The Official Gran Turismo 4 Thread (Now with sexier graphics)

omg I got GOLD on IA-15!! After like 2 hours of going off the track...I finally completed it and got gold! 8'57.155

Allright, I just went and tried this much feared (it seems) IA-15...

WTF? Not only is the car a joy to drive, and thus is a peach to thrash around the ring, but the amount of time they give you, even for a gold, is more than generous. Not only that, but that damn pace car was the one slowing my down.

I got used to the 'ring with the MR2SC, and I get it around in the low 8:20's on just 155 HP and stock suspension, I assure you that that is a lot harder than putting a 9:02 in a merc 190E evo.

I got the gold and I'm not satisfied... I really didn't have to push the car... that lap was mostly cruising around, braking early and accelerating late...

What is everyone's best A Spec score on a race? On the Easy wet Tsukuba course I got one in the nineties using my '04 Elise. I'm really not very good, but was wondering what others have gotten.

if anyone still cares, i just put the finishing touches on my racing set up...

i'll be testing it after a shower, and taking some pics (unless i need to do some more fiddling with certain aspects).

EDIT: sorry, pics will be delayed a bit. my cameras bateries are dead. early impressions are that it turned out pretty well. i spent about 30 bucks on it, and it was fun too, so i'm happy with the out come. only problem is, i still need a seat. in the meantime, i had sawed off the legs to an old 4 legged chair (:lol), but unfortunately, i did this in excitement before the rest was built, and now its a few inches too short. makes racing a bit uncomfortable at the moment. looks like i'll have to "convert" another chair ;)

I won the Sylvia Challenge with scores around 110-20. These are pretty much the only races so far that i had good Aspec points. I'm actually not caring about it. I hope everything will unlock by the time my game will be completed...

my coffee breaks in this game are like the little old lady getting hot coffee spilt on her at mcdonalds, without the multimillion dollar award winning settlement afterwards.

I got gold on the first coffee break where you go through the cones in the best way possible. The other breaks...hell no. I feel weak since someone posted that video of a 3-5 year old kid getting a gold ranking with the one where you knock the cones down. :|

I took the low-fi way also. I'm using a board(sold as a shelf) that's cut to fit the span of the arms of my recliner to mount the wheel on, with eyelet screws on both sides towards the front and one on the back. Bungie cords go from the eyelets to the bottom of the chair to hold it tight. It works really good at holding it tight on the chair. Total cost: less than $10.00. And I can be comfortable while I play. Like I said, pretty low-tech, but effective. :)

I've golded the first coffee breaks and the two spiral ones. Them shits is tough.

I'm trying not to think too much about the autocross one

Are you guys getting golds on all of these tests with the Dual Shock controller or with wheels? Cause I've only done the B license tests and there was one or two tests where I just could not get gold. I couldn't shave like 0.157 off of my time (or something like that).

Just got GT4 - so i've loaded up my gt3 save with my 100,000 credits. I've noticed the first 2 license tests have been passed. Are they automatically all golds? How do i check..

Also is the screen shaking thing only remedied via progressive scan? (I live in PAL land so no joy).

It doesn't give you any medals when you transfer. It just gives you your license. Go to the license test screen and go to License A or B...you'll see that all licenses are blank. You can still do them if you want...you get cars for getting all bronze, silver or gold

Highest was around 160 points. Actually, the entire Turbo cup (Pro event) I did with my Elise had races that were all above 120 and I managed to do them all. That car is simply amazing.

On some of the low end races (beginner compact cup) I have no idea how you can manage 200 points. I had to buy a really nice car just to have a shot at winning and my races were only 8-16 points.

I just finished the Nurburgring 24 Hours Endurance race and won the Formula Gran Turismo. There's one problem though, the car is freaking white and pink! That's just mean man. I heard something about unlocking some autopainter?

Well, I tried using my JP GT3 save file for my US GT4 game and it didn't work. Oh well...it would have been nice to get all of those cars from my inventory.

I picked the Toyota GT APEX Trueno '83 to start out with...but I was getting my ass kicked. I reset and went back and bout a '92 Evo and have been doing pretty good so far. I have a few upgrades and about 10K credits.

Anyway, what is the best car to start out with?

So hot!

All right, it's time I asked for some help, I really need it.

I am basically new to GT, I have 1 and 3, but barely played them, and even then did it in Arcade Mode, two player against friends, laughing at how much we sucked. So I'm really putting a lot of time into GT4 in Gran Turismo mode, and getting nowhere fast. I'm at 203 days, with only 6 cars in my garage, all ones I have won doing License Tests or finishing Driving Missions. I only have about 15,000 credits, and 2.8% of the game completed.

My main question is, where do I go next? I have completed all license tests except for Super, I'm gonna put that off a while until my skills get better. I have mostly golds and silvers in the B License and A License tests. I have also completed all the IB Driving Missions. I've gotten all gold in the Sunday Cup (no big deal, I know) but I keep losing other races. Should I try to soup-up the cars I have, and use them to win new races? Or should I keep replaying races I know I can win, building up credits, and buy new cars? I am using the DualShock BTW, I know lots of people recommend the wheel, but I cannot afford one. I've read other "help me" posts in this thread, but I'm still pretty much lost. Does it all boil down to "practice, practice, practice?" Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

does GT4 work with HDDLoader?

my laser is buggered so not sure if it will cope ... roll the dice each time i put a new game in really..

