SQEX has nothing to redeem, because they've been making excellent games this entire time. Their output honestly puts most other publishers and developers to shame. No one seems to get how much they put out.
I think their full list for just 2012 is:
* Hitman Absolution
* Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn
* Bravely Default
* Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D
* Gyrozetter
* Heroes of Ruin
* Gunslinger Stratos
* Dragon Quest X
* Final Fantasy VII (PC)
* Final Fantasy III (PSP)
* Sleeping Dogs
* Deus Ex: Human Revolution
* Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance
* Wakfu
* Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy
* Final Fantasy XIII-2
That's a pretty huge line-up, and we haven't even seen the Lightning Saga event yet, or TGS this year. Only Activision, EA, or Ubisoft release near the same amount of games that SQEX does.
Most of the complaining seems to come from late 20s, early 30s gamers who use SQEX as a punching bag to deflect from the fact that they're just jaded now. XIII was fantastic, and so was The Last Remnant. Star Ocean is on par with any of the Tales of games, and SQEX's portable library is probably 2nd to none - maybe tied with Nintendo.
All signs for the future look bright as well, with Tomb Raider, Versus XIII, FFX HD, Type-0 coming up. Agni's Philosophy looked much better than Unreal 4, and they're already mostly done with the engine from the sound of it. Development times should speed up with the new real time editing options, combined with strategic outsourcing.
They're basically the most exciting video game company out there now, because they're truly an international company. They can bring in people from Eidos, 1st Production studio in Japan, Visual Works, or Crystal Dynamics, and get an international skill set and perspective without even having to look outside the company now. It's pretty exciting, and I think they'll keep putting out fantastic stuff.
