The Official Gran Turismo 4 Thread (Now with sexier graphics)

I wonder how the game finally controls. I would love to see the same behaviour I experimented with GT Concept. It was realistic yet it allowed to drift a lot. Imo it was the best balance in the Gt series.

Hahaha @ this:

"Since GT3, we've had Need for Speed Underground, a host of pretenders, and of course, Burnout 3. What if tastes are changing? "I think people will always appreciate what GT is," Imasaki says. "It's a long-term brand, it's an evergreen game. Think of it as being like classical music to their hip-hop. We're the Rolex to their Spoon."

Brilliant.

Fap fap fap...

BTW I think it's a pity the game doesn't include neither the old GTV nor the new one (called GT):

GT series is doomed with that pretentious attitude.

Also Motor Trend magazine put Kaz at number 17 on the top 50 most influential people in the automative industry.

Does it say why? I can only guess they attribute Subaru and Mitsubishi bringing over the WRX and Evo do to their popularity in the GT series.

You can't guess why?

A simulation that recreates with superb detail over 500 of the worlds top sporting cars that has a huge influence on buyer choice...

Kaz can really fuck some car companies over if they model the cars inaccurately performance wise. Of course, he's too pedantic and too much of a perfectionist for that, but that is why he's powerful (like that).

and it's not really a pretentious attitude... just a statement of fact.

Other driving games are just games. the GT series is a world class simulator (for car enthusiasts) that just happens to be a game.

BTW, when I said they would make GT4/Prologue versions for several more auto-makers (like BMW, Audi, etc...)... well, I was not that wrong hehe :).

How do you get the game to recognize your Prologue save? Someone said you can skip License Tests with it...

Bro, your translations have helped me so much. I've been saving so many of them. I hail to you.

This is the best fucking racer ever.

I'm not sure, I just saw it posted on GTPlanet.

So nice.

Wow! Holy shit! I just got 10,000,000 credits for my GT3 save! :rock :rock

WOO!!

Damn, there's a really bad visual glitch in the game. If you go into the Vegas strip, the countdown sequence and the first 3 seconds of the race are very, very jittery. The hell?

chaser_fan's thread at gtplanet

Here are some nice touches that I found whilst playing GT4 during the last day or so.

I found this cool feature this morning when I had to get my kick of GT4 to begin the day.

In A-Spec mode, when you go to the race track sections from where you select a track, there are another 4 options that cost between 300-500cr (J) each. I shall just make up the names as they are in Japanese in the original.

Run What You Brung - You and five other random cars are spaced evenly around the track, as in a kind of track day scenario, clocking the fastest time you can. I’m not sure what the point of the other cars being there is other than it feels more realistic. Maybe pretty frustrating when you’re about to set a hot lap and some dufus in a WRX spins in front of you (something which the AI WRX seems to do all to often) Another particularly cool feature of this is the ‘Narration Mode’ a running commentary (in Japanese) about the car you’re driving. Last night I was told in great detail about the D1GP FC3S RX-7 that I was driving. It must have been very interesting. Now where are those ‘Learn Japanese a Week’ tapes I had!?

Free Race Mode – You are up against five AI cars, with the objective being to beat them to the checkered flag.

Photomode Live! – Particularly great feature this one. Drive your car around the circuit in a particulary aesthetically pleasing manner then exit and replay your lap. Fast forward to the correct part by pressing L3 (that is the left analogue stick button, right?) and then press SELECT. Now a whole host of photography options appear. Set up the shot just right then press the shutter and post the picture on GTP. Simple. Now someone buy me a USB memory device!

Mystery Mode – There’s a fourth feature that I didn’t try. Doh!

Mission Stadium

SLR Challenge - Now this was ace, but ultimately flawed.

In the ‘Mission’ stadium, the final challenge puts you behind the wheel of a McLaren/Mercedes SLR at the Nurburgring. Motoring heaven, right? Well how about throwing in five other Mercedes from history and then starting them using a staggered start system, which means the first car (1950s 300SL) leaves the grid three minutes before you! The objective is, quite ‘simply’, to pass the 300SL before the end of the lap. Now this is all well and good, but every time you play, you need to sit on the grid for the full three minutes whilst waiting for all the other cars to leave. Three minutes is nothing right? Believe me, it’s a long time here! Boil an egg or something!

More new features covered as and when I have time…

i really like the sound of SLR challenge - i've seen one on tv where they do it with F1s :D

Does this game work w/ HDLoader? GT3 performed much better w/ it.
Just wondering.

I am looking for the GT4 pic with the silver Mazda Miata driving in the wet....

Does anyone know if the reflection animates like in real life...it looks insane @_@

Why did they take out the distant camera angle? There's a lot of weird things missing in the game for some reason.

MaskRider: Wouldn't by any chance have a Suspension (for the Coilover setup) translation? Really need that. =(

modus: NCSX. They're located in Queens, NY like me -- so ground shipping was more like overnight. Didn't even wait.

Yeah. I have a coilover system already and I have no clue as to what I'm looking at.

There are simulations out there that are definately not just games. Simulations that are very worthy of that moniker. GTR and NR2003 Season to name a couple. Those are not just games and are a couple of the elite sims out there.

*sigh* I'm hopelessly addicted. I started playing at around 10AM. It's now 4:30 and I have absolutely no urge to turn this game off.

None. 6+ hours.

I don't know.I'm not really a fan of the bumper view although I did use it in GT3 at some point.I'll try that new one for sure.

And like I asked before, how many license test in the game. That's the meat of the game for me.

MaskRider: What is that LAST option in the Forced Induction category? The first 4 are turbo. The other two are sports and racing coolers. But what's that very last one? It was the only thing I could get for my SC430 and it gave me a whopping increase of 115HP. I'm guessing it's a supercharger, but I don't hear any significant engine changes.

hey what the fcuK? where's my copy??? i also ordered from ncsx and the status still says that it's in transit.

Hey alpha, how do i check to know exactly when i'll be getting it? i don't seem to have that option on the ups site.

Fuck.

Its not a bumper view, the camera is positioned back and the height of the driver's head, your car is not visible.

Ahahahaha. They have a DeLorean in the game! A FUCKING DELOREAN! :lol :lol

Fuck.

Go to the site and click on "You and Your Order".

It's a roof cam, essentially. I wish someone would hack the game like they did PGR2 and put the camera on the right/left side of the hood.

So...does driving a car with a visible driver limit the number of cars in a race? I think in Prologue it limited the number of cars per race to just two.

It's insane to think that the next GT will probably look like photo mode, except in real time and with better graphics