Soup-up cars. That's the point really. Pick a race category, choose a car that is allowed and get going. One suggestion is try to pick a car that can be used for multiple race types. For instance I chose a Honda S2000 because I could use it for roadster/speedster (convertibles only) and the FR races. And then I superchargered it with turbo upgrades and later used it as my Turbo category car too.
That way you are not buying a new car everytime you enter a new race category.
You can also re-do all the race categories you win. So you can keep winning prize cars and sell them for cash.
Don't forget to do an oil change with any new or used car you get before you drive it. Instant HP boost.
I am also using the DualShock, the only problems I have with it are in the license tests. Other than that I just make sure my car is faster than all the ones I'm racing against and I get the job done. :)

Good Luck.

yeah the load times are annoying. they really need to have some shortcuts, like from a race or the menu's before a race to go directly home, or to your garage, or to save, or to go to your manufacturer's page or to the car's upgrade sections. why the hell they didn't put these shortcuts in blows my mind. nothing worse than having to watch 5 different loading screens just to get to a commonly used section like your garage. fucking stupid actually. for the developers to lack that kind of foresight borderlines on the retarded. i just can't imagine nobody thinking of that.

Thanks for the advice. I'll admit I've been getting a little impatient, as my gaming backlog is huge, and I've been putting so much time into this game and apparently getting so little in return, while my backlog sits there mocking me. I'll just have to learn to be patient and enjoy myself. Thanks again.

good gosh, wtf? who needs to chill? you need to realize that's an opinion (the point of a forum). the point i made is perfectly valid. so read it and move on and keep your gay picture posting to yourself.

I agree. In no way did we say that the load times ruin the game. But they are pretty much the most excessive I have seen in a game in ages. I do use my HDloader for every game that I can though.

"Other than that I just make sure my car is faster than all the ones I'm racing against and I get the job done. "

teh weaksauce. There's no rush like feeling a CPU car creep up on ya on every straight, only to muster every ounce of skill and spank it in the corners that follow.

I try to keep power upgrades to a minimum, in fact I had pumped up my MR2 Supercharger up to 175 HP, but I scaled it back 20 ponies until I fine tune the dynamics because on stock rubber and suspension, despite getting around the ring in the lower 8's, it was getting unruly.

exactly. also, my post was about how they would have been made a lot less bothersome had they put some shortcuts in to avoid having to go through multiple loading screens. dude is confused or something.

What car must I buy to win the Hong Kong race for the FF class in the Beginners Hall? My fully tunned 81' Civic w/ 307hp (won from the Civic competition) wins all the FF races with a breeze, except the Hong Kong race.

Those Frenchy cars constantly kick my ass.

I dont remember that race being particularly hard. are you getting beat on the straights or just overall. I think I used a 96 Prelude but I dont remember what I had the HP at.

The load times suck if you like taking a bunch of photos. Although I'm not sure if it's disc access related, but it takes quite a while to display your snapshot

Here's a question, There seems to be a "photo tour" mode and a track meet mode when you pick a course, does the photo tour mode actually allow you to take pictures? I've seen some photo mode snapshots that look like action shots on a particular course, but for the life of me can't figure out how to do it. It just seems like the only pictures I can take are the ad-type pics from the other photo mode.

My PS2 just started to take longer to load up GT4 today. I have tried 20 different configurations and it seems that it is when the Network Adapter is plugged in that GT4 takes like 45 seconds to load after the warning screen, otherwise it takes about 3 seconds. The PS2 will make a sound like it is seaching the DVD for the longest time. I am starting to think that my laser needs its pot adjusted becuase the NA sucking too much power. Anyone else experience this or does it even sound plausable?

Detuning my car and using close range transmission works for me on that course. Close range transmission is the key, so try it in a different car if it doesn't work in your civic.

During a replay, hit Select.

In other news, anyone else do the second special conditions race over and over to get 'dirty' money?

I just got the game, yes I know I'm late :D but I'm doing pretty good so far, I'm doing all the license tests, now I'm on International License Test B, and I'm doing a lap around Nurburgring, it's such a great track to drive on, you can go at some insane speeds!

Sorry I'm very excited, it's without a doubt the best driving game I've played and I've only completed 10%, I can't wait to do some endurance too. I have a question, it's a bit odd but during the endurance, can we possibly save mid-race (in the 24 hour one)?

Wait until you get to drive at Le Mans (goes by another name I can't remember at the moment)...

In the race cars you can go 220+MPH and the sense of speed will raise the hairs on the back of your neck....

nope, but you can go to the pits and put it in b-spec mode, where the computer AI will drive for you

Buy an MR2! The car is descended directly from heaven and engineered to give you a 24 hour errection.

"Buy an MR2! The car is descended directly from heaven and engineered to give you a 24 hour errection."

I beleive this news.

Oh and I'm game for a timed lap challenge, the only thing is that doing it on any other track than the ring would be immoral. because anyone can run a good lap around a 2 minute track, but sticking a whole 'ring with nothing but net when actually attacking for a good time is something for the real men ;)

And it should go down with one-make rules: a single car for everyone, no tuning. I suggest we start with the RUF BTR :]

Thanks for the advice :D I'm doing the Special License tests now and it's very hard but I'm about to give it another go, and I'm up for doing timed laps and sharing with you all. :p

I'm looking forward to doing the endurance stuff and I've yet to race on a wet course, I recall seeing one of those earlier in this thread?

whatever happend to the online mode expansion disc they were talking about before the game came out. or was that cancelled and i never got the memo?

It's still coming out, it's called Gran Turismo 5.

So that would be-:

Environment:

Arcade> Time Trial mode

Circuit:

Nurburgring Nordschleife

Car:

RUF BTR '86

Tyre Compound:

Sports Medium (?)

Quick-tune:

Not allowed

Everybody who wants to take part in the 'Nordschleife Challenge' is happy with these choices?
