The 'Scribblenauts Avatars' Thread-The artists have left the building

Blizzard, if you have a graphic that's 78x120, for example, it won't expand the height at all, just the width. My Frog used to look weird and fuzzy because it was 84x120, and then when I linked it on Gaf it would expand out six pixels in width, but would keep the same height.

As others have said, shrink your largest proportion to GAF size. For most of these characters that will be height, so drop it to 120. Then expand or contract the width of the Canvas Size (not Image Size) dialog to 90. Perfect avatars with no fuzz, every time.

Cookie Monster is great, zoo, you're really coming along with this. Boojoh, you've got to jump into the request list, I'd love to see more of your work. That Haggleman is tremendous.

I don't mean to be rude, but you're either confused or wrong, or I'm not understanding what you mean by dimensions. I assume most people refer to width first in their dimensions, i.e. GAF avatar limits are 90x120 (90 width, 120 height).

I just resized the Optimus avatar to test. I put it as 80x120 size (verified in Paintbrush, even, that the size got changed and height is still 120), and used it as my avatar, and refreshed this thread. Instantly, the height went to 135 pixels. I'm practically certain. If your WIDTH is 90 pixels, then height won't scale, though. You can check my avatar as an example of that.
 
They're all so good everyone. Cookie Monster, Kratos and some I'm not sure who they are. I guess I haven't played their games yet. Well, great work everyone. I'll keep checking them out.

I'm doing this like dukerayburn said, and I've no need to worry about NeoGAF changing dimensions. In the end, however, what that matters is that it works.

I'll add some examples:

image A:
width: 300; height: 500
height > width = set height to GAF standard (120px)
new dimensions: w 72: h 120
change canvas size to 90x120: the program adds some blank space to the left and right border. Voilà, your avatar sized drawing.

image B:
width: 500; height: 300
width> height = set Width to GAF standard (90px)
new dim: w 90; h 54
change canvas size to 90x120
The avatar will be very small, but it will be 90x120.

XD You mean you don't have to worry because you're not the one using the avatars that you make? What he said doesn't work...unless using 120 width triggers some crazy resize that I don't know about.

I'm sorry but I throughly check my avatars before posting them. I don't know what you're insinuating there. Go check all my avatars and see if they don't work. :|

As far as I knew, they always worked. :) I just didn't know what you meant by saying you didn't have to worry.

And I'm a moron, I missed that in the second paragraph or so he DID say to lock the width at 90 pixels, and that's exactly the key point I was trying to emphasize. What confused me was this part:

First off, obviously 120 width doesn't make sense. If you assume he meant 120 height, then it still doesn't make sense since the forum would scale the height larger than the max when it fills out the extra six pixels in width.

In short, as long as everyone resizes their canvas width to 90 and keeps the height at 120 pixels or under, it will always work. :D Sorry for any confusion!
 
Are the requests being handled in order? I keep seeing new avs but not for people ahead of me.

That should have meant: you don't have to worry, 'cause all your avatars will be 90x120 (GAF size) after you change canvas size (that's before putting them on the forum). Thus, GAF won't mess with the dimensions.

Vers, Bliz, sorry for the confusion, I did post that wrong. 120 width should not come into it anywhere, I meant 78x120.

Always be sure to keep the weight of your avatar down, though. That's crucial. :lol So whoever claimed Rufus and the Colossus, best be careful.

You mean, 90x120? ;) Or 90x78? 78x120 with 120 height WILL make the height become larger than 120. Specifically, it will become about 138.
 
I didn't notice that when I was having the fuzzy problems, but you've been here longer, so I'll take your word for it. I'll definitely watch out for that.

And just to be safe, that wasn't meant to be snarky. Even though this account looks old, I just started using it. I got in during the real aggressive stage of these console wars and left with a bad taste in my mouth. I only just started posting due to Post 217.

The artists are doing some really impeccable work here. I definitely prefer some styles, but the artistic values are definitely there. Outstanding job, the lot of you.

Artists, if you want to confirm with us that what you're about to work on next hasn't been done yet we'd be happy to help. We know it moves fast, and since you're hard at work in Photoshop you can't watch each page.

It also helps to post your next target so the other artists don't spontaneously start working on the same request. I know those odds are slim, but it's just a thought.

I didn't mean to step on anyone's toes... I just picked one from the most recently-posted list and didn't realize it was already made. It was an honest mistake and I really hope it doesn't detract you from making more.

Trust me, I would much rather spend my time working on something nobody has done yet, especially since these things take me hours to do.
