The Power of the Pixie Cut

Pixie cuts look great as long as you've got the right face for it. Natalie Portman looked amazing. Emma Watson not so much.

Nope, not for me. The women in the OP all pull it off extremely well but I've never really cared for any of the shorter hair styles on women.

All about angelina jolie in hackers:

Also think/thought Carey Mulligan pulled it off well:

I would live the rest of my life a blissfully happy man if my wife would get a pixie cut. She's afraid to, though.

Well maybe you shouldn't have threatened her with divorce if the cut didn't work out. Did you ever think of that?

I think this cut really only works on skinny girls with small faces, but yeah, it can look good.

Short hair looks nice on a woman with feminine features. Masculine or androgynous with short hair Im not so big a fan of.

Its too boyish, and it makes for more makeup work than hair work.

I won't provide hyperbole.. I will say though, my least favorite female hair cut by a fair margin.

Except Hepburn... that chick friggin rocked it.

Long is never wrong.

Never works for me. I always think chicks look to much like men with this hair cut for my tastes. Just like high heals and small breasts don't work for me either. The animal brain in me needs to be able to tell it is a woman from far away and that she could feed the kids that we make. Also that she can run and survive a bear attack I guess.

Very rare a girl can pull it off.

I don't think it ever looks good. Natalie Portman and Emma Watson are still pretty with it despite the terrible hair not because of it. They both looked way better once they went long again.

pixie cuts are so hot. But (like skinny jeans) they only look good on really skinny girls.

I always thought Faye Wong was super fine in Chungking Express.

(this picture sucks, but it was the best one I could fined.

She was super fine.

Movie is fucking amazing, too.

About Jennifer Lawrence? I think her cut sucks. She has the face for it, but the cut. Ugh.

Wait, why did your wife get the pixie cut if she thought that people find it unattractive? Unless I'm reading your post incorrectly.

I personally don't like it as I think there are very few women who can pull it off. Audrey Hepburn and Halle Berry did, but I never really considered those to be pixie cuts. Their hair is carefully cropped to accentuate the attractiveness of their head shapes and is a lot fuller than what most consider a pixie cut.

Normal pixie cuts, as seen on Michelle Williams, Jennifer Lawrence, and Kaley Cuoco don't really fit their heads and make them look like prepubescent boys. I don't know why a glamorous actress would want to look like Slim Shady LP-era Eminem, but that's what I get from the modern pixie cut. Do.Not.Lie.

My vote for worst pixie cut goes to Ginnifer Goodwin from Once Upon A Time. What a terrible look she has on that unwatchably bad show.

I wonder if you kind of have to be tall and lean in order to pull this sort of hair out easily.

I think there are plenty of men who like it if its on the right face.

In my experience- even though I haven't had a pixie cut in ages, I still hear from men that I should grow my hair out long. This is probably the top comment I get, followed by "you'd be so sexy if you straightened your hair."

When asked how long I should grow it, I've been told 'as long as possible' or 'at least to your lower back.'

I know other women who have freaked out on my behalf about my haircuts, with concern that my s/o won't approve. And as well, I know other women who don't cut their hair for concern that their s/o or men in general will find them less attractive.

All that to say, I understand why it might seem like men don't/won't appreciate a pixie cut. It's out there, that femininity and being a woman is tied up in your looks.

Emma and Audrey yes, the rest almost 100% no. Very situational and most can't pull it off.
Pixie cuts are still far better than that middle-stage longer cut older women get. Smh

It did NOT work out well for my wife, but thankfully, she figured it out on her own. She's now rocking the longest hair she's had since we got married 10 years ago.

Comparisons.

EDIT: The best that can be said for pixie cuts is that some extremely beautiful long-haired people still manage to be quite pretty even with a pixie cut.

/cries and whipes the tears with my 40" hair

I love Cat Power with short hair:

But really shoulder-length hair is the best. Not as cumbersome as long hair but not as extreme as short hair.

I've never found it preferential to long hair on any girl. Not that it looks bad, but I've never seen a girl with long hair switch to a pixie cut and then feel like she's more attractive to me. Just my preference I guess.

same here. I think every one I've seen go this route has looked distinctly better with long hair.

Sarah Barthel from the band Phantogram has pretty cool hair. It looks like long hair but it's just a tad shorter than shoulder length.
