The Punisher with Thomas Jane is pretty awesome

I've had a quasi-show bible for a Punisher HBO series kicking around in my house and head since I was like 15 or 16. Based on the MAX series, while drawing in stuff from the past three decades of Punisher material. Younger Frank Castle. You get to see stuff like VIGIL and Suicide Run, while there are some of the more dramatic arcs like The Slavers. It'd be a fucked up show.

I want to make my show :(

Didn`t see War Zone because trailers look terrible. I just remember The Punisher had some incredibly bad story and...Travolta. Thomas Jane did best with what he had.

Man, I think I said it in the last Punisher thread but can you imagine the MAX Slavers arc on HBO? Punisher MAX would work so well on cable too. All the MAX arcs could work as a different season.

Could even work in a slight Wire influence where each season, while introducing new characters tells part of the arc from their perspective. Have some episodes where Castle is kinda like a ghost, haunting but not in the forefront if at all.

Marvel are you paying attention??

Marvel doesn't care. The Ideal Punisher movie needs to be written by Ennis (maybe someone overseeing, I'm not sure how comfy Ennis is with screenwriting) and shot on a smaller budget. Scale it down. Not some origin story about how Castle is sad his family is dead/still dead. All the best Castle stories don't dwell on it. PART of the appeal of Castle is similar to how Jason Bateman appealing. Castle is a psychopath. He warns you once and he never regrets pulling the trigger. He finds problem, inserts himself into the situation, complicates it and then unfucks it with a lot of murder.

Part of why Barracuda is interesting is because he's like the Bizzaro version of Castle. He's Castle with a fuckload more issues and less focus.

The movie has its moments, but overall I thought it was pretty bad. I would give it 2/5.

Where can I watch the extended cut of Dirty Laundry ?

Rebecca Romijn Stamos is Joan the Mouse. Riiiiiiiiiight.

The movie had some good moments and scenes but I would not say it was awesome.

Loved the Jane version, he really plays Castle well. And as pointed out earlier, he really loves the character. It comes through in his acting, and of course the brilliant love song to the character that is Dirty Laundry.

Really wish they'd make another with Jane...

Punisher: War Zone did that and extremely well. Unfortunately the movie was a bit of a steaming mess in pretty much every other aspect, but the good parts were damn fucking good.

When I think about it, I find funny that Thomas Jane's was probably a better overall movie and a worse Punisher movie than Ray Stevenson's, which was a *terrible* movie with a terrific Punisher attitude in the Marvel MAX vein. Still, I think Jane did a pretty good job given the circumstances and I'd love to see him reprising the character in a War Zone-like film.

Yeah. Jane is the best Punisher. A more brutal sequel with him in Dirty Laundry-style would be awesome. Who owns Punisher movie rights anyway ?

Just to be fair, they only got the Punisher license back in 2011, it could take a while to do or greenlight something in such a short period of time.

MAHVEL since 2011, along with Daredevil and Blade.

It reverted to Marvel.

I keep thinking that a Punisher TV series could work SO WELL at HBO or any edgy channel willing to give it a fair chance, like Cinemax (which is pulling no punches with Banshee and Strike Back).

Thanks to this thread I dreamt there was a Punisher TV show and it was awesome.

Lol..they were making it some time ago. It was like a gentler Dexter, Castle was a cop who murdered the bad guys at night. Thank God the project got dropped.

.

That's bad. I don't think Punisher could work in their shared universe and with Agents of Shield that universe even extends to tv shows.

Making a tv/lower budget movies separate universe for characters like Punisher, Blade and Daredevil would be amazing, but I doubt Marvel would go for it.

The Punisher's stories are always smaller and almost intimate compared to the grandiosity of Iron Man, Caps and Thor, so I see no reason for Frank Castle not to remain in its own little world withing the new MCU. They could probably do that, or just pull an Agents of Shield and keep him in TV-land.

That's a problem with how the character was written, not the actor. He's bloody Titus Pullo !

Definitely. Not just Titus, but he oozed charisma out of his every pore in Dexter last year too. But I still prefered Jane. He just has easier time slipping into psychotic undertones, instead of just being a badass

Basically echoing the general consensus, but Thomas Jane owned the role of Frank Castle. I was over the moon when Dirty Laundry came out. That film studio actually just put out a pretty good short about Venom too. (Called Truth In Journalism) But yeah, if Marvel makes a Marvel Knights movie now that they have the rights to Punisher, Ghost Rider, and Daredevil back home, Jane has to come back as Punisher.

Don't get me started on Daredevil and Ghost Rider too man. I thought the DC of Daredevil and Spirit of Vengeance were close but just foundation stuff all wrong. People seemed to have ate up the existential stuff in Man of Steel but I think that kinda stuff is definitely more suited for Ghost Rider and to a lesser degree Daredevil. So many great DD stories that could be used too. Pretty much the entire DD run is golden. Bendis, Brubaker etc. Gold.

This isn't Dolph's Punisher, the superior film based on the character. Really enjoyed Jane's one though and it was mostly because I found Travolta to be a really interesting villain. He did it before in Face/off and does it again here, the guy knows how to steal the limelight when he plays the bad guy.
