at work today (home depot), i made some schematics for a racing set up i'm gonna build. should work quite well, and be cheap to boot. only thing i'll be missing is a chair.

anyone got any suggestions? maybe an auto pick and pull (they still might charge a lot for one though)? if i could find a cheapo seat that at least fits somewhat like a real car seat, that would work

like this?

Does anyone know of any cheap versions of these cockpits? I saw one called the wheelstation but it looks too tall. I'm not handy enough to build one from scratch, but I'm not wealthy enough to pay 500+ for something I'll only use for racing games.

p.s. i just ordered my DFP wheel at Amazon (using the GAF link at the top to help the forum with $ - which everyone should do btw). $104.99 total, no tax, no shipping. I love Amazon because even with the Free shipping, since I live so close to Dallas, I always get my order the next day. Since it's Saturday, I imagine I will get in on Monday. I'm going to a friends tomorrow to watch the Nascar race, and he also bought GT4. Afterwards, we are gonna play for the rest of the day. Just wish I could bring that wheel with me. I know he would trip out over that. Hope it's as good as you say Gek. As I am selling my red Logitech MOMO Force (a classic) on blind faith that this new DFP wheel will be better (it better be, as I love this red momo, and it is not being made anymore and are near impossible to get).

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! Don't do it, bro! The DFP is very, very nice, but I wouldn't sell a MOMO Force for anything.

Just don't. Or if you will, PM ;)

i already have it on eBay (check the link in the post you quoted of mine)

but dude, you are scaring me!!! i don't wanna lose my baby to anything inferior! is it???

End that auction early. Seriously.

At the very least wait until Monday when you have the DFP in your possession. It's a great wheel, but it's not going to replace the MOMO for PC racing. 900 degrees mode is awesome in games that have been programmed for it (aka GT4 and that's about it at the moment). For other games, 900 is a bear because the controls are linear (meaning excessive movements for even the slightest turns) and it is practically impossible to dial in opposite lock. The 200 degrees mode is inferior to the MOMO's 270 (DFP range of motion feels too limited).

If you play PC racers, hold onto that wheel, bro.

Yep. Go into My eBay; under "Related Links" on the right, go to Seller Resources; under "Managing Your Items," click End My Listing Early.

and i won't have to honor that bid that someone already bid on it? it just cancels like nothing ever happened?

p.s. u can answer this again in your post above ^^ mine, to save this thread.

p.p.s. thnx for saving me from a big mistake. and Gek, damn you for allowing me to think that DFP was better all around! grrr... u almost cost me my baby! ;) i sure thought those DFP pedals looked really cheap and crappy. my momo pedals are decent, especially since i have done the squash ball mod on the brake pedal.

It is better over all. 180 degrees is soooo yesturday. These dumbasses could scare you from selling a NES.

mashoutposse let me ask you a question....

does the Driving Force Pro wheel have a PHYSICAL limited range of movement of only 200 or 900 derees? I mean, does the wheel contain something inside of it that physically locks it into place when you activate the 200 degree mode?

In other words, let's say I decide to mod the wheel and place the PCB circuit of another wheel, the Speed Force Racing wheel for the Gamecube into the Driving Force Pro. Then let's say the Gamecube wheel has a set turning radius of 270 degrees....would that cause Gamecube racing games played with the modded Drivng Force Pro to have a limited range of 200 degrees?

what about his contention that the DFP is only 200 on the PC whereas the MOMO is 270 Gek? if going by degrees, then would the momo not have it beat?

larger degrees aside... i read that the DFP was much much MUUUUCH more accurate (i read this from a logitech software driver programmer on their Wingman Team Forums . Edit: found it, here's a quote from what he said...
The resolution went from 10 bit (1024 counts) [MOMO Force] to 14 bit (16384 counts) [DFP]
i am just worried mostly about those cheap looking pedals on the DFP. i hope they are better than they look or at least as good as the MOMO's (which aren't bad at all when you do the brake/squash ball mod).

oh yeah, there are some new Alpha drivers for the PC out that take advantage of the DFP (4.6). the current, non beta 4.4 release doesn't take advantage of the DFP. these utilize it's added precision.

also want to point something out i found out during my research. apparently, there are two different versions of the DFP wheel. a Revision A, that uses plastic bearings in the housing, and a Revision B, that uses new steel ball bearings. the difference is it's supposed to be a bit smoother in the feel, and of course the durability goes way up. the way you can tell which version you have is, look at the plastic packaging that contains the paperwork (ie: manual, etc.) within the box. on it, it will have a little sticker that says "Revision: B" if you have the new version.

the only other way to tell is by the serial number. but i personally don't know how. i think they tell at their forums though if anyone is interested.

seriously, i dont think its gonna be hard at all, and i'm not a handy guy either. get your self a seat you wanna use, take some measurements of positioning for the wheel and pedals (maybe using a real car for reference?) and draw up some simple plans using steel tubing and joints (this shit just screws together). head to home depot, have them cut your lengths, and just throw them together.

rough pricing estimates for what i plan to build are in the neighborhood of 40-50 bucks at the very most w/o a seat. i figure once i have it all bought and cut (which they'll do for you, if you give them a day or two to get it ready), it will only take an hour or so to assemble. my "blueprint" is surprisingly basic, but should work very very well. i'll definitely take some pics of it when its done, and likely throw up some plans to get someone else started.

sweet. would you mind publishing your Bill of Materials and length's of cut's etc here when you're done? :D

Edit: nm, i see you said you would. DOH! thnx. :)

i'll even post the skus so you can walk into your local depot, give your order to the special order desk for will call, and pick it up a few days later :)

that is, if all goes to plan, and i get a seat soon

Good luck. I'll keep an eye out for your plans and definitely give this a try.

