeat, not slowdown, its just the character moves slower than usual.
happens sporadically. is it my copy or anyone else getin this?

It happens on water and steep hills I think.

I just bought the PC version and I wanted to use the 360 controller for windows.
But.. it doesn't work! In every other game it works fine except for this one, there's even a picture of the 360 controller in the manual.

Seems very strange to me, anyone else tried it?

Yeah, some of the maps are way to open-ended. Great for big team battles, not so great for smaller 6v6 core/hardcore modes.

The tanks are still the most annoying addition to multiplayer imo. Respawning of the tanks is bullshit and it basically comes down to who can get to the tank first.

well i wasnt on water, but i dont think it was a hill

anyway it hapenned on the early levels, now doesnt happen as often, im hoping for another patch (1.03) fixes that, cuz its kinda annoying.

but aside from that, loving the game.
very intense,

admitedly, i think cod4 was i dont know, smoother or more interesting, but i'ts been fun. i havent turned it off since i started playing for the first time, a few hours ago, so happy purchase.
