• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

The Order 1886 will run at 30fps

Then I hope when they finally show gameplay the main mustache dude isn't running around with two stupid AI partners the whole time. Co-op only makes everything better.

Not every game has to be Multiplayer.

Lots of us like playing Single-Player games.

It works in movies because there is motion blur, which is expensive to simulate in software.

There have been some really good implementations over the years, but nothing consistent. Kinda sad since it has the potential to improve perceived smoothness by quite a bit.

I'm actually really looking forward to Dark Souls II because of this, as the new engine features some extremely well done object motion blur.

"Cinematic Framerate"

"Liquid 30fps"

Dat P.R....

I am sure they can do 60fps easily. Its not an open world game. They can easily optimize it with the PS4 tech. Either they don't know how, or they don't care.

Ill probably pick it up on severe discount, but that is mainly because I love open world games over any linear shooter anyday.

He isn't saying "cinematic framerate". He's saying cinematic look --which will prioritize lots of effects-- so they will only be able to reach a target of 30FPS. As in they are prioritizing graphics over framerate.

"Liquid 30fps" ... yeah that's spin.

My, friend, SURELY you know a developer can choose whether they want 60fps or added graphical fidelity. This goes for ANY system; ANY game. This developer chose added graphical fidelity.

Hopefully they did, we have yet to see any video of the game yet.

Can someone who reads German see what "liquid" originally was in the interview? That reeks of Google Translate confusion.

It was 'flüssige', which in the context would probably be better translated as 'fluid', since while the translation is literally 'liquid' when you do a EN-DE translation the top result is 'flüssig'.

tl:dr - 'fluid 30fps' is probably a more apposite translation.

It seems a number of people on this thread don't realise that 'liquid' is the google translate of the comment.

The confusion comes the "p" names generally being used to refer to fullscreen 16:9 resolutions. 1080p = 1920x1080, 900p = 1600x900, 720p = 1280x720, so on and so forth.

The Order runs at 1920x800, a 2.4:1 aspect ratio with black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. (It does have progressive scan and 800 lines of resolution, but that's not necessarily "800p" in the common usage.) This is better for the overall clarity of the game since there's no blur introduced by stretching the image, like there would be for

Yes.

Full HD = 1080p = 1920x1080
The Order 1886 = 1920x800
HD+ = 900p = 1600x900

It has more pixels than the typical 900p.

Beyond looked alright with letterboxing. It's not the end of the world.

Beyond is one of the, if not the best looking last gen game

No reason to insult our intelligence with his reason why, but 30fps is just fine. I don't think anyone expected 60 frames per second anyway.

24 fps doesn't divide evenly into the refresh rate of most displays, that's why.
Thanks for the sensible reply buy I was kidding =)
Let's see

24FPS joke - Done
Liquid Snake reference - Done
Not really 1080p - Done
Give me 1080p/60FPS or give me death - Done

Well I have no reason to read this thread anymore.
We can bang out these threads in record time. Get the mods to flex a little bit.

The trailer for this actually has some excellent motion blur. As long as we get 1080p IQ, locked 30, and high quality motion blur I'll be satisfied. I'd love 60 all the time but I know it isn't happening but motion blur can go a long way in making games look smoother.

I'm not sure you understand. This game from the first second we've heard of it has had black bars and lens simulations. They're going for a film-like look. You may not like that or some other people, but that's the look they're going for, and it's not because the PS4 is not powerful enough. The point is that the image will be just as sharp as any 1080p game on your TV. It's native resolution. As a plus for the developers, the black bars will also allow them to have even greater graphical fidelity.

Sorry but really do you think it has black bars for this? Eeerr. They simply can't output more pixels because they can't without great compromises. Don't be naive.

Rad: revolutionary new soft body dynamics system taking a step out in front of every other studio and using techniques that are actually next gen.

Neogaf: lol 800p/30 fps.

How very disapointing.

Or it's poor translation from the original interview.

Can't make much else from the google translated original interview. Something-something-destruction something. Also, looks like he is confirming that it is single player only.

