I tried to get into Rayko but thought a lot of the executions were kinda obvious and/or not all that interesting.

I think his best work bar none will always be Barbara Keith's rendition of All Along the Watchtower.

Yeah, he tends to make things overstay their welcome, such as in "Tigerblood," but I like his ideas and it's fun to see the reactions on people's faces. I forgot about that track! So good, that cowbell drives me crazy in all the right ways.

If y'all are into edits, peep "What's Up, Girl?" by Elijah Collins. It's a fantastic edit of "What Have You Done for Me Lately" by Janet Jackson. I'd link it, but I'm on my phone and the wifi on this Megabus is shit.

Edit: that claptone track is nice! Singer reminds me a lot of Beth Orton.

Yeah, this is pretty much I didn't get into the Rayko tracks much. They're more like cheesy remixes rather than using the samples in an interesting way.

That Elijah Collins track is good, though! Reminds me of Mic Newman's Janet bootleg "Leisure Principle"

Jamie XX....man, this guy's a genius. I love the XX, and his solo stuff is insane too. I hope after the XX album he puts out another solo album.

Lemurian and Ecstasy & Friends are both more leaning towards hip hop, think J Dilla meets Boards of Canada. Lemurian is definitely a good listen, I'd pass on Ecstasy & Friends. He changed his sound starting with Pineapple Crush/Angel Brain to what it is now(house/breakbeat techno). Emerald Fantasy Tracks, Echolocations EP, and Galaxy Garden are all fire. One of my favorite producers at the moment.

I need y'all's help, badly. I've been listening to the Will Saul Boiler Room set a bunch this weekend, and there is a track during that I can't remember the name of and it is driving me absolutely berserk!

http://boilerroom.tv/will-saul-50-min-mix/

45 minutes in, "do that sort of thing, we used to like" what is it?! I have it, somewhere, but I can't remember the name for the life of me. I know the melody, I know the piano line, I know it all, just not the name. I can't find a tracklist for the set anywhere... Someone here has to know what the song is, it was huge!

DJTiesto - loved your set. Fantastic flow throughout the whole thing.

I've been quite heavily into Nocow lately, specifically:

Ruins-Tape-Nocow-Fauxpas008-AC177290-300.jpg

The guy is Russia's answer to Burial. His shit is much more diverse (as in he seems to explore different styles more) though going back through the releases. But Ruins Tape is just so sick.

Good look, thanks! Going through some of his material now, definitely interesting.

Whoa, this is really cool. Nice!

No problem, enjoy!

Some of the albums for me aren't as exciting as others, but I admit I haven't checked them all out yet. Working on that :p. His Fort EP is really awesome, it's more like a blend of techno/boogie/ambient with some really nice deep bass, but Ruins Tape is some of his newer stuff is more akin to garage. In fact Ruins Tape is re-releasing on LP this week in some European countries, wish it wasn't too much to import :(

Wish I could hear "Hyph Mngo" for the first time again, anthem of anthems. Fantastic producer. I posted the Shed remix of "Ellipsis" higher up in the page, it's a tune.

What the FUCK at that "Ellipsis" remix! Good lord. I would love to see how people react to it on the floor. It's cool as hell, and not at all what I expected!

And <3 for free Julio and Grimes! Really dig that Grimes remix. The Julio track is a Julio track, nothing super special but I can see it working well. Kashii track is nice, too.

Here is a track that is not at all related to anything just discussed: Yacht - Le Goudron

Sublime disco heat. Such a fun song.

I feel dirty doing it, but I just managed to snag some very high quality rips of Froth/Mercy, Swims and Dun Dun :3 Won't be using them live, of course, but it'll be fun to be able to fuck around with them at home.

That Yacht song is nice. How are there newer releases? I've only listened to "I Believe In You, Your Magic Is Real" and it was just so-so for me. I know there two newer albums were received pretty well.

Make sure you hunt down "Sicko Cell". B-side is hot too.

Truth be told, I've never been a huge fan of Yacht. I haven't heard any of their recent work, with the exception of that, because I thought it was really annoying indie pop and just couldn't get into it. They seem to be going into a more accessible, dance-oriented direction and I like what I'm hearing so far. Their new album is supposed to be a lot of fun. The flip-side of "Le Goudron" is this cute remix of I'll Be Your Mirror. I've also been playing the HELL out of the Kim Hiorthoy remix of Shangri-La. Love that man.

