#1 Godfather Part II

At this point, I had the chance to pick either the FIRST Godfather, or this one. If I want to see the best movie ever made about the old mafia, I'll watch the first one. If I want to see overall a better crafted, more complex, more ambitious, and overall better movie about the downfall of a man, I'll watch the Godfather part II.

#2 La Vita e Bella

5xrv3hz.jpg

tn2_vita_e_bella_4.jpg

A good movie about the Holocaust, it is better known for its charismatic leading character. A heartwarming movie, ultimately about a father's sacrifice for his family, and making light of the most extreme bad situations. Among the best foreign language films.

#3 Singing in the Rain

Singing_3.jpg

Singin.jpg

If I was to include a musical in my list, might as well include an overall great movie, with a great story. There isn't a better movie dealing with that time in Hollywood that we went from silent to voices. This one is simply timeless.

#4 OldBoy

old-boy-writer-update.jpg

oldboy-hammer-fight-corridor-scene1.jpg

What can I say? close to a mind F@#$ as Brazil, gut-wrenching ending, one of the best fight scenes ever, and it leaves a lasting impression on you. That you have to digest for 30 minutes what the hell happened, it is often a sign of a good movie.

#5 Snatch

snatch-1.jpg

snatch-pitt-flemyng.jpg

Snatch-2.jpg

IMO Guy Ritchie's best. One of the most quotable movies ever, memorable characters, funny, good interlocking stories, and it is a prime example of a soundtrack making a movie. You like dags?

#6 Downfall (Der Untergang)

Der_Untergang-Hitler_und_Eva_Braun.jpg

Damn. When I think acting performances, I think Downfall. When I think Germany in WWII, I think Downfall. When I think great movie based on true events, I think Downfall. Great movie.

#7 Traffic

traffic_l.jpg

traffic.jpg

traffic-1.jpg

It was between this one and Blow, but this one is simply the better movie. Great use of colors to tell different stories, it's a good look on the war on drugs, with a clear message about it.

#8 Up

pixar_up.jpg

It was this, Wall-E or Ratatouille, and this one simply affected me more. Great movie.

#9 Die Hard 3: With a Vengeance

My introduction to the series, one of the better duo action flicks, with a cool plot, badass villains, and shit getting blown up.

#10 Rocky

The one that started it all. Rags to riches with a very likable main guy. It's Rocky yo.

I really should make a Gladiator collage. I would for One Hundred and One Nights but with my current dvd player the subs dont work so its very hard to navigate to the scenes I want.

Wait, are we making top 10 lists or voting for the best top 10 lists in the OP?

Doesn't really matter though since no Rocky IV means everyone loses

1. cmonmanreally
Anobyl had a great list with Pan's, Lives of Others, Red, etc, but it is hard to go against Citizen Kane, Toy Story, Silence of the Lams, Platoon, etc.

2. muttyeah416
Ufff hard stuff. Schindler's List, Goodfellas, and Sunset Blvd were hard to let go over personal favourites such as Motorcycle Diearies, The Diving Bell & the Butterfly, The Graduate, Adaptation, etc. I can even say that Scullibundo had the better list for critically acclaimed films. Hard choice.

3. Cyan
Too many (cult)classics to pass by. Wes had great films however.

4. Solo
Seven Samurai alone almost tipped the balance, but many more favourite classics with Solo.

5. cashman
By default it's a win for Godfather I. It doesn't hurt to have Taxi Driver, La Vie en Rose, etc in there.

6. shintoki
Many more groundbreaking movies there. Good list.

7. good list for my adversary

8. Schattenjagger
More mainstream good movies.

1. Anobyl
2. -------
3. Wes. (I really don't want to go up against Wes. I love so many of his films that I will most likely be inclined to vote for him.)
4. Solo
5. yacobod (JUST, it killed me to vote against cashman. Some of my all-time favourites make up half his list. Neck and neck until round 8 and whilst I LOVE TS2, I can't vote against Terminator.)
6. shintoki

I'm not going to smother you guys with a link avalanche, but I feel like posting this because it's awesome:

Roman Holiday: the Mouth of Truth scene. Audrey Hepburn is such a cutie! The funny thing about this scene is that Gregory Peck didn't actually tell Audrey Hepburn what he was going to do at the end, so her reaction is completely genuine. :)

1. cmonmanreally - Anobyl had some good picks but Pan, Prestige and Gangs really pull the list down.

