The Official Ryu ga Gotoku 3 Thread

They've also announced that the series has sold 3.2M copies worldwide. And RgG2 just re-ntered the top 30. Too bad Kenzan didn't do anywhere as well. It's actually my favorite in the series.

Anyway Sega announced that it has achieved half-million sales.

Good for the team!

http://translate.google.com/transla...-ga-gotoku.com/news/index.html#89&sl=ja&tl=en

It's 500,000 copies shipped domestically, and 3.2 million copies shipped worldwide.

If you add up the Yakuza series SALES in Japan (http://www.japan-gamecharts.com/ps2.php) on the PS2 that adds up to about 1.5 million sold. If we assume the sell-through rate is 70%, that means that the total shipped for Y1 & Y2 in Japan is 2.2million. Add the 500K for Y3 and you get 2.7million, leaving the remaining 500,000 units for the rest of the world...

On the bright side, they are supposedly having plans to reward followers of the series.

I should really stop screwing around and just beat it already. :lol

I did pretty much the same and took a long ass time in between story just to run around and beat people up and just have fun. I'm 50hours in and now i'm going for my second playthrough (which i'll hopefully understand the storyline this time lol)

I just like chatting with the ladies, which unfortunately for me to have a good time since I like spending big, requires too much money, which in turn has me beating up people for more money. :lol :lol

I'm currently playing the Ultimate Fighting mode and having problems with the "movie set stage"
I'd need help with the 3rd step
1st knocked down the guy with he pistol, then I sliced the 3 guys in half
now I don't what's the next step
anyone can help?
Miburou? ;)

also, any good strategies for the tranny and her two friends? 0=) =D

How much did the original release of Ryu Ga Gotoku sell in Japan? I can only find it's The Best sales.

From the link above, RgG1 sold 345K and The Best version sold 485K for a total of 830K. RgG2 sold 575K and The Best version sold 225K for total of 800K. If RgG3 has legs similar to 2, it could end up selling 600K total. Too bad the Kenzan re-release doesn't seem to have sold much.

I was planning on playing that, but then RE5 happened. :D
I'll check it out and reply back if I can be of help.

As for the trannies, if you improve your running by playing Mack's mini-game, you should have no trouble with them.

Already kicked the tranny's ass, but thanks. =)

Regarding the movie set stage - I'm not at home right now, so I can'tcheck - but it must be in the 4th line, the 3rd stage on the "mission select screen".
Would highly appreciate it if you could help. =)

BTW, if Kenzan equally playable for someone who does not speak one word japanese?
Even though I did not understand everything regarding the story etc, I only got stuck once or twice.
Everything is very straightforward and you always have a mark on your map so you know where to go and often also what to do.
I managed to get through all the dialogue by trial and error.
So, is Kenzan the same?
Or more complicated so one might get stuck more often?

Hey, sorry about the really late reply!
Regarding Kenzan, I found the story actually easier to follow than that of the main series. If you had no trouble getting through RgG3, then you should have no trouble with Kenzan. ThePatrick has a pretty nice FAQ for the game, too.

Regarding the movie set stage, I tried it a couple of times but didn't finish it. If I do, I'll reply here.

But what you need to do is follow the director's orders. First you need to fill your hear gauge, and target the guy with the guy and do the gun reversal move (triangle). The second order is to have the sword out and press triangle when you're running between 4 or more of the enemies (with the red gauge) on.
The 3rd one you need to stun an enemy (triangle when he punches) and then press triangle for the dragon king move (red gauge too).

French Import Review : 6/10 They gave the first and second one 7/10.

Their conclusion : "Hard to conclude on Yakuza 3. On one hand you'll flay to the weak technique, the unfulfilled promised, the lack of fluidity between fights and walks, the many unnecessary cut scenes and the flow of the aventure. On the other, you re takeway by the charisma of the hero, the many minigames (some are very good), you re often just talking a walk in the beautiful but insufficent streets just to kick some yakuza's ass.
What should have been the nextgen technology demo from Sega end up dissapointing as the experience of the game results of your graciouness. If you dont care about realism and just play the game for what it is, Yakuza 3 will be a good investment. If you cant stand the useless backtracking and the flow of the scenario (throwed away by the too many cutscenes), just walk away.

+ an absorbing atmosphere
+ dynamic and violent fights
+ lots of side activities

- lots of collision bugs
- the physics engine is below average
- too many cutscene which break the flow
- the pathetic orphanage part

They also review the last Shining Force DS (8/10, very positive review) but i cant seem to find an official thread.