I don't know how I could forget to snag "Sicko Cell"! Lurrrrrv that track. Can't wait to move so I can start using vinyl! Should probably start buying up some now, but truly do not have the space for them at all...

edit: Oooooh! Just found this! Sinkane - Runnin The Daphni remix is FIRE!

editedit: And one more piece of Joy O hotness: Todd Edwards - I Might Be

I've been on a HUGE Todd Edwards kick lately. His recent Boiler Room set is a ton of fun.

editeditedit: OH SHIT! This is HUGE! Teeth - Percolator Meme Has this been posted before? Lumping love Sound Pellegrino, such a cool label. Absolutely LOVED Maelstrom - USSR

Funny how this thread has lulls for a few days then it goes nuts again (usually on a monday)
I heard Mercy get played out on saturday during I think it was Dixon or maybe it was the guy that runs Hot Creations set.
Either way I was shouting woo! and had people looking at me as they clearly had no idea what a beast of a tune was coming in haha

Edit: Damien Lazurus I think his name is.

Ahahaha, that's awesome. I do that, a lot, when I go to parties. I heard Dixon was pretty stellar over the weekend!

Lush - yeah, BR is hit or miss on that, but I guess we can't always expect people to either write down what they play or remember everything they do. It'll pop up eventually, they always do. Would kill for the Bicep tracklist, too.

One more before I go to work: Todd Edwards - Shall Go I lose my shit every time I hear this song out.

Glad im not the only one then!
Within 30 seconds of that happening a random woman appeared next to me (I was on my own as everyone had gone to the toilet) and goes
"Wow! you look like your having a good time!! and you seem to really love the music! Im Kady"
I think it was her name and offered a hand shake haha
"Ha er yeah I do, Im Ryan"
Shook her hand and then she sort of danced off. Very Random.

Also when another song started to come in that I caught the beat of I was like
"OOOOHHHHHHH!!" and It was LOUD! Again people looked at me funny :D

Cracked me up as it was my first sober night out in must be five months or something and I left at 7am feeling great as I had pushed through the sleep barrier.
Seeing everyone else leaving totally mashed gave me some good laughs.

So what is the best set-up to get into mixing? And which programs are essential?

It depends entirely on what you want to do, how much you want to spend, and what you plan to do in the future. Traktor is a great program to start off with, as you can start by doing digital stuff and then later move onto Scratch and using turntables. Serato is definitely for the vinyl-inclined and isn't as intuitive as Traktor, but offers some advantages. There is no "best setup" as everyone is different. Let us know what your plans are and we can help guide you there!

I've been ignoring the new xxxy until now. I thought his last release wasn't interesting at all, but I was wrong to ignore this one! Pure fire! Like that ViLLAGE a lot, too, nice find!!

Some other new thangs:
Semtek - Bento
Mosca - Eva Mendes gets a digital release, at last!Personally, I find "Accidentally" the star of the EP. So snappy.
CosminTRG - Vertigo/Sommer Been listening to this for the last few days. If you liked his past work, you'll like this. It's not as aggressive and loud as some of his other work, but keeps that energy and chug that he's known for, recommended.
Locked Groove - Keep It Simple EP Awesome, awesome EP.
Eliphinio - Vrybdy I've been playing THE HELL out of this song and I'm amazed it hasn't been talked about more. MUST HAVE single.
Bas Mooy/Chris Finke - Howl Absolutely massive new release from Mote Evolver. You like techno, you like this.
Peter van Hoesen - Transitional State 1/Transitional State 2 It's good to see PvH back. Not his greatest release, but #2 is vicious.

EDIT:
I've been asked to DJ a gay pride rooftop party this upcoming Sunday, I need some recs! It's going to be an almost entirely gay crowd, mostly between 30 and 40 years old. They're going to expect to hear Lady Gaga, unfortunately, but I'm going to mostly stick to my house/uk funky/nu-disco roots. I just want to play some really classic 90s Chicago and Detroit house, and was hoping you guys could throw out some ideas. Things like Hardrive - Deep Inside and such. Thanks guys!
