The Official NeoGAF MotorStorm Thread

Ok i just restarted my system.
The Ticket is Juggernaut, Event Hazard, track is Coyote Rage(which i hate btw) and im still getting flickering shadows and slow down.
If you cant see it, i envy you, cause its driving me nuts, particularly the flickering shadows. I havnt noticed any of this on any of the other tracks.

Other than that i looooove the rally cars. And hate the big rigs.
game is a lot of fun.

my save got corrupted :(

i hadn't gotten too far anyway, and i just managed to redo most of the level 1 tickets. knowing the courses makes a huge difference, and it's as much a matter of learning the little fluctuations of terrain as learning the turns. in a way it reminds of waverace.

Wow, it really does feel a bit like Waverace...especially the air adjusting.

Woman,
You know you,
Woman,
You gotta be,
Woman,
I've got to feeling alone,
When you're talking to me, see right through me,
I've got to feeling alone

Yeah I love adjusting while in the air. I want more ramps, BIGGER ramps. Also it's true. Learning the course is a must. I was playing on one Rock Hopper 24/7 server and finally got the win because I knew where to go finally and which paths where the best.

Yes when racing and you see that guy hogging your space. Hit the burners and ram that sucker off the cliff or bump him off. :)

Yeah, I get a wave race + smugglers run + jet moto feeling myself. But in many ways it's got it's own style game play wise, especially with the use of different vehicles effected by different terrain.

Sounds like a 1 or 2 of you guys are getting corrupted saves? I think I'm going to start backing up my saves before I turn of my system from now on. I'm pretty far and would hate for that to happen. :x Just to be safe...

I bought this a couple days ago, and I've been playing it off and on whenever I have free time. I'm having a good time with it, despite the flaws it has (ridiculous loading times on vehicle selection, frustrating online lobby). Despite beating a few of the single player races, I am pitiful online. I haven't finished a race before the time limit expires, let alone win.

I haven't tried to join a GAF game yet, since I don't have a headset yet. Anyone have any specific bluetooth headset recommendations?

I hope enough people buy this so we get a Motorstorm 2.
agreed.

anyways I really gotta go play some more single player to unlock the vehicles in multiplayer, I'm tired of somebody beating me with some vehicle I haven't unlocked yet. :lol

I think waverace is a good comparison, I wish you could do some tricks when you are in the air on the bike or that would be cool

OMFG I NEED REPLAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5th place, Dust Devil, final lap. Time for the big ass jump, 3rd and 4th miss it, and I land gloriously next #2. Pass him, and push ahead towards the final curb. I squeeze that boost trigger to the limit, pass #1 within feets of the finish line, explode right after I get that gold.

This game is IT. It's incredible.

I know, man. The lack of replays is criminal. I had an almost-crash last night where my car banged around like 3 different walls, flipped over a couple times, landed on its side and finally fell back onto the wheels to continue the race. The physics in this game are amazing.

better be free, because im not paying a cent for stuff that should be in the game to begin with.

No price has been announced formally for either release, but it is very likely that there will be some charge involved. There were some strong hints that the time trial mode may be offered as a free download, but we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed until an official announcement is made.

:/

yeah replays would be nice. Does this game even use the hard drive at all? Maybe for the mud deformation? Perhaps one day they will add that 'record any game' to the firmare and we can put awsome replays in our PS3 HOME :D

Anyone up for some online?? I unlocked some new cars, but I am not really sure if they are actually faster. I'll start a game up on australia. I'll even turn catch-up on so you can mow down my bike on the straits :P

It doesn't use the HDD at all. They mentioned that a couple of times in their most recent interviews. In that podcast linked earlier, they did seem to suggest that it's at least possible for them to improve that with a patch down the line, though they didn't really commit to anything. They seemed oddly proud of their load times.

Okey-dokey. So, against my better judgement, I've decided to get Motorstorm today, as I've been planning to do for some time now. I'm really starving for a new online PS3 game (don't wanna get burnt out on R:FOM) and nothing else appeals to me. So, I'm gonna TRUST
(this seems like a bad idea)
that online functionality gets fixed (and soon).

I am knowingly buying an online game with no friend's list, private games, or text chat.
I am part of the problem.

See you all online. :p

Does the single player mode have more then 60 races total? thats what I read on another forum.

The new demo boasts "over 65 races." Of course, this is between 8 different tracks.

I have only eaten one meal yesterday because I played too much of this game

Gutter_Trash needs food badly

I will go eat a megaton and then I will return to Motorstorm after I have nurrished myself

We're all part of the problem :). I'm praying the update comes at the end of this month or the next month. (edited out) LOL! Whew!