Thanks for all the info. I guess I will order Kenzan asap. =)
Regarding the movie set stage - I already found out the first two steps by myself. =)
So, for the third step, I have to stun an enemy by pressing triangle? Won't I do a heat move then?
I will I have to do this without being in Heat mode?
And by stunned you mean when the enemy is seeing stars, I guess...
So, triangle again when I stunned him...
Will try right now, I think.
If it turns out I'm too stupid or need help with the next step, I'll ask you again. ;)
Again, thanks for your help, my friend. =)

You can also dizzy an enemy by locking on and pressing circle as they're punching, and then triangle while they're dizzy (with the gauge red). Then there are two more moves to perform to finish it (and get an S). You might want to figure them out yourself, so I've spoiler tagged them.

The fourth is near a wall and with your sword out next to an enemy. The fifth one when you're holding one enemy and then smash their head into that of another nearby enemy.

Funny, I thought the game had not enough cut-scenes. And how can you backtrack in a game set in two open cities anyway?

thanks, didn't even know about the counter move - pressing circle when enemy attacks

are you sure about the fourth move?
doing the sword move at a wall - resulting in sticking my sword through an enemy's hand - does not seem to do it...

Sorry, I think I forgot one move before that. You need to press down on the d-pad so that Kazuma lights a cigarette, and press triangle to do the cigarette-in-the-face heat move. And then you do the other two.

Judging by this thread, Sega is probably right in not bringing this over state side. Even Otacon seems to have given up hope. :lol

Well, I finished 118 missions out of 122, but unfortunately I don't think I'll get the last 4, though, since they require you to do well in bowling, billiards, the batting center and golf, which I didn't really like. Too bad since I wanted to fight that Amon guy. I already finished all 20 hitman missions, tried all the food items, and did 74 out of 88 heat actions. Also did all the kyabakura girls.

There's way too much stuff to do in this game. The underground tournament is also a pain in the ass, since the last opponents take multiple tries to encounter.

I think I'm done with this game. Still 85% done and over 150 hours of gameplay are not bad!

I'm not posting because I'm too busy playing the game!! :lol

RGG3 took me by surprise really, and in fact it is the only game I play nowadays. Also it has kept me away from playing Killzone 2 and Gundam vs Gundam Next, which if you told me it was going to do that some months ago, I'd laugh at you pretty hard.

I'm still on Chapter 4 just screwing around really, and levelling up Kiryu (yes I know, if I progress the game further he levels up faster but eh). I just get a kick whenever I throw someone off a bridge or down a flight of stairs. :lol :lol :lol

After playing this game (well technically I'm still playing it), I'm not really hyped for any other game this year, it'll take a lot to replace RGG3 for me this year, my frontrunner for GOTY.

EDIT: Not to mention the free DLC we keep getting every week, give me more Karaoke songs!!!

I just got the game yesterday, up to Chapter 2 so far and enjoying it although can't wait to get away from the orphanage kids heh

Before I quit playing I found the hostess club that I guess you can help run / staff later on, so that could be a lot of time well wasted.

Anyone played Hard-EX yet? I'm working through it on Hard, in the hopes I will one day get platinum on this game, just curious how hard it actually gets.

That's what I wonder too. yakuza 3 was absent from e3, and it makes me fear for the possibillity of this game releasing in the west.

I recently got this (yeah I'm late to the party) but I'm planning to dig into it this weekend. I've been following this thread so I think I know what I'm in store for.

There's a great FAQ over at gamefaqs, and I'd be willing to help out as much as I can. It's a really cool game that deserves to be experienced (aside from the the slow start).

What to do, what to do. The wife is leaving Japan on Sept. 27th and TGS is on the 26th and 27th. I should be a good husband and stay in Osaka and say farewell, but I really friggin wanted to go to TGS! Why oh why did she buy the tickets for that day...

I want my copy signed and I want to see is that tan really that dark IRL.

Well, you could always import and use the guide on GameFAQs...

I was thinking in this option, but I have never played like that before and I don't know if I will like to play with a guide, looking constantly from one side to the other.

It isn't very... slow?

Thank for the suggestion!!

I've just bought Yakuza 3 (and kenzan)

P1010708.jpg

A friend of mine wants to jump in and play it togheter with me. But he never played Yakuza 1 & 2. I need great videoes who show the story of Yakuza 1 & 2 (but not actually 10+ hour long video showing the whole game.)

I looked at youtube, but it's hard to sort the good from the bad. Any links would be greatly appreciated.

Did Mitsuo (the "black" orphan) just say that he doesn't feel repulsed by Riona's burns because he has burned-looking skin all over? Seriously, did I just hear that in this game?

Wow.

If you can find a copy of Yakuza 2, it has a recap of Yakuza 1 at the beginning.

I berieve the intro to RGG3 sums it up some too, though not in English.
