does this game track stats??

Yes. I learned this trying to advance on the stupid "Waiting for host" screen. After a match, click on someone's name.

The game is so close to being 9/10...it's just...goddamn, how did they not see these issues? It REEKS of "get it out, get it out, get it out!"

just finished the level 1 races, and this game is THE SHIT. contra one of its loading screen blurbs, rally cars on a mesa is not a recipe for disaster: it's a recipe for LOVE (insert coquettish pink smiley from that other forum)

the rockhopper (?) track is RIDICULOUS, btw. love the jumps and the huge banked turns. and man, i wasn't expecting to like the heavy vehicles that much, but the way the big rigs carve through the mud with their weird, careening momentum is just awesome. the absence of replays makes me sad, not only because this is the prettiest racing game ever, but because all the hilarious shit that happens during the course of a race is LOST FOREVER. i had this one incident where i upended a big rig onto like three buggies and then drove right over the whole mess.

look at the monument valley hd footage in the 'extras' sections to see how completely they nailed the look. unreal. i can't think of better scenery for a high-definition racing game -- it's truly panoramic. who else watched the searchers on blu ray? it's like you're THERE. on a dirtbike.

So it's got stat tracking, but no friends list, and no private games.

That is so backwards.

That's true, the lack of text chat is cramping my style. On the other hand, it's fun when I hunt down each and every one of you guys one by one in my red FIRE TRUCK OF DEATH while taunting from behind. Tail-gating has never been more fun for me, MUCH BETTER THAN REAL LIFE.

I loled when I saw you in that. I hope those boys are listening and we get some kind of patch fix soon.

man the AI is really kicking my ass. It's like once I think I have it. some ****ing trucker slams me into the canyon. :lol

once you get past the terrible load times. the game is awesome. I'm going to be at this for a long while. :D

all the reviewers except shane bettenhausen and dave halverson are wrong.

Yeah, it's a f*ckin crime there isn't a replay mode in this game. There's all this insanity going on in your periphery and you end up only getting a brief glimpse sometimes. Hopefully they can add it down the road. The bare bones feature set is a real bummer, the core game is so damn fun. Evo, you were right there!

Anyone else playing in the 1st person view most of the time? I really love the hood cam. I'm using it online even if it's a competitive disadvantage, it's just so crazy immersive with the camera reacting to the terrain, mud flying in your face, sense of speed increase etc. I had a race where a Big Rig got flipped over in front of me and I was able to boost under while it was still in mid-air, barely getting by before it squashed my Buggy. I swear I almost physically ducked. :lol So f*cking awesome.

Good games last night (while it lasted). Unfortunately, once the first GAF group disbanded to go look for the other group, the other group's room was full. I will be on tonight if more want to play.

Beamber. I will have my revenge. :lol

Yeah I am using the 1st person cam too. I love it too much, the sense of speed and realism is so badass. You do lose the edge as far as telling where people are around you though.

My very first race last night against the computer I had one of those oh crap moments. I am driving through the mud in the middle of this track when a buggy falls off a higher path way above me. The thing nose dives right into ground and explodes all over the place right in front of me, like 3 ft away, i drive through parts of the wreckage. I could feel the smile move up my face after i finished laughing my butt off.

I just played about 10 races online. Man it's a blast. Theres no better feeling than being in 2nd place at the last 20 feet of the race (give or take), then using the boost to blow your car ahead of the front runner and winning by milliseconds. I could hear the guy yelling on the microphone. I was seriously laughing out loud.

Funny thing, I was the server op for the races, and at the last race I played, I put it on night ambience. Right when the track loaded, this country sounding guy on his microphone started cursing some crazy stuff. "Dang man, ****... somebody done turned out the lights in this bitch." :lol

We gotta get some more gaf races going later.

i'm very much enjoying the single player. waiting for the server load to die down a bit (and to learn the cars and tracks) before going online.

i don't think the reviews are wrong though. the game is absolutely brutal. the initial learning curve is crazy. well for me anyway, first couple of races took me about 7 tries a piece to even 'qualify' (though when i did it was coming in first) and i came first first try on like the next eight events.

the crashes are really inconsistant... espescially in the buggy. when that thing rolls onto it's roof it regularly doesn't explode. other times you clip something and BOOM.

once you learn that crashing is basically doom... thats when the game takes off.

completely edge of your seat stuff. not remotely easy... but white knuckle time.

i wouldn't call it arcadey at all because of how unforgiving it is, but it's certainly a lot more thrilling than a sim racer.

i can totally see where the reviews are coming from though, espescially given how it sounds like online is currently.

