What? I am watching it at school, with a shitty monitor, so I really couldn't tell. Ok, my hype just died. I wanted a new MP game. This doesn't cut it. Hopefully that second game that Bungie is working on releases this gen. If Epic can churn a whole new GeOW in two years, along with another other projects, why is Bungie only giving us this?

Oh please.. Gears of War 2 could just as easily be called Gears or War:Recon.
We don't know what kind of upgrades to expect in this game yet either.

New MP game? We knew we weren't getting that (with this project at least).

Why would you expect a class based system for Halo MP?
The gamespot rumor. I was expecting a more slow paced MP game. Not just new maps for Halo 3 a year from now and not only new levels running on the same engine that will be outclased by everything this fall.
If this is all of it, I am dissapointed. Hopefully I am wrong, but as of right now I am not excited. Very dissapointed in fact.

most likely that in game part is talking about how the new H3 experiences are Recon AND the new upcoming maps. So most likely the new maps will be out sooner. We'll just wait until the BWU.

Gamespot never mentioned MP?
Yeah, I just realized that, fuck I was a fool. As always i should have kept my expectations low. This shit always happens to me with Bungie. I am just hoping that this new campaign lasts more than 10 hours, and for the love of god, please add AA.

They had a rumor of a squad based shooter, nothing about specific classes. You're getting mad about stuff you've made up in your head. :lol

Two things that stuck out the most for me:
New usable weapon? SMG with silence, nice.
Fatality estimate: 99.99%. Could mean nothing, could mean something.

I believe the fatality estimate was for the pod crashing and the SI assuming that nobody could survive it. Once the SI sees it opening it changes to something like .52%

Yes, I recognize that, I don't know where the fuck I got these ideas. I am just hoping this is not everything that Bungie has prepared for us in 2009.

My expectations:

Full campaign on optimized engine. - Exciting. No reason to assume they can't optimize the engine and go as far as add in new environmental effects / updated assets.

FPS - Bungie does them best, would have liked cover play mechanic. Still not totally ruled out, though seems unlikely.

Mythic Map Pack launches in the fall 09 - Dissapointed if true.

Expanded forge features - PUMPED. More robust map editor FTW. Maybe we'll get the other 5 maps earlier and they can just hold this map and its new editing features back until the fall.

Multiple ways to purchase at Retail and first game to launch online purchase for 360. (Marty's recent slam of Gamestop and used games seems to be the lead into this discussion).

Possible Retail options:
Halo 3: Recon and Mythic Map Pack.
Halo 3: Recon and all multiplayer map packs
Box set : Halo 3 / Halo 3:Recon / All multiplayer map packs

Halo 3: Recon campaign expansion available for download requiring halo 3 disk for play.

I'll have to look over the achievements list again, but there are six unreleased maps right? That's enough for TWO map packs... Both Heroic and Legendary had three each.

Perhaps Mythic map pack will come Fall 2009 but we'll get one earlier than that? I'd hope so anyway... I really can't see Bungie hyping a map (Assembly) over a year before it was due to be released.

Unless, just like this botched reveal, MS (the publisher) calls the shots and bungie has no control over it. Don't forget who owns this IP now.

Two years after release you would be expecting at least a pass of AA.

I think we'll be seeing a map pack very soon. Bungie would be wise to ride the Halo 3 hype train all over again and release some maps soon.

Man it's cool how they have the superintendent trying to figure out what happened all within the context of it's purpose and the tools it has at it's disposal. I loved "MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH!" in particular.

I don't think Halo 3 was built with campaign DLC in mind, was it? How would a DLC release work if that was that case?

I'm really thinking this might be a retail only release.

Download it, and it loads up from the lobby menu, just like "Forge," "Theater," and everything else. You may even get a drop-down menu when you select campaign - "Halo 3," "Recon."

There's no way that this game wasn't in the development stage when Halo 3 was being made.

normal map pack
featuring remakes of:
isolation (improved with shield doors)
epitaph (now with even more shield doors)
construct (now with one lift and sword spawn right next to it... and shield doors)

and they will all be done with human architecture (like blackout)

ps teaser looked sick but would like more info on maps and confirmation on when they are coming out

you're forgetting the remake of foundry where there's a single mongoose on the map for no reason(to be added along side regular foundry in matchmaking)

I'll share your disappointment if not. I get a ton of jaggies on my 1080p set.
Way more then probably everything I've played on it (with my 360). I'm sure there are worse offenders out there, but I haven't personally experienced them. The jaggies have never come close to ruining my experience, but it would certainly be something I'd like to see improved upon.

