The Official Gran Turismo 4 Thread (Now with sexier graphics)

Holy shit that video had me giddy! It's been so long since I played a racer for any length of time, I wonder how long it'll take for me to get my GT skills back to (nearly) that level.... can't wait to find out. :D

That vid is ....wow! Is there a higher quality version of it? I'd love to see the full detail of the course it looked amazing. While watching it's sad to say I was pretending I was driving the car lol

EGM92

Is that wind buffeting the car that you can hear? That looks amazing. This looks like bar none the prettiest racer I've ever seen. Those environments are so real..

Holy crap that video was insane

It's hard to judge from the video quality, but I'm thinking at that speed it even one ups the current speed sensation king, Burnout 3

I want this game so bad... :(

I can't believe that Zonda can take corners like that. He must've pressed the brakes twice the entire time!

Someone post a vid of someone racing a full lap on the Ring in an F1 car in first person view please :)

OMFG I just watched that vid!!!

*faints*

I cannot believe the speed in this fucking game!!!! How the fuck did that guy get the Zonda around those corners at such insane speeds??????? Unbelievable!!! This is going to fucking RAWK with a force feedback wheel and online!

....it IS coming the US with the online feature, right?

Calm down...

!!!!!!!!!!?!?!?!?!!!?????!!

I don't think its online when it comes out, is it?

That video was the most badass driving I've seen in a long time.

are you referring to the video that Wario posted a link to? I dont think thats a Zonda in that video.

Kinda OT, but the latest Motor Trend lists Polyphony president Kazunori Yamauchi at #17 of 50 of the most powerful people in the auto industry.

What is that car he is racing with? Sauber S16? That sounds like an F1 car, judging by the insane braking power and grip the car has.

And yes the track is that hardcore, it was unrealistically wide in PGR 2.

edit: and either the game is unrealistic with braking or the car has anti-lock brakes, because judging by the red bar (brake input) he just slams the brakes when he's braking and the wheels never get locked.

I was just diong that test and spun out five minutes into the lap. Fuck. The sense of speed in 'Nur and Lemans is unparalleled. I broke a sweat and i was so tired i had to take a break before i try again. You feel so many bumps and dips and cranks of the track that you almost feel like you hurt yourself if you crashed badly. It is quite simply the best hardcore experience i've ever had on a racing game, and i've played them all.

So far in the game there's so much to do i dont' know where to start. One thing i don't wanna do is go through the beginning hall and all that beginner stuff. I feel i've done it in GT3 and it feels like a waste of time. There's no challenge to it and you dont' win great cars. I just wanna have enough money to buy whatever car i want, modd it and take it to the NOrdschliefe.

I think the graphics are actually not that great. Some tracks look good but others look worse than GT3. Suzuka has more shimmering than the same track on Grand Prix Challenge. Like someone also posted, it sucks that every track is so restricted in that you can't go outside places where's there's an open spaec. Much like in Rally when you can't go over the curve.

The game has a lot of graphical glitches and despite the four years of dev, it still feels a bit unfinished, graphically. it feels exactly like GT2 on ps1: doing too much. I would say that it looks a bit better, if not the same, as GT3 and most definitely not equal to GT Concept games.

That said i can't ever play another console SIM without a wheel. I can't wait to see what Enthusia will be like but i can't see it having such a blistering sense of speed.

Wow! Good one, ah!

OK, I have a couple of pics saved to my memory card. But, how do I actually get them to print out to my USB printer? I can't seem to find any option to do so!

Sorry to pull a convo interruptus. Can somebody who has a copy of the game and HDLoader with no mod chip and US PS2 try this please?

Rip game to iso.
Move to PSHD using PC.
Go into HDLoader.
Set GT4 to mode 3.
Swap out HDLoader disc with original GT4 disc and select game and see if it boots.

I'm dying to try it but can't till later and someone is claiming this works on the GTPlanet board. Thanks in advance.

I've been following the topic on GTPlanet, and didn't notice where someone actually verified that to work. Can you link to the specific thread, or PM it to me. My mod chip died, and I want to buy and play GT4 but don't want to remod my PS2.

That hdloader thing sounds unlikely. Now it's gonna magically play imported discs without a modchip?

Supposedly when trying to run GT4 off HDLoader in mode 3 it sounds as if it's looking for the disc. Since HDLoader already bypasses region locks when loading games off the HD, I don't see why it'd be impossible that with the disc in it would work. It might be a longshot, but not impossible.

I dont have a non-modded PS2 to test but it does work on my Messiah2 by ftping it to HDloader and swaping out the disc with mode 3 enabled.

know anyone with a nonmodded PS2 you could pop that HDD in and test that out with ;)

Thing that pisses me off is I tried it last week but didn't set option3 with no success.. I could tell that when starting the game in HDL it was trying to access the DVD at startup. By that time I had been trying for 1.5 hours and was fed up. I hadn't read about compatibility issues and had ordered the game blindly assuming it would work.

The PGR2 Ring is absurdly wide.

The tracks are supposed to be the most accurate in GT4, right?

I remember reading something about the GT4 team using GPS while mapping the track, so it would only differ a few cm from real life?

That's discouraging to hear :(

I can't wait for this game, I've been sit'n on this 900% Pro-Force wheel since it came out! Damn delays, as long as the gameplay is smooth It'll be worth the wait.

Dose the game run @60fps?

Can't say I agree with GTMax at all. The shimmering we've all agreed on, but apart from that there's nothing else wrong with the visuals. The weird jittering effect only happens before a race actually starts and never during the actual gameplay.

Button Masher: Yes.

How is the shimmering in 1080i mode ? Worse ? Better ?

Update.

I've been trying for half an hour and no dice. Only one guy "seems" to have pulled it off. I'm frustrated at this point. I can't believe no one can get it working yet.

can you give a brief rundown of what you've done

if you want you can do it by PM. I don't want to completely derail the posts that are actually about gameplay in here

I cant get it to load with HDloader now. WTF?

i assume you are using the same setup as before. thats weird. so the other time it booted through and you were able to play and everything?

Hehe...El Capitan is a real mountain? Haha, watching Jerry Maguire and it was mentioned.

I really dont like the engine noises or tyre screaches. It sounds so generic. Why didnt they re-do them ? I was hoping they would make them sound more like Toca Race Driver 2.

Engine noises? Generic? You're trolling gets richer and richer. Every car's exhaust and engine were recorded, not just whipped out of Polyphony's ass.

Really Alpha, no joking here - I am serious. They sound like shit. I would go as far to say the tyre sounds are annoying. This isnt trolling mate, i am dead serious.

This is majorly disapointing for me personally, i hoped they would have fixed this from number 3. I was really wishing they would make them sound more realistic, more rough ala Toca 2. NFSU 2 has really upped the realism in terms of the car sound as well.

It doesnt matter what they recorded if they mixed and mastered it to sound so clean.

You probably just have a shitty sound system.

If not, you probably just have shitty hearing.

If not, you just have shitty taste.

There, I think I have all the bases covered.
