The Official New Super Mario Bros. Wii Thread

Super and/or Mini Mushroom.
Yeah, Mini Mushroom. Mega Mushroom has been taken out for obvious multi-player reasons.

PS I've basically finished that Castle theme... except it didn't turn out anything like was requested haha. I'd need to go back and try another melody etc to make it more appropriate to the demands :P

Hmm. I swear somebody said there was a
10th world
somewhere in one of the two NSMBW threads. If only I could find it...

Pretty sure that was just speculation. Besides, as I was saying to Tathanen yesterday, Mario is traditionally eight worlds, and this game plays on tradition heavily.

Eh, actually, I think Mega would have been more useful in multi, especially for competitive play (knock everyone else away!) Though it'd have to be a single instance item, and not handed out to everyone.

In NSMB, it grew stale extremely quickly, and was never really used as anything other than a free pass over certain kinds of worlds.

My attempt at a castle theme:

(Crank it up! =P . . . it sounds more suitable to a New Super Mario Land or something haha.)

Yeah... I guess you're right. About everything you just said =P

I don't see this one, help me out?
Second major flash region (shows power-ups) click on fire flower (includes many other low-level "power-ups"), the third region demonstrated the barrels. EDIT: Beaten!

The way it works is that everyone starts off with the same amount of lives. If one person dies, the others keep playing until there's one left. If everyone dies, it's a game over. If someone has zero lives and a player hits a 1UP mushroom, then everyone will get an extra life and the person who had zero lives will appear in a bubble and have at least one more shot at the level.

Of course, you could always use that person as a platform if their bubble is placed over a gap. :D

Maybe I'm thinking about this too hard? But let me get this straight. So everyone has the same number of lives(say 4) starting off. Even if the other players die, if there's still one person with a life left then they still come back, right?

*cough* Metroid Prime Triology *cough*

Ugh I know! I know it's stupid to care about things like that, but that kills me, I still haven't bought the trilogy and that's one of the reasons, I still have Prime 3 though and have played the first Prime, I'll probably pick it up eventually though and just bite the bullet.

I had sold off the first Prime originally—back when game money was a bit more scarce—and absolutely loved playing it again. Such a well-crafted game, and it really works very well on Wii, much better than I expected it to.

Echoes I'm trying again (I fizzled when I last owned it) and Corruption is almost totally new, so that made a great deal for me, slightly-awkward steelbook or no :)

EDIT: OMG!!! . . . Guess who!?

M...Mario? Did you mean to link to that part of the video, or have I gone blind? I see
Lakitu
at the end of the video if that's what you're talking about, though I'd already known they were in.

I kind of like differently colored/shaped games in my collection. Looking at my NES collection, the only two "off" games I have are the gold Legend of Zelda and the Tengen-shaped cartridge Alien Syndrome.

I think he's talking about (I think it's) Iggy's balls.

Ditto. I like the uniqueness this will give the game's feel.

They're Lemmy's.

the sound quality (especially the sound effects) in those new videos is frickin' amazing. i really really dig what they did with the sound effects. they're very clean and sharp and have just the right amount of oomph.

I was going to say the same exact thing. Mario's power-up noise never sounded so good.

Does the vehicle... look "cuter" then normal? That's pretty funny.

Edit: I really like the CVG review. Made me excited. Also, they didn't have "hey 2d title it should be downloadable and cheap" syndrome.

Spike TV"s GT-TV is have a Nintendo Special in about an hour (12:30 AM).

New Super Mario Bros Wii should be the headliner.

This time for real :lol

Clearly the Koopa Clown Car Jr.

The North America site apparently has a lot of new videos, almost 20 minutes worth.

For the lazy, Go Nintendo put all of the videos into two Youtube videos (though some parts did not upload correctly).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yZXOH74lmM (when it freezes, skip to 4:30 and later, 8:25)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIF6exgNCM0 (when it freezes, skip to 2:30)

Also, I didn't see this, but apparently the North American site revealed the first 6 worlds. It isn't that big of a spoiler, but does the desert always have to be the second world? I like the Desert World, and if it were later in the game, it'd be harder...

Also, I can't tell what some of the worlds are...

Edit: I have a fear... All of the videos are 16:9, and yet, in multiplayer, characters are scrambling trying to keep up. What about poor, lowly people like me with 4:3 screens? Playing multiplayer would certainly be harder.

^ Hmmm... can you let us know how spoilerish they are?

Yeah, I agree. My preferred order would probably be:

  1. Grass Land
  2. Mountain Land
  3. Forest/Jungle Land
  4. Water Land/The Sea
  5. Desert Land
  6. Ice/Snow Land
  7. Cloud Land/The Sky
  8. Lava Land/Bowser's Badlands
  9. ???

Although ideally, I would combine some worlds, making them much longer, and add in quirky worlds, upending tradition a bit:

  • Grass/Forest Land (Larry Koopa)
  • Water/Tropical Island/Jungle Land (Wendy O. Koopa)
  • Underground/Catacombs Land (Iggy Koopa)
  • Ice/Snow Land (Morton Koopa Jr.)
  • Toy/Candy Land (Lemmy Koopa)
  • Desert/Pipe Maze Land (Roy Koopa)
  • Boo's Ghost Land (King Boo)
  • Mountain/Sky/Cloud Land (Ludwig von Koopa)
  • Outer Space (Bowser Jr.)
  • Bowser's Badlands (Bowser)

Watching those two ********** Youtube videos, are there really segments with no music and just environmental sounds? Not that I'm in the same boat as the people who hate the music style, but that strikes me as... kind of cool and a nice change of pace. I sorta have the feeling they "broke" the Super Guide footage on purpose, though. :lol

That fortress/castle music is awesome, too.

How much do they give away?

They might spoil a secret or two in the earlier levels that you may have otherwise found on your own, but otherwise, they're just levels in environments already featured in old videos.

I think one of them is showing a multiplayer battle or something, though. It looked fun.

I also liked the segments with no music. Moments like that in games really stick out to me.

They often record game footage without music so it's easier to edit for trailers and the like, I think that was the case here.

For all the talking the characters do, I'm glad the Yoshis don't grunt when they flutter-jump. The sound is a lot more like the original Yoshi's Island one.

Thanks.

It'll be interesting to see whether those non-music parts actually do contain no music.

Why does it have to pause when someone gets a powerup/hit? Makes sense in 1P but not in multi.
Well... I got used to the "event pause" in 1p on the DS, and I think I'll get used to it in 4p, especially since I'll want to have extra time to be aware of what everyone else is doing.
