The Saboteur - Hands-on Preview + E3 Trailer

..anyone else excited about this? Just watched the E3 demos, i love the atmosphere and red accents! cars, prostitute clubs, wall scaling, espionage, and the smoky black and white setting. a very film noir feel
 
I'm very interested in this game. Some of the choices Pandemic have made concerning the art have really paid off, the game looks stunning.

I just hope there's a good game to back it up. Time will tell.

It really isn't what I was expecting. What's up with the enemies glowing red and what happend to the stealth.

Red glow has been around for the while. It's a way, I believe, of making enemies and vital targets distinguishable from the monochromatic backgrounds of oppressed areas, and also in distinguishing between friendly targets and enemies, and also of showing when enemies are alerted to your presence. I think so.

And as with many videos, they show off the action. You can tackle most missions with stealth, if you choose.
 
I hope you can turn off the HUD and the red glow. That's almost the only thing thats bothering me. As long as i get the option to play stealthy, then I'll pick this game up.
 
Native German Speaker live in America... and you take people who sound nothing like them. Besides glaring grammatical errors and pronounciation errors.

This game is definitely on my radar. I hope the colo(u)r transitions pan out really well. I'm kind of half-expecting pop-in though. But that may be just so I don't get too excited about it.

Exactly. Basicly it's Mercenaries 2 with a new skin and tons of new features, but the same core gameplay (without the massive sandbox potential, sadly). If you liked that, you'll like this. I've just entered into my 4th hour.

Ugh. I really disliked the actual way that Mercs 2 played - I found it really clunky to control, very sloppy - but thought that this looked way more fluid from the preview videos (on, say Giant Bomb). It looked more Infamous-y - shame that it hasn't turned out that way.

Hmm I've never played Mercs 2 :S I've bought to games to trade in for this... Should probably wait for reviews huh? But 20 bucks is not much dinero :P

thanks man... not wasting my time with this one... ill spend december catching up on games still waiting to be beaten. (i still haven't beaten ace combat 6... and i've had it since 2007! im stuck on the last level)

Please don't, every other collegue of mine says that i'm wrong and they are not seeing the connection between The Saboteur and Mercenaries. Try it before you make your decision - it's just one opinion, i can be totally wrong.
 
Yeah, I think there is a stigma attached to it if you say its "exactly" like Mercs 2.

I hope there's a demo or something. Interested in the era and story, just want to see how it plays.

Given the general consensus that this is being sent to die by EA, I doubt there'll be a demo. I would love one; I'm not sure I can bite on videos alone. And that Mercs 2 comparison really put me off... Anybody else playing this yet? Want to chip in their thoughts?
 
I hope someone from Pandemic/EA reads this. I was going to preorder this game at Gamestop today. However, let it be known that Gamestop has just fucked you guys over & lost a customer :(

Last week or so, one of the Gamestop employees told me that a local supermarket has some dirt cheap 360 games that Gamestop accepts as trade-in titles. Sounded pretty good to me, considering that these new titles were cheaper than Gamestop's used stuff :lol However, today when I call Gamestop to confirm that the titles I bought in good faith (and have already removed the plastic from) was alright with them, they tell me that since my games are from England (for some really strange reason, since I'm in Sweden), and thus doesn't come with our PEGI classification system, they won't accept them. So, no preorder for me. And since I don't have any receipts for my games, I can't give 'em back either. Thank you Gamestop! Assholes...

Might've just as well burnt the money :(
 
This is my last game of the year, so I hope it's good. Mercs 2 was disappointing, but still somewhat fun. So I won't mind if it's Mercs 2 style in WWII.

They've accepted everything except NTSC versions for years, they only recently introduced this change of policy. Bought and traded in BBFC games about a month ago without problems. Guessing it's due to some stupid EU rule. Good thing the UK has adopted the PEGI system. Old games are screwed though. No more trading in £5 games. :(

So yeah, no The Saboteur for me either due to this.

It doesn't seem right that the employees tell customers where to find games to trade-in & then tell them to **** off, does it? :'( If they were aware of this new rule for trade-ins, they should've alerted me of it, tbh. Oh well, their loss.

Granted, I am at fault for trusting them blindly when I hardly know them, and for not keeping a receipt of the purchase (the store might have electronic stuff though) & for removing the plastic before double checking. But still! :D

My god, that looked awesome to me.

I really, really love the design, the slight WWII fantasy, the lead character...

The PS3 version looks technically sound too. I noticed screen tearing but it might come from te video feed.

Assassins Creed II and this one. It's going to be a busy december. 2 Similar games too... :/

It's been that way in Finland for more than a month. I did manage to trade my BBFC games in august though. After that I always make sure the games come with PEGI rating. The Gamestop deals are damn good even if they require the PEGI rating.

I have Saboteur on preorder from them but Im wondering should I change it to Splinter Cell. (I guess this would be possible since they belong to the same campaign)

Probably the same thing here then. They just didn't bother to mention it to me. That's what pissing me off. You should be able to switch preorder games without a hitch to the best of my knowledge if they have the same deal.
 
EA not getting this out by black friday is incredible. It's obvious the game will not perform as well. And to miss it by a week? You couldn't rush it out a week sooner? SMH. Now there will be no deals on it until it bombs in February.

This sucks.
 
Pre-ordered it today. I could not resist.

Why isn't there more hype for this game? It's not the most original product to ever see the light of day but certainly it looks unique enough to gather at least some interest. I feel like this game will be one of those hidden gems this generation. Or it could be a sleeper hit, like the original Mercs was. I hope so anyway.

I will post my impressions once I get my hands on it this week.
 
Climbing mechanics are pretty bad.
Brawling is pretty sloppy, as is the gun play.
And uhh...why can I walk up the Eiffel tower?

I guess if you hated how GTA handled hand to hand combat, you'll hate this more. I think shooting is a step backwards from GTA as well and any other over the shoulder game.
