The "Official" Japanese PSP Launch Thread (NSF56k)

BTW, how do you charge the batteries, does it need the psp or can you charge them separately?

*steams come out of ears*

The battery can be charges only in the PSP atm. There are currently no plans to sell a seperate battery charger but I am sure it will happen in the near future.

o I wonder what it would be if I was playing a game.
That would actually be an estimated game playing time. Some games will last longer (up to 6 hours on max brightness with Lumines, I've heard), some slightly shorter (4:45h - 5h with Ridge).

there isnt any memory stick converters for usb thumb drives is there? i just got a 1gb thumb drive and it would bring a tear to my eye if i could somehow use it with the PSP.

Three days "Preparing order" now. Got this today:

thank you for contacting Play-Asia.com.

This should ship today.

In case of any further question please do not hesitate to contact us
again.

It's 18:40 in Hong Kong now, so I'm starting to guess that it's not shipping today after all, despite their claim.

EDIT: Just wrote and said that I'll cancel my order unless I see a shipping confirmation and tracking number today. I'm not paying a fat premium price if they can't deliver it on time.

thanx mrklaw ordered one too, only mine is on hold because of credit card bullshit :( must be some kind of security thing because i never ordered things above 100$ so far (altough i must have order about 20x with yesasia.com) i just hope they have one reserved for me until it ships and i choose express shipping for the insurence so it should come soon :)

i got the credit card hold thing too, and i've ordered from them a few times before with the same card and address. on the checkout page, they say it's a necessary procedure for all orders above $200. but i'm calling them in the morning just to make sure everything goes smoothly.

Same thing with the credit card happened to me. I'm hoping that it will sort out in the morning.

Anyone else order from the US part of their site? It's no longer in stock there, but if I switch it to the UK region it is in stock (hmm?)

Mine is on his way by EMS (thank you John :) !) and it should be here tomorrow..
My Metal Gear Ac!d has been shipped from Play-Asia today too so my Weekend will be EXTREMELY buzzy!!
/Giggles like a little girl

So does anyone know how to turn on the WLAN switch? I want to try and get it all setup so I dont have to do it in the future.

Also, here is a little quirk. I set the system up in English with the 12hr clock and the date format as MM/DD/YYYY. So last night when it hit 12 midnight, the clock said 0:01AM, instead of 12:01AM, but when I went into the system settings for the clock, it showed it as 12:01AM, I wonder why it doesnt show like that when u see it in the upper right corner by the battery icon.

You push the WLAN switch to the "on" position.

Oh the secrets of sony engineering.

For us that are not as smart as you, where is the switch? is it that one that is right by the Memory Stick port?

W00T!! As a small miracle, DHL picked up my package at from Play-Asia at around 11 pm, now it's in the Hong Kong DHL hub waiting for the next plane. Late hours! PSPs and games on their way, then!

/ happy dance for me too!!

Ran; found out that it's on the delivery truck now. That means that it will go sightseeing all over this damn city before it makes the 1/10 mile trip to my doorstep.

So you are going back and forth between your PC and the window now? :D

has anyone tried a memory stick duo pro 512mb from Sandisk on the PSP? i'm wondering if there are any compatibility issues....

yesasia.com came through! My PSP value pack is on it's way - $307, with free-shipping and guaranteed no tax or import duty to the UK. Lumines and Ridge Racers are on their way as well.

+1 yesasia.com!

Can't wait to get my hands on Lumines! :D

Wow, if the box isn't filled with rocks you really are born under some lucky stars!

I'm checking the new releases and I was wondering how Dynasty Warriors would be to play for a non-Japan speaking? Shockingly, I've never played the series so I don't know if it's only smacking or deeper like Kessen.

Any other worthwile games after the launch ones?

It's curious but a friend and me bought 2 PSPs + RR from Yesasia. This was this morning when there was still remaining stock.
Paypal has charged us the price so they have the money but yesasia hasn't send a order sent confirmation yet...
This sucks...

:(

Why would you say something like that? Do you have one and a PSP and its not working? You worded it so funny that you got me worried cuz I just bought one.

wipe the sweat off your brow marty, no need to worry. it was just a general question because i'm going to buy one online sometime today. i'm expecting my psp soon.... just wanted to get my card before then.

Chittagong, yeah I'm quite happy! Even got $5 off vouchers for next orders as well :) Had to choose standard shipping to qualify for the no VAT/duty thing though, so it might not make it here before xmas. It usually takes a week, so there's still a small chance though ...

ourumov, go to the My Account section of the yesasia site, click on the order number and see what it says next to the the PSP. It takes a while to go from Ready In Stock to Item Shipped. Mine changed in under a day, but it says to allow up to 48 hours.

Next games coming up are Ape Escape and Puyo Puyo Fever. Puyo looks nice with the head-to-head 2-player feature. Is Ape Escape on PSP a collection of mini-games?

Yep.

Some multiplayer games can be played on just one PSP too. One grabs the D-Pad. The other one the main buttons. And the screen is vertically splitted.

No GameSharing support tho. Whicks sucks a lil bit considering how "light" those minigames are.

BTW, anyone knows of any PSP game that is confirmed to support that functionality?

I'm happy you guys are getting your PSPs...

NOW !$!$#@#@#$@$@ PLAY METAL GEAR AC!D AND DYNASTY WARRIORS SO YOU CAN GIVE ME THE LOW DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you.

:D

Can anyone tell me if Lumines has this multiplayer mode? (where two people hold the same PSP). Is that the "love" mode, that someone mentioned once?

Many stores have a big pile of PSP in stock today, the price has dropped a little bit again and more people are buying them. I guess the price will be normal after X'mas.

BTW, MGA and Dynasty Warrior PSP were also available.

How about I can only really read basic Japanese, so if you can find me an English manual, then I will RTFM.

If you can't figure out how to do such a basic function between the pictures in the manual, info on the web etc.. you should have waited to buy one you can easily understand.

Just checked the status of my yesasia order and its still at Credit Card Verification, but it's good to hear that you actually got one shipped out Nash. Gives me hope they'll pull through.

Additional hardware and unpack photos are up in a gallery at backstage.ipodlounge.com. While not new to Lik-Sang viewers, there may be some shots of interest to those comparing PSP to the iPod, including clean, direct comparison shots.

Nice photos!

I still can't get over how gargantuan the screen looks on the PSP! I want mine now! March seems so far away...!

It'll be interesting if future revisions of the PSP include a mini 20 gig hdd inside of them for music. Although I doubt it since Sony will want to pimp their memory stick duo cards. However prices keep going down so in a couple years I won't be surprised to find a couple gig memory stick pro cards for under 75 bucks.

How much were yesasia.com charging for the standard pack? Too bad I missed it, but I'm busy (and will stay busy until the end of the year), so it's not too bad. That, and the fact that when I ordered from them last year around the same time, my package got delayed big time.