The MOMO's 270 degrees will definitely be missed in games where the DFP's 900 degrees mode doesn't work well. The DFP outside of the 900 degrees mode has a limited range of motion, IMO.

Otherwise, the DFP is a stellar wheel.

Once the DFP is in 200 degrees mode, some sort of lock slides into place that forcibly limits the wheel's range of motion.

how do you unlock tracks & cars for the two player arcade mode? the stuff I unlocked in GT mode doesn't seem to affect that...

Why don't you choose 4WD? Though it is the composition which became stable most and stands big output. Now we declare "4WD is a supreme!". If you approve of this declaration, to participate in this challenge.

K I started it up last night and put a couple of hours into it. Pretty freakin sweet.
I didn't have many credits on my GT3 save, I think it only bumped me up to 12,500 total. No big deal. I would rather earn my money fairly.
I started with an Integra Type R (I can't believe I can start the game with this car. Wow!). I have gone through the Sunday cup and the FF challenge races where you don't need a license, and now I'm kinda confused as to where I should go now.
There are several choices open to me. But I want to be able to compete. Any suggestions?

Why? These games always make you start with a cheap POS.

I'd say give it some extra HP if you've got enough, if not race some of the courses where you get the most CR till you can get enough to build up your car decently.

I just saved up enough money to buy a Honda S2000 so I can use it in both the FR and Roadster events. I figued it wont be a bad car to have and tune-up as the game goes on either.
I wish the Cadillac CTS was in the game. Too bad. I think I'm gonna get the Chrysler 300 though. :) That car is hot, I wonder if it will be any good in this game.

Heh picked up the wheel last night but I'm having major problems with it from the looks of things. It's probably because I'm way too use to the dual shock now as a controller for this.

Though I did manage to beat IA16 though (and yeah it was an absolute surreal experience shooting down a 4 mile straightaway at 235 behind a DFP).

Going to try + play with ASM setting a bit, I keep hearing it's what's causing GT4 to feel a bit off at times.

Forgive me for blundering into this thread somewhat.
I was wondering if anyone has a really advance GT4 save and if so, would it be possible for me to get a copy of it? I will of course, renumerate you with a gift of a game. I get loads of stuff through so shouldn't be too hard to find what you need. If anyone has the inclination/time, it would be greatly appreciated. Please PM me if so. I will, of course, pay all postage etc...
:)

Wowowow. I just saved up to buy a Ford GT (Midnight Blue). Holy crap that thing is a monster. I thought my Skyline was fast till I started using this thing. Geez. I'm about to take it to the Nur.

for tracks go to options from the main menu then go to Course registration. select the tracks you want to be playable in two player mode and then select OK. note that not all tracks are playable in 2P mode and there is a maximum number of tracks allowed. as you unlock tracks in GT mode they will show up on the list but you will have to go select them.

for cars I believe its the same as LAN. you have to put cars in your favorites in order for them to show up in 2P. theres a maximum of 30 cars allowed I think.

So now I'm doing endurance races. Are you seriously telling me there is a 24 hour race!?!?!?! on Nürburgring Nordshschleife no less. Man doing one 8 min race with my DFP on that course hurts my hands. Tried it out a little and it's nice to know my suped up Audi Le Mans Quattro '03 can do the job ;)

Thought I was the only one that was happening too. At about 4minutes in my hand is completely cramped from all the shifting and turning you've gotta do. The amount of concentration that course requires is unreal.

So I unlocked a Nismo 400R which is pretty sweet. Does anyone know how to unlock the 2000 Mustang Cobra R? Reason being is that I have a 2001 Cobra and its the closest thing to my car :lol

There's two tweaks that I didn't know about with the DFP (kind of lost the documentation when I ripped open everything + just tried to set it up blind).

- 900 Degree Mode:
SELECT + R3 + RIGHT PADDLE

- 100% Force Feedback mode:
SELECT + R3 + LEFT PADDLE

You didn't miss the documentation, it flat out sucks. Can't believe the wheel costs this much and they can't bother to make a swass little book.

From what I've seen, there isn't much setting up for DFP users. You can turn on/off power steering (I leave it on) and adjust the strength of the feedback (always on the strongest setting). That's about it.

EektheKat: Did you feel a difference going from whatever the default was to 100% force feedback mode?

These won't do anything for games that natively support DFP 900 degrees. These settings are for games that were made to support the original wheel.

ahh that explains a few things lol...was wondering why it wasn't registering at all for GT4.

Oh well, I personally found the DFP feeback to be too strong at times, and that my car was starting to drive itself under certain circumstances.

Heh well it got a lot better after I clamped it down on a sturdier table.

I was using a foldout poker table for a while to get it set up, but now I'm playing on my LCD on top of a sturdy wooden desk, it feels much better now.

i was just reading the IGN review of the DFP and was shocked to learn that there is no centering spring/forces. they were basically saying that after 300 degrees the wheel was basically worthless due to the wheel not centering itself properly after a sharp turn; unlike a wheel in real life. :(