I agree with pretty much everything you just said.
It took me about 7-8 tries to qualify as well.
While i feel its unforgiving, i feel its too forgiving as well. Like if you get out ahead, one mistake and everyone passes you, because the whole pack is ALWAYS together, theres never any stragglers with the AI.

Sure there are.

A friend of mine was playing this recently and, despite falling WAYYYYY behind the rest of the pack, there were still two riders behind him.

In general, the AI sticks together as a larger group, but there are stragglers here and there.

The GAF games were fun last night. I finally got a win on my last game, I held off Kittonwy in my American Dream big rig. It was one of the few races where he didn't use a big rig of his own. I'm thinking the big rig is the way to go during the online races. I raced a lot better when I switched. Only problem with the big rig is that you have to stay close, if you fall far behind, you're not catching up.

That last race I played was very weird, the whole race I was in 5th behind Kittonwy and when it was over I finished 1st even though my screen said 5th. Got my first win according to my stats :lol.

I had that race won by FAAAR, and overheated as I hit the finish line (on purpose), and the game seemed to freak out :(

Well.. I've reached GOD status anyway :)

Great racing last night. Some awesome battles with Kittonwy and his f*cking firetruck, and bike vs bike with Flo Evans.

:lol so you were the one trying to run me over when I had a bike that one race. Couldn't place the PSN name to a GAF name.

Also that one game where everyone quit but me should've automatically made me the winner :(. I did two laps before I knew there was a 3rd and quit myself.

yeah i've seen stragglers too.

it reminds me of trying to get gold on burning laps on burnout. you really can't afford to screw up. you can come back from a bad crash on the first lap. you can MAYBE come back from a bad crash on the second lap... but it's almost impossible to come back from a bad crash on the third lap unless you were way out infront.

for me that adds to the uniqueness of the game... but then i don't know that everyone is going to have the patience for the single player... and i don't know if everyone is going to have the patience for the multiplayer (in terms of getting into a game with people you want to play with).

it's surprisingly hardcore... which i enjoy... but i think they've got a game here that with a few tweaks would be a tonne of fun for a much wider audience, as say the burnout games are, which i personally still love.

the big rigs are good on SOME tracks. i can't see you competiting on rock hopper with one though. they seem the easiest to control... it's fun to smash stuff with them, but it really limits your choices with regards to which path you want to take.

still the american dream paint job rocks. they should have licensed Dusty Rhodes' entrance theme for it.

I'm a day behind because my parents insisted on being able to wrap up something for my birthday. I'll have it tonight.

PSN: Forensick

I wish I was able to get online and play with you guys, but I had to work on something last night.

The single-player stuff I played was fantastic, although I was getting my ass kicked in the first motorcycle race. Love that rockhopper course though.

And yes, there are definitely stragglers. First time I played I was in 13th or something for a long time, kept crashing, and then saw 2 other riders drive past me. I swear I could hear them snickering.

Well you keep buying up the subpar products and give them no reason to improve what they are offering you.

We have to have another game tonight. I'll post room details later I guess.

I'm finding the single player pretty easy so far. I just started level 2, but I've come in first in every race so far.

I'll be there, hope my mic works more then two games. Atleast in Resistance all I need to do is unplug it and replug and its back on.

Took me 10 tries to win the Gold for the 2nd race. You really do have to know the course and know where to go. Beat the comp by 10 whole seconds there, but I hate to see how they are in the higher levels.

I just got Motorstorm, and can't wait to start playing it. I was contemplating a bit between this and NBA Street, but I think I made the right decision (still, I think I'll get Street later)

motorstorm online is giving me a gigantic headache. I can connect and play games, but the first game i played went fine, i just didnt get 1st. 2nd race i got first but the game froze at the leaderboard after the race for a good 3 minutes, then kicked us all out saying we quit the race, i didnt get the stats.

