16 vs. 16 on Halo 3 maps would be terrible. It's currently bad for 8 vs 8 on Standoff. Adding more makes it worse.

Only if we got Halo 1 PC style maps, it would be great. Think of big islands similar to Silent Cartographer. I am aware there's a Halo PC map that's like that, but the name doesn't come to me. :(

Death Island or something like that, it was good.

So for the New Year... had a little Halo 3 tournament going on (system link) 8 players... Basically each match took off the two worst players... it was down to 1 vs 1... I was part of that... the map is snowbound... other guy takes shotgun and camps below... he gets a kill... starts humping on my dead "elite" (yes it was ruby!) ... Not going to take that kind of idiocy really.. so I handed the controller to someone else...
Dude, you shouldn't let his mind tricks get to you. Instead of walking ou ton the match, you should have kicked his ass and beat him 25 to 1. :D

And for the DLC debate going on now: I think Bungie is going to care more about players who buy the maps than those who just hop on Halo once in a blue moon who havn't bought the maps. From a bussiness perspective, the only players making Bungie Studios any money right now are those who actually buy the DLC maps. So you're lucky that Bungie isn't like Microsoft, otherwise every playlist would require the maps and force players to buy the maps.
But we know that Bungie is not evil and loves its fanbase and would never do that... right? I mean, it wouldn't hurt me though. I paid 20 dollars for maps so far and can only play half of them in the mainstream playlists.

Shishka ringing in the new year with a bang. Here's to another year of incompetent playlist management.
You know, maybe some people enjoy rockets? And at least we get a rotating playlist every week.

Sometimes I think you don't realise how good you have it in Halo 3.

I'm pretty sure they look at the most vetoed gametypes every week and make that the double exp weekend playlist.

I'm pretty sure Harold Ryan could dress up in an SS uniform and stage a mock lynching and you would still rush to defend it.

Depends on who is getting lynched.

edit: Oh, you said mock lynching, nvm - I'd totally be against that

Happy new year, folks.

What an exciting year it's been! The maps situation managed to actually not improve! I certainly wouldn't have predicted this at the end of 2007.

And in the thread, at this time last year, our differences were only simmering. Then through the year we got more and more pissed off at each other, things exploded, people were banned, and now everything's calm again. I think we all learned something about ourselves. :lol

So happy new year, and may the Legendary maps become free and required at some point in the next 365 days. :P

Bleh, rockets is disappointing.

Also, is Live down for anyone else?

Edit: Also, happy new years everyone! Here's to hoping that everyone has a siiiick 09.

I don't know about you, but I've personally learned not to take forever to upload pictures. Not that anyone will really care, but I Flickr'd some PAX '08 nerdage. Nothing really new there, but a few pics I shot while at the show.

Flipping through these reminded me of the awesomeness that is Assembly. I'm looking forward to getting my grimy hands on it -- whenever the hell that is.

Bungie really needs to incur a greater penalty for quitters, especially in MLG matches. People (usually multiple) have quit in 5 out of the last 6 games that I've played. It's ridiculous.

Uh huh. I'm sorry I don't come into this thread and just complain like you do. Just because you don't like a certain playlist doesn't mean other people don't.

@Voc: awesome pictures.

Quitting I think is something everyone is going to have to live with. Just about every multiplayer game ever has had a large concentration of quitters. It really sucks, but there's not much developers can do short of taking rank or locking them out of matchmaking. The former isn't really a big penalty and I don't think a developer is prepared to take the latter of the two.

I think that a simple fix would be to simply ban a player for 5-10 minutes after every quit match. That way, if someone is going to quit, then they have to wait for a few minutes before they can enter matchmaking again. That way, people with bad connections or have to actually leave the console in real life won't notice it because it'll take them at least that amount of time before they will get back. But it will limit the amount of people finding a match and then quitting immediately.

Holy fucking shit, is there anyone in this game that doesn't fucking suck? I keep getting stuck with the absolute worst people on my team.

Story of my life. Although I keep sending you invites for MLG and you fail to join so I don't know why you're complaining about randoms.

Have you bought a real XBL account yet to replace your old one? Or are you still doing that one month stuff?

I just got a 12+1 for Xmas I will have a permanent GT very soon, just trying to think of a good one. Nice to see they finally accepted your signup!

In theory, that would be a great idea. But then you also have to consider implementing it and how that would work. Not to mention who is to say whether someone can quit if they want to? It's not exactly against the rules to quit a game. Looking at it from a devil's advocate point of view, if you paid money for a game, get stuck with stupid people and want to instantly get into a game that's fun, why should you be forced to stay in that crappy game or be forced sit and wait like a penalty for leaving? Like I said, I don't think a developer is ready to push that yet.

:D After months of waiting in the IRC chatroom
Server: EfNet Channel: Bungie for those of you interested. Deepblue and I are lonely
I was finally validated after 10 months of waiting. I signed up back in February when Coco tipped me off to this forum.

It's good to know that you finally got a real account again. It's hard to keep up with what your GT is each month.

Yes a 10 minute time out for all quits, disconnects and betrayel boots is just a really good idea. Its long enough to stop you from being a huge douchebag and short enough that its not a huge deal if it happens.

Sorry pal, everytime you've sent them I've just been getting off. :/

We'll play tomorrow though.

The beauty of that idea is, if you HAVE to quit, you won't get "penalized" because you had to do something else. Unless of course the punishment is given the next time you log into matchmaking.

So like BuTube capture thing I'm not going to be able to get all my clips off all my names am I? Because it goes with the Bungie Pro subscription.

Is Gamevee still doing grab?

I just don't think people should be punished for quitting a game they're not having fun in. If they're chronic quitters, going by their quit history, sure, penalize them. But a casual player who just wants a fun game shouldn't be penalized because he wants a fun game.

All quitters should be horced to wait out for 5 or 10 minutes. Even if you quit out because you don't think it is fun. You know what happens when you quit out of a game because it isn't fun? You make your team suffer because they are down a man, therefore making the entire game unfun for the 8 or so people playing it.

I was just highlighting the best aspect of it. There are ups and down to any system that deals with quitters.

But still, quitting is not against the rules of the game. It might inconvenience other players, but they should go in with a team if they don't want to face quitters. I just don't think it's a big enough problem that needs to be addressed by forcing penalty times on players.

Well then make it a rule of the game. Tampering with the matchmaking system results in bans and other things. Quitting, while not in the same league, also hurts MM and should have repercussions. Make this consequence apparent for all users and if they don't like it they don't have to play; and good riddance. Quitters are one of the main reasons I refuse to play with randoms. Luckily I can normally find a group to play with but I know I'm in the minority. You seem to think it's not a big problem so if I had to guess you probably just don't go in a lone often. Am I correct?

A ten minute timeout would work for some quitting, but would SUCK if you lost a connection, kicked a cable, accidentally backed out, or any of the other common and innocent reasons.

Here's an estimate breakdown on the frequency of these occurrences.

Accidentally backed out: 0.01%
Kicked a cable: 0.19%
Lost connection: 2.8%
Quitting: 97%

Fact: that was the only fun game I've every played on Construct

We must play Rock Band so I can show you how real men do it.

If you lose connection, maybe it's a good thing to sit out and let your connection reset itself for 10 minutes? I don't know, but it just seems to me that the pros of this penalty far outway the cons. Playing DLC BTB with 5v8 is never fun, especially when it's a full group of random guests and me versus a party of 8... yay?