Please delete that before some devs take note!

The AI in this game is tough.

I need to wipe the sweat off my controller.

Yeah I just finished all the rank 2 races and I'm winning by an average margin of like .5 seconds. If you F up in the homestretch on any of the courses, you're done. The AI is right on your ass.

And save some boost for that final stretch.

It's more like unfair really. Assuming you are driving a rally car or a bike full boost on a dry surface, theoretically you cant be overtaken by a mud plugger or a big rig. Well, in Motorstorm, that can happen at high difficulty levels thanks to its awesome rubberband system. But then again, you might get bored of the single palyer game before going that far into the game to even notice.

And that is why I like the online part. At least you know they're human players and they won't catch up unless you do something dumb and even then they still might not catch up.

i got a question about the BOOST METER (in multiplayer)

when I was trailing behind, my boost meter rarely got heated up

but when I was leader, my boost meter was always red hot.

Is this normal to balance the game? or is this part of the CATCH UP: ON option?

gutter add me to your PSN: Chris_Russo, finally I'll race someone I know.

edit: bad_boy you have this game!! message me when your on bitch

Oh yes, absolutely.

It's part of the catch up option yes. Rather than relying on a "fixed" rubberband system that would see the leader go slower no matter how much he hits the pedal and those behind him go faster no matter how good they are, the online Catch Up option affects the amount of boost you can use before blowing up the engine.

Sadly this is not how it works offline.

I noticed my Mud Plugger struggling to get Gold in the Tenderiser map, my boost was always hot even when I was behind. God I hate the Mud Pluggers because racing trucks can easily turn over the Pluggers on their backs

heh alright, im trying to beat single player to unlock the cars but ill get on mp when you guys are game. maybe later tonight?

It would have been nice if there was a bonus to completing the offline game. Like unlocking those paint schemes that are only seen on the AI vehicles to use online.

I have played off road style games before, and even on the PS2 they'd have more depth in the gameplay. Even arcade style games like Freekstyle have more depth. You have to preload your jump, shift your weight, and actually land on the downslope of a jump to keep up your speed.

Motorstorm is horribly disappointing.

Oh, and they're actually making us pay for the extra content coming later? And one of the tracks is a reversed track of one of the ones we already have? PLEASE Evolution, that's just stupid.

I've never seen a racing game where the AI directly attacks you trying to run you off the road. It's like Destruction Derby or something. I typically end up leading the pack on most tracks, but I always get some random disgruntled vehicle smashing me from the rear or the side. They especially love to attack me on the ATV's and the motorcycles.:lol This is definitely one of most enjoyable racing games I've played. It feels like a battle instead of a race sometimes.

fine I'm trying to get the surround sound system I got to work with the PS3 anyway =\ I got it to work WITH the DVD set/reciever it came with, now the tricky part is to get it with the TV/PS3.

The soundtrack is SO HOT.

They just need to turn the volume down, so it doesn't scream so loud when highlighted in the XMB, etc.

and primal scream isn't bad, but they REALLY don't belong in this game....and twice, no less. But I 'spose you can always turn songs in the playlist off, so its no big deal.

great soundtrack

I thought it had to do with what vehicle you chose, like if you use the mud plugger in the mud the boost would go up slower. I failed at thinking that it was just to help you.

Do the different variants of the same class of vehicle have different properties such as speed/handling/etc?

Or are they purely aesthetic?

I'm pretty sure that every vehicle in a particular class handles identically, meaning that the differences are purely aesthetic.

I've yet to play the single player in the game, the MP is bananas.

I'm torn on the DLC. Maybe it's because I get the feeling that this stuff could've been put on the retail disk. And did I read that correctly? They're only putting in one new course which is Coyote reverse? Ugh. Even if it takes longer I'd much prefer 3-4 new courses over these lame game types they're trying to push.

yeah, i really dig the soundtrack too. i cracked a huge smile when the intro of electricity started playing...and it works too! i don't really like the phase of primal scream represented in motorstorm, but i think the songs work in context. even some bands i'm not crazy about -- qotsa, kings of leon, wolfmother -- work really well here. it's a world of difference from the ea trax approach, which will usually catch a handful of good songs, but is more concerned with cross-promotion and demographic coverage than coherence.

edit: i would pay FIVE AMERICAN DOLLARS to add 'ace of spades' to the soundtrack

OMG I just turned mine on and my data is corrupted. This game is officially not worth the 60$ I paid for it. Gimped online, corrupted data, and I might have to pay for a reversed track. Doesn't another PS3 racer already give you tracks reversed on the disc?

Yes I'm mainly pissed cause I have to unlock the cars I had again
