The Official "New Super Mario Bros." (DS) Thread!

Just in case you need the information (and if there's not a Circuit City near you) the game will be available for $27.99 on Tuesday at 5 pm (at least according to my local ad).

You can also order it online for in store pickup or have it shipped for free. I'm sending my old lady down to pick one up for the both of us. Usually we share our DS games, but we both want a copy to play right away (no sharing for me...hells no)

It says out of stock online. I don't see where you can order it.

I gave a call to my local CC and they did not have it in today at least.

You say yours says 5pm tomorrow? Ugh, I wanted to get this early morning. :(

just import already. i tried to wait but i couldn't. so i got one from lik-sang

Did you get Apple-sexy white? I wrote Play-Asia and they confirmed that there was no warranty from Nintendo or guarantees about dead pixels from their site. That's all that is holding me back. So jarosh, if you will issue me a similar guarantee I will do so.

Also, eBay your old DS if you're getting rid of it people. Or find someone to sell it to. Gamestop/Ebgames will rape you on launch day for trade credit.

For all you Toronto people, Game Centre will be getting the game in around 1:30 today. They don't know what the price will be but it'll probably be a couple bucks cheaper than most places.

Here's hoping this shows up today...

I'm going to play it right away, but I'm really disappointed that the Lite isn't available in the US yet. I really hate using the original DS to the point where I really almost feel like waiting.

Regarding the Lite, are the viewing angles better and is it more comfortable? Those are the two things that drive me crazy about the original unit...

Yes to both questions. I got rid of the first DS because it was so uncomfortable. With the DSLite, even after a decent amount of playtime, I have yet to come across any problems like that.

Anyhow, NSMB tomorrow for me I guess. I doubt it'll show up today.

My attempt to buy NSMB at Toysrus today:

:::spots a stack of NSMB games in the display case behind the counter:::

Wait 10 minutes for an employee to finally come help me.

me: "Can I get that New Super Mario Game?"
employee: "We don't have that"
me: "Um, I think thats it right behind you."
employee: "Thats the old one."
me: "Nope, I'm pretty sure thats the new one, thus the "New" on the cover."
employee: "Well those are just display items. There's no game inside."
me: "Well why are your display games wrapped in plastic then?"
employee: "Listen, theres no game in there."
me: "Ok, well can you tell me when you'll be getting the game in then?"
employee: "Well I really have no idea, when it comes to Nintendo and release dates, you can probably bank on around Christmas."
me: "Ok, Thank You for making it completely obvious why this company is going bankrupt."

unbelievable isnt it?

yes on both counts. i'm surprised by how comfortable it is -- the slimmer profile really works for it. viewing angles still aren't great, though. it's really noticeable when you've got a relatively dark picture on both screens...one screen will always be washed out.

i hereby guarantee that your ds lite will have pixels. many.

There were videos a while back of someone putting the view angles of a few Nintendo handhelds to the test using a GBA game (Final Fight I beliebe). The graphics on display of the DS and Micro faded away after turning it to the side a bit. The display on the Lite didn't disappear until it was longer facing the camera.

I called Zellers today in my area and they said they wouldn't have it until Tuesday, but then I called my local Walmart and the girl there said they had it in. Yay. I took the bus down there and lo and behold, there's no New Super Mario Bros there. However I do notice that they still have Super Mario 64 DS there. I'm pretty sure when I asked if they had "New Super Mario Brothers for the DS" in stock she just looked and saw Super Mario 64 DS and said yes. The "64" on the cover is pretty small.

Damn you ignorant Walmart employees!

Damn you stupid Nintendo for naming this game strangely!!!

You poor git Zaxxon, I would have been crushed.

I'm hoping Tronix send it out today althought they normally send new releases out on a Tuesday. Should be with me on Thursday, I just know I'm going to play for something like 8 hours straight.

Does anyone in canada have this yet? Civilstrife, i'm looking at you

I haven't looked anywhere yet. I've still got a few school assignments to get done before I pick this baby up. I'm going to be at Futureshop in the old forum today, so I'll scope it out for you.

I tried to find it this morning in Miami, no luck. I want to a Best Buy, they didn't have it. Went to a Target, not there, asked the worker if they have it and she completely disappeared, she never came back. Went to Toys R Us, they don't have it in yet.

Anyone know if any stores in Miami have it yet.

I got lazy and ordered it off best buy for $29.99 + 99cent shipping (why isn't shipping free?). It's out of stock, hopefully because they haven't received any yet.

edit: Oh and sticky please!

I just picked up my copy from the Nintendo World Store around 1 pm. There was a short line (7 people maybe?) but it looks like they had a lot of copies behind the counter, probably more in the back.

Played through a few stages on the train--it's fun, but I'm sure the first few stages aren't really the meaty parts of any game, so I'm looking forward to playing more...

This morning, Dbish and I:

-Ran to Circuit City to get a print ad with the $27.99 price (they weren't getting the game until Thursday!)
-Went to Best Buy, asked the clerk to check the back for us. (they just got it in)
-We pricematched down.

I just sat down with it for a little while and beat the first world (complete with all but one secret path and 3 stars at every location.

Impressions:

Holy shit. I thought I'd come to loathe Mario platformers because they were getting old: NOT TRUE. I'd come to loathe them because it's been fifteen years since we've gotten any significant amount of new content. The new abilities in this version are pretty cool, sure, but what makes this game stand out is its emphasis on fun gameplay that breaks down big tasks into one-pit-at-a-time little ones.

The game scales magnificently, and I really do feel like I'm sitting down playing SMB 4. It's really got a lot of the mainstay stuff from SMB1 with the oddball fringe perks (toad houses, branching, P buttons, etc.) of SMB3. I can't believe how much I'm enjoying this, and hardly at all because of the nostalgia factor. This is just a good game.

So if you were wondering what would have happened if Nintendo had never made Super Mario World, but instead made a successor to SMB3 along its lines, you'd probably get something like New SMB.

Oh, and the graphical flair is just killer. Can't wait to sit down and hammer out some serious multiplayer. Get back to you on that later.

Tried to find one during lunch time, I checked the Doral's WalMart and Circuit City with no luck :(

That's the point where you should have said "Oh really, let me look at it" and then when he handed it to you, knock over a few magazine racks and flee the store while the clerk is distracted.

So I don't have time to read through all the bs. If I stop at Best Buy will I be able to pick up a copy of this? Yes or No.

Maybe.

Hmm, called around, everyone's saying tomorrow. Gamestop, of course, tried to get me to reserve...

game crazy won't have it til tomorrow -- i've got it preordered there. but i'm going to call best buy in a minute. new mario!

vgp just changed my order status to shipped. Knowing them, the shipping usually takes 3~4 days to Europe, should have it by the weekend *dance*

any europeans on the fence about importing, videogamesplus.ca got it to me with a final price of 39.9566 Euro including shipping, EASY don't pay local the lag time blows. I would love to find a place with free worldwide shipping, but dvd boxoffice is the only place I know and I'd rather stick my balls in a grinder tbh.