Any bets if we will see his face, or if he will be another hero with no face?
Initially I think, no way.
But maybe they will as showing the hero's face gives them something new to distinguish this game from halo 3, and a different angle to play with narrative.

I bet we dont see his face though.

This. They've never been a problem in the slightest for me, either, but, yeah, it would definitely make the game look infinitely better if they went away.

Maybe I'm hoping it's a retail only release because that implies the engine was improved in some way and is not plagued by the same issues Halo 3 was graphical (Sub-HD, no AA)

You can still make those improvements via download. The engine is the smallest piece when compared to textures / audio.
I just picture this re-using certain assets - like gun models, weapon textures, etc..
Requiring the halo 3 disk in the tray to play could save a download friendly version tons of space.

If this launches with the Mythic Map pack, I don't see why you would expect this to be separate from halo 3 multiplayer.

More excited for the new campaign than MP, Halo has always shone the most as an SP experience for me, especially with co-op in 3.

Add me for any and all future Gaf games if you need a player. I went through a spell there not playing (horrible shit went down :( )and was deleted by a few but it was definitely the most fun playing with the folks on here. So send me an invite if you want to.

So that's it... :lol

I've had Anvil (I think it's called that) come up like twice and it's been vetoed both times, but each time it happened some player would goof on about some mongoose. I've been wondering what the fuck that's about. Why is there a moongoose there? :lol

So, I just watched the trailer. I have to say, I'm of course a little disappointed to hear "Fall 2009", but otherwise that trailer is phenomenal. When the music kicks in near the end... well let's just say no other developer can stir me in ways like that.

Also, do you think we're getting a bit of a hint at the interaction between the Superintendent and the ODST at the end? The signs light up to read "KEEP RIGHT" and "PROCEED WITH CAUTION", almost as if the SI is trying to assist the ODST.

It would appear so. Could be a really cool way of getting info with the SI throwing hints out at you through billboards, advertisements on the walls, etc.

So why did Luke and Shiska go to Japan? Was their job to transport the DVD that had this trailer, or will there be some more info coming?

It's actually Brian (Ske7ch) who went with Luke, not Shishka.

Luke and Brian have to go because they both deal with the Bungie Community/PR department. Representin'.

Shishka's the Zeus of Matchmaking.

Had ODST Recon been carrying a Shotgun and a Sniper, Shishka would've been there.

Shishka stayed home to take care of the house while Luke and Brian went. I'm hoping we get some more info from them in Tokyo. Maybe in the weekly update?

Yeah. Perhaps at the beginning this is how the SI interacts with you, and then eventually you "meet" the SI and he (it?) becomes your companion AI for the rest of the game, similar to Cortana. I'm excited to see what Bungie does with the Superintendent, really. It's quite obvious that he's important to this game in some way.

I'm guessing he isn't as sophisticated as a Cortana AI. His primary job is probably to watch over the city and keep tabs on what's going on. Turning lights on, alerting the people in the city of any danger, traffic lights, etc. Who really knows though, I'm just throwing out the idea. It could be really cool though if he will practically light your way and guide you through the city the way he did with the ODST at the end of the trailer. I wonder what sort of cool scenarios Bungie has come up with that involve him helping you and your squad during battles, or just helping you get around enemies in a stealthy fashion.

Expectations: Exceeded. Haha, expectations, you shan't screw me again!

Mood/Atmosphere: Do want. More "343 Guilty Spark" and less "Outskirts" plz.

SI as a guide:
Do want. It adds character to the levels, and could be reminiscent of following 343 GS & Glados around.

Silenced SMGs: Do want. Looks cool 'n shiz.

MC Absence: Do want. The dude's cool and all, but I'm a little weary of the whole "I'm just renting your head and I can't really bond naturally with secondary characters because of it" thing.

Speculated cover system: DO NOT WANT! Continue on course like you always have with your organic forms of "cover" (scenery objects, etc), I don't really want some contrived cover system.

ODSTs: Do want. Snappy dressers and killer weaponry, etc.

Now I'll kick my expectations to the bottom again and be pleasantly surprised whenever the next media surfaces. Begun the dehype, has.
