The PlayStation Vita In 2011-2012

It's a portable, the weight is really key
This 10x. Original PSPs biggest flaw was this "feature" - It was stupidly heavy - and if people were overjoyed that it feels "expensive" I sure wasn't when it came to actually carrying it around.

Yeah. Weight trumps even size, IMO. I'm much more willing to put something like a Vita in an inner jacket pocket if it doesn't make me walk lopsided. :)

If the batteries weren't in, however, that would have a significant effect on how it feels – probably up to half of the total weight is battery.

PS3 cases complimented artworks brilliantly because of them being transparent. That, combined with the black ps3 strip at the top, was an excellent canvas for artwork to shine.

Giving the cases a blue color will always affect the appearance of the cover art.

But hey, at least it's not green :)

I agree, those are the main reasons why PS3 cases looks so nice and classy. That being said, dark blue is still a pretty good background colour imo. Take the Gravity Daze cover for example, the blue is dark enough not to take your attention away from the lovely cover art.

I totally agree.
Also, I hope that blue plastic isn't too cheap.

I like that packaging, I really do.
I hope this game is good, because if so, Day 1. Yeah, should seriously clear out my backlog of anything important until then. Fortunately it's not big.

On the whole weight issue, it's so weird. People want light devices but then complain about the SGS-II feeling cheap because it's so light uses a plastic back. Plus the gorilla glass screen feels more like plastic than a hardened saphire glass one too. That plastic is nice when you take out your cell after it's been out in freezing -10°C seems to be of no value to any reviewer *shrugs*

All the Shinobido games were butt ugly but played good, if this one follows the same route then would should be in for a fun ninja-packed romp.

The game will carry a ¥5,980 price in its package form and ¥4,980 price in download form. This is a bit higher than the ¥4,980/¥3,990 of Army Corps, but Square Enix once again charging less for the download version, which is common practice for the Japanese PSP (top retailers discount games by more than 10% and give rewards points, so the difference usually ends up being negligible).

The Vita version carries the same price as the PSP version.

Even though both of their Vita games look like slightly updated PSP games, I'm glad they're coming to their senses and not attaching the SE tax. Good jon.

Poster was up at the local electronics store last weekend. I'm still not really sold on getting one. 24,980¥ isn't a whole lot though. Hrmm.

There's rumors about a lot of things.

True, but up until yesterday, almost everyone had given up hope of PS2 titles making it to PSN anytime soon. The games appearing on the store now does seem rather delicious.

Back at the Tokyo Game Show, NTT DoCoMo announced a couple of pre-paid 3G cards for use with PlayStation Vita. Portable gamers could pick up 20 hours of standard 3G use for ¥980 and 100 hours of standard 3G plus 3 hours of high speed 3G for ¥4,980. Sony will be including the latter as a freebie with the first 500,000 3G model systems.

There's an even better plan for those who plan on taking their Vita online frequently, as shown in a pamphlet promoting Vita 3G plans.

For ¥5,460 a month, you can get unlimited data through your Vita. This is the same "FOMA high speed" access that's included in the 3 hours bonus time with the 100 hour pre-paid card. It offers 14Mbps download and 5.7Mbps upload, far above 3G's 128kbps/64kbps speeds.

Different from the pre-paid plans, the unlimited high speed plan requires a monthly data contract. The plan will also be available as a sliding ¥1,000 to ¥5,985 plan, where the base fee is ¥1,000, and you get charged for use until you reach ¥5,980, where you can continue with unlimited use at no additional charge -- this is a typical option for data plans.

This unlimited high speed plan are actually just a standard DoCoMo data offering which is available for other devices. At the Sony press conference, DoCoMo said that its various data plans would be available to Vita users, but this is the first time we're seeing something other than the pre-paid cards marketed to potential buyers of the system.

A ¥5,460 monthly plan is stuff of nightmares and heart-attacks, but at least having a "sliding" plan that adjust according to usage seem reasonable for power (rich) users.

No point for Project Mirai news on this forum anymore. Who wants chibi region-locked Miku when you can have full size region free ear bleeding Miku?

Personally, I don't want either.

There's rumors about a lot of things.
But now that rumor seems a lot more realistic. Quite logical actually.

Can't I just use the blue tooth to pair it with my phone like the PSP Go? Who the fuck would spend $50/mo just to use a console online sans actual gaming?

You know, I'm on the same boat, unless we uncover something new when the Vita is released, I can't think of many arguments to justify this over tethering. You probably won't have access to the GPS, so location based applications will be limited.

(If WiFi positioning can interpret different locations of the phone, that may partially solve that issue too... or something)

you'll have location services but it wont be as accurate, but i dont see a need for the 3g version. I have both pre-ordered but will most likely cancel the 3G version closer to launch. I'm not seeing anything killer about it

Any conferences/meetings coming up that sony would announce the NA/EU release date?
Nothing known so far but I wouldn't be surprised if that teaser trailer Sony had before was Vita related. The EU blog revealed the EU Vita box and built-in games this week, so a release date for EU/USA coming soon would make sense.

Hmm.. the LLP seemed more ps3 related to me with sweet tooth being there. But I guess we will see.

Hopefully at least one of my friends will be able to pre-order the device for me this winter, as it has a fairly solid lineup for launch. If I'm buying the games in stores rather than online initially, do I still need to grab the memory card?

No, almost all games should have space on the game card for at least gamesaves, maybe even for DLC.

How can it be bumped if the there was no date in the first place?

Amazon "bumped" it from a placeholder date of Dec. 31 to a placeholder date of March 31. That's all.

It'll probably be sometime in February or March. Wait for the announcement; I doubt it'll be too much longer.

Is this the first time we've heard of a Free To Play game on Vita?

The PlayStation Vita version of Browser Sangokushi will be available for the system at launch on December 17. But you won't be able to pick up this particular Vita title at retail.

Browser Sangokushi Next will, like its PC counterpart, be released exclusively as a download. Also like its PC counterpart, the game will be free to play, with paid item transactions.

The Vita version promises new general cards and other new features, including features that one might expect of a Vita game. Publisher Marvelous AQL also promises to update the game with additional features post release.

The PC version of Browser Sangokushi has been played by 2.4 million people, Marvelous AQL said today.

This particular game stands no shot at localization.

Just got an email from Amazon regarding my pre-order: looks like the US release has been bumped to April 2012...
That better not happen. It's releasing in December in Japan, so if we have to wait 4 months for it I'll import the damn thing with Uncharted: GA.