I just tried again today, nd im not even done with the first lap and suddenly im DC from the server....

Here's a protip:

When your boost is in the dark yellow/red, your vehicle is a lot more susceptible to damage. Clipping a rock that you normally would bounce off will blow you up. Even landing high jumps on all four wheels has blown me up when my boost was high.

Damn that explains how I died a couple times. I had a person hit me when I was high in boost and it killed me. Good to know thanks.

The game Is F'n AMAZING, It's intense, challenging, and at times the most Realistic looking graphics I've seen yet.

My complaints thus far are the same as everyone else. Loading is a slight bitch, I wish they could done a VF5 type pre install to alleviate some of that.

And last nighet I tried to hop on an online match and kept stalling in the lobby. Everybody else's info said "preparing" was I doing something wrong?

Preparing means that everyone has selected their cars and they are about to start the race. If you jump into a lobby and you see that, then you have to sit and wait for the race to finish. The good thing is, while you're waitng in the lobby, you can chat with people in the race and find out about how long you have to wait until the next race starts.

I'm finding it fairly easy as well. And ditto drohne's impressions. This is game is nuts.

Wow. I had no idea. I thought I would just randomly blow up and it pissed me off. I thought it was a glitch.

Hi, just got my copy at FS this lunch , I'm so anxious to play it online but will not be able till tomorrow morning (working till 11pm today and wifes said come to bed once you get home (cannot resist to that).

SO I will see you online soon I hope

So I picked this game up last with somewhat decent expectations on the final product, because it (I could be wrong) was supposed to be a launch title and then got pushed back to March for online play and other tweaks...

Anyway I played for a few hours last night, and I must say I am not a fan of the single player game. My issues are as follows:

-Load times (they are horrible. I understand its still 1st gen software, but what is loading that is taking so long.

-No speed gauge... I mean come on, its racing, at least let me know how fast I am going....

-No Map. This one I consider a minor gripe, because I can understand why the developers didnt put one in, since its an open road race, with multiple paths to take... It still would have been nice to have a map, just so I can see where the leader is...

My single player review, I give the game a 6

Now, I think where this game really shines is with the online. For some reason when I was playing last night against real people, it was more fun, more exciting. The races seemed a lot better, and the experience overall was much more pleasent.

My online review, I give this game a 7.5 or 8

Hey, can anyone confirm if you dont have headlights when you race at night???

Ok just bought the game after readin on this thread.

So we better be racing tonight. What's the protocol? Look for this thread for announcements of public rooms?

I'm pretty sure Kev (and others) are going to start a GAF room later tonight.

Fun times ahead.

I'll try to get on tonight. I wish I could have turned on some sort of siren when I'm racing in the firetruck. Grizzly is a fun course for the big rigs though, with that giant ramp jump and all.

Yes! Some kind of Gladiator mode like the chariot races of old or just ala Road Rash with all bike mode lol. Awww this game calls for such a mode!

serouisly... someone needs to make an online middleware for PS3 devs. Idealy sony themselves would make it, and provide all the tools you need. That doesn't seem like its is happening though, so someone (anyone!) needs to make one. Unreal Engine for online. Print money, ect. Please.

I think sony should pay/liscense Insomniac for their resistance online template. Fix it up so it works with XMB friends, obviously re-skin it for whatever game and call it a day.

I agree. A friend's list and private rooms with passwords is sorely needed.

The soundtrack is quite good. Still cruising through single player. Really awesome game.

Anyone who thinks feels slow is either or a troll or needs to hope on bike and crank it up. Especially with the dust flying everywhere!

I think the cars are a little unbalanced. The buggies seem slower than everyone else, i was smoked when i chose a buggy with you guys last night.
But when i chose a rally car, holy cow i was smoking yall. The bikes and ATVs are fast, but to me the buggies really do seem slower.

edit for clarification, i havnt unlocked all the cars yet so just going under the assumption of the default vehicles.l