Yes it is single player only !!! If you guys want more information i can somehow write what he meant and what he said ;)

he said : We want to introduce a new IP with new Heroes and new Characters. Nevertheless: the PLayer himself will just control one Character: Gallahan

Hopefully once people see the destruction and physics in action it'll make more sense. I can't really fault anyone for being annoyed without seeing the game in action yet. I never expected more than 30 but I've been following this game closely. Most probably don't know about the destruction and physics yet.

Most? Possible, but I don't know about. If so, most people will have the same problem watching Blu-ray movies.
So, in any case.. 24 fps equals to a cinematic Blu-ray experience. Yay! ;)

This is how great google translate can be:

play3.de: In the first overview documents that you have provided to us, but there is talk of a total of four protagonists. If it was not a co-op mode obvious?

There you go.

I'm curious how much it affects gameplay. It's worth it if the gameplay feels new because of the physics stuff. I wonder how much more advanced the physics are than what we've seen from inFamous:SS.

He kind of dodges the question again, saying that it was a demo of single player and that more information on MP is coming at a later date.

Yeah. I guess interviews are not going to reveal anything we haven't heard already. We need a leaked preview/video, not an interview. :/

Should just lock it at 24fps, add more particles. Perhaps depth of field with yet even more fields to be blurred. Blurred like the lines of video games and movies. Which this game will cross.

Meh. Considering this and the resolution they're rendering at (1920x800?) I'm expected some wizardry. Now just give us some gameplay footage.

I had no problem with the black bars on Resident evil 4, or for the many films that I watch at home. I don't see a problem with RAD DECIDING to have them. Im just curious as to how the game plays can't wait.

Hopefully they did, we have yet to see any video of the game yet.

Well, they had to have. They didn't choose to go with 60fps, so that means they chose graphical fidelity over 60fps.

Sorry but really do you think it has black bars for this? Eeerr. They simply can't output more pixels because they can't without great compromises. Don't be naive.

By the time the game releases, there will have been a year and a half between the reveal and release. That's PLENTY of time to optimize the engine without bars. What on EARTH makes you feel so sure that the PS4 can't handle their engine without black bars? Naive? When so much else is dictated by a film-look, is it really THAT out of the realm of possibilities that a developer to choose to have black bars to FURTHER enhance the look they are so obviously going for? I'm not being naive; you're being cynical - maybe even irrational.

so you think this is good news ? you like black bars and 30fps ?

if you want a ps circlejerk without criticism go to the psforums

I know people want to ave a giggle at the cinematic comment, but his statement had nothing to do with the framerate and everything to do with them wanting "spectacular effects and highest resolution."

inb4 no shit

This is all music to my ears. The team putting 100% into the single player campaign means they're striving to make sure it'll be as good as it can be, with no time and resources being allocated to co-op or multiplayer. Good stuff.

For fucks sake, this has been discussed to death. It was announced EARLY in development that this game would run in that aspect ratio. Do you honestly think that they couldn't have targeted 1080p when they first started making the game? Really?

i guess youll play this on your pc eh

Obviously not. But we won't have to worry about the graphics or level design being worse because they felt some unnecessary need to get 60fps.

Although I do have problems with the crappy resolution they're using in the game.

This game looks interesting. Might make it onto my short list of budget purchases when I eventually get a PS4 when my PS3, Wii U, and PC backlog is mostly cleared (2019 or so at this rate).

That´s bad. I can´t remember a single game in which i thought "oh, this would be better at 30fps". It´s just a shame that it has to be like this in order to achieve the visuals they want.

Nobody benefits from this, 60fps is better no matter how they try to spin it.

just give it a rest

it is like talking to a boulder (don't harm your nerves)

It's an unorthodox choice, but a lot less crappy than the alternatives.

I can: Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, because that game runs at a wildly varying unlocked framerate that introduces a ton of judder. Also Dark Souls, but that's only because unlocked and running it at 60 messes with your jumps and running speed.

If you're talking about the resolution then I think it's better than 720p but worse than 1080p. I don't see the benefit of added cinematic effect personally.

Hmmm so they're going with 30fps because it's more cinematic
That's the joke.

Honestly expected since presentation is this game's core feature. As far as I've seen anyway. I'm fine with 30fps here.

But hey, they could always go for 8fps for that classic old-timey moving-pictures look.
