The Official Halo 3: ODST Thread

Did that with gaffers, we had 15 lives to spare once we got it despite the horrible lag.
Totally. We ended up with close to 25 lives before we quit. With decent communication as to who takes what weapons, it's a relative cake walk.

ODST Audio Logs > Halo 3 Terminals
I personally think they're different animals, both executed very, very well.

The terminals had to be enigmatic and aloof. The people who care enough to read the terminals are the 1%, and also are the ones who will 'spawn endless threads' on the internet (i.e. voc). As to the diction and confusing, gargled nature of the terminals, I thought it added to the mystery surrounding the event and only made you appreciate how it was delivered once you understood how it was presented. You got narrative from the General of the army, a lead scientist, a soldier to his father, Mendicant and Offensive Bias, each with their own serious, somber tone of a final apocalyptic event.

The Audio Logs are very well presented and I believe that the terminals would have not got the same message across if it was executed in the same way. Sadie's story is a perfect fit with the audio logs.

Exactly. It even got boring at a certain point :lol

So is it me or is almost everyone basically over ODST? =\

...because it would be terrible, it would be like taking all the little things that make Halo, Halo and then kicking it in the face because you want something new. A class based system would so radically alter the core gameplay mechanics of the game it should not be allowed to bear the name.

and no class based FPS multiplayer will ever be as well balanced and realized as Team Fortress 2. Imagine how many iterations that game went through in its 10 year development time. Also realize TF2 was building on an already established game. Bungie could probably build a cool class-based campaign in 2 or 3 years, but I would be stunned if the multiplayer component were anywhere near as balanced as it would need to be after such a relatively short dev time.

Interesting...

I have it already...but I'll bring that up for our next play through.

With Bungie proving they can drastically update their game every other month or so with Halo 3 I don't see any reason they couldn't probably get a classed-based system pretty well balanced as issues pop up.

Eh, some say it's easier there but I don't by it. I've soloed Heroic Lost Platoon before and gotten to that last wave, even soloing it on Legendary I was able to be to the 4th set. Just get 3 people that won't get in your way and chop the fuck out of the Covie.

I still need my 'chievement points. People can't be done ODST yet!

That's pretty much why we stopped.

I can't say that I'm over it. I really dig the campaign and have been able to find new ways to enjoy it (it's like Firefight for one person, lol), but it seems like most of the people on my FL have gotten over Firefight. Which kind of sucks because I still need to set aside some time to get the Deja Vu achievement. Oh well, I'm still liking it for other reasons.

One thing I haven't really gotten back into is the Rookie stuff. Since you can go from mission to mission, aimlessly roaming doesn't have the appeal that it first did now that all the clues have been found. The open-endedness of this part of the campaign reminds me of why Firefight doesn't work for solo play (I honestly can't fathom how that kid was able to play Lost Platoon all by himself for so long. I would have been bored to tears just holding down the trigger), and once you've done it once, it seems rather pointless to do it again.

Yeah, the Rookie gets old really fast. Especially once you're able to use a mongoose to go around.
Either you want to explore every single corner of the hub or the Rookie part is pointless after the 1st run.

And another thing that was disappointing, what's with the no extra dvd? I'd love to see one of those Making Ofs that Bungie usually provides. I know we have the vidocs but still, a little Making Of would be pretty cool

Ugh class based...

This is weird, when Halo 3 was on its way, I knew it was going to be just super fucking awesome. But now with Reach, I can't say the same. I really don't know what Bungie is going to do.

I'm not done with it yet. :(

(Still got some 200k achievements, still enjoy the campaign, still wondering if anyone's gonna find Siege of Madrigal somewhere in the game...)

Sorry I failed to help you the other day. I'd love to try it again when you're available
The problem is that when I'm in the bedroom, I have to play on the smallest tv ever; it's ridiculous. I'll take a picture so you can see :lol

And yeah, now that you speak of it, no one's found that song yet. Is there confirmation it's in the game?

I just finished the campaign on Legendary. The prologue still feels weird to me, can some one explain what the hell is going on in that final scene with the covenant and what were they doing and where was it?

Well, now I have a reason to play as the Rookie again.

There is a rumour that the area where this piece can be found is in the campaign area. Allegedly, if you travel to Dare's crash-site as The Rookie and make your way to where you spawn on the Firefight version of the map it can be heard. This is yet to be confirmed.

I also played on Alpha Site numerous times with others. I also have done lost platoon, Alpha site seemed easier, but lost platoon is alot more fun.

You have a serious talent in Forge. I'm glad people have recognized it and put you at the forefront of Grifball - quite possibly the largest played weekend hopper consistently.

Damn that's really something. The curved dome, the weaving tunnel pieces on the walls. Impressive.

I feel the opposite. After ODST we have basically played the same game since Halo 1. I'm ready for a change.....a BIG change. Goes back to praying that Halo Reach is somewhat like Borlerlands is......

You may have to wait awhile. When Cocop was doing some of the easter eggs for the levels during Halo 3, he had to wait 5+ minutes in a single spot to get the eggs to start rolling with different audio.

I'm going to try that.

If you guys know of any other locations, let me know now while I'm in the game

Edit: Nothin

You sure you're in the right spot? Beginning of the night map...

It is unconfirmed. And if you can't find it, then you can confirm it NOT being there lol.

Tis a shame that you're wasting your talent on Grifball.
:lol :lol It's almost wasted. I say its a great use, but yeah, I'd like to see Nok venture out of social to make some competitive maps too.

How much time would you say it took you to build this one? I like what you did on the far wall with the interlocking pattern.

Look at it this way: If Reach multi sucks, we can always go back and play H3 MLG customs. Problem fixed.

I've got a couple of firefight achievements left. Maybe we can find a date to do those or something.

In other news, Major Nelson said that Halo Waypoint will be available to the preview folks by the end of this week.

EDIT: Whoops, I thought I also replied to EazyB

i don't dare to lookup how much time was actually spent on this, but to put it into perpective, i downloaded the Canvas map on 9.16.2009 and have played 1300 custom games (which include Forge save'n'quits) since then. It took over a week just to figure out how to build the segmental arch roof (hint: i was reclining in a chair when i finally came up with the process).

Gui_PT said:
Wow, it is weird :lol

Do you think its location has anything to do with that screenshot?
I have no idea at all. All I knew (before I saw the mention of that Halopedia rumor) was that it was probably in ODST, since it had been in every previous Halo game. (I'm not even sure I had confirmation of that, before Marty posted it this afternoon.)

Where it is? Your guess (or Halopedia's) is as good as mine.

Well apparently it's been confirmed it's in the hubworld

The song is usually in a high place. It usually takes a flying vehicle to get there, but since there are no banshees in the hubworld, that's not a possibility.

So it's probably in a high place?
What's the highest spot in the hubworld?

Confirmed? Confirmed by who?

Halopedia is not a definitive source. Marty is - so would another Bungie employee be (guh).

I haven't seen any real confirmation anywhere, but I'm happy to be proven wrong.

I was checking around on the interwebs about this and pretty much everyone was saying it had been confirmed that it was in the hubworld.

Maybe it was just speculation I guess.