2. muttyeah416
- This was close but Annie Hall, Adaptation, and the Graduate win it.

3. Cyan - Yeah its pretty much just a list of well known classics, but its just a stronger list overall. Also, getting Charade and the best Indiana Jones movie made it even stronger for me.

4. Trellisaze - Solo has Good,Bad,&Ugly and The Conversation, but I'm not voting against Days of Heaven, especially with strong films backing it up.

5. yacobod - It was close, but since I've pretty much decided Taxi Driver and Raging Bull are tied as Scorsese's best, I'm going for the more popular movies for once. Alien and Terminator are what got my vote here, even though pt. I is definitely the best Godfather.

6. shintoki - 2001, Apocalypse Now, Chungking Express, Once Upon a Time in America, etc. DieNgamers just doesn't have the pull for me.

7. Bulla564 - Very close, but Singing in the Rain and a slightly more consistent list tipped the vote.

8. Schattenjagger
- I must confess that I find both of these lists filled with popular movies that I think are overrated. Whats left is Blazing Saddles, Fellowship of the Ring, and Zodiac.

2. Scullibundo (i can't vote against Goodfellas & Aiens, having Gladiator and Almost Famous is icing on the cake)
3. Cyan (Casablanca and Star Wars > ***)
4. Solo (close fight but Vertigo is one of my favorite movies, it was the deal breaker)
5. ------
6. shintoki (2001, Apocalypse Now, Robocop, and Das Boot)
7. Kusagari (i think i like GF2 and Rocky more than anything on your list, but from 1-10 your list is better imo)
8. Schattenjagger (i think this was the easiest choice for me, this match up was very one sided imo)

once again, voting for lists of movies I would actually want to watch more than once, rather than the "must-see list" of music snobs

1. cmonmanreally (Jess James is the worst film of substantial hype I have seen in a long time...I just plain did not enjoy it
2. Scullibundo
3. Literally flipped a coin on this one. I think Inside Man is rubbish, but after seeing The Burbs a year ago or so after not seeing it for about 10, it doesn't hold up well. Very corny (deliberately so?) in some places. Cyan won the coin toss. These two lists overall are the best in the whole draft. Completely filled with watchable movies. No pretense, no hype, just a lot of stellar movies. These two lists should have been up against each other in the last round.
4. Solo (not even close, although Blade Runner is epic of epic!
5. yacobod (quit pimping your list, though. Your movies aren't part of some secret club like Hotarubi's or Trellisaze, although this is probably the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd best list overall)
6. shintoki (good showing though, DieNGamers overall)
7. kusaragi (awesome choices man, Bulla had a great list too)
8. Schatenjagger (not by much, though Vestal. He has 8 movies I would actually watch compared to your 7. very close match overall)

Damn, things are very tough now.

1. Anoybl
Jesse James and Red solidify your list for me, and are two of my favorite froms the past 30 years.

2. Scullibundo
Both of you have some of my favorites on your lists, but Sculli just happens to have slightly more of them.

3. Cyan
VERY close one. Casablanca just tipped Cyan over the edge.

4. N/A
...

5. cashman
Cant argue with Taxi Driver and The Bicycle Thief.

6. shintoki
2001, Magnolia, Seventh Seal? Yes please.

7. Kusagari
Hardest choice of the round. GFII, Der Untergang, and Oldboy just get barely beaten by 12 Angry Men, Clockwork, and Amadeus for me.

8. Schattenjager
North By Northwest and Zodiac earn my vote.

So how come we vote again? (Not American, don't get drafts)

The first draft had 16 matches. The winners of those are now facing off against each other in 8 matches. The winner of those will face off in 4 matches etc. Just think of it like a loser drops out round robin or tournament.

1. cmonmanreally -- There were four picks in each like that I'm rather partial to, but I slightly favor the ones in cmon's list.

2. muttyeah416 -- I haven't seen the Private Eyes, and there are two I'm not crazy about, but this was a pretty easy choice for me.

3. Cyan -- A nicely rounded list, save for a couple unappealing flicks, that just works for me better than Wes'.

4. Trellisaze -- As much as it pains me to go against the Conversation and the Thin Red Line, I've gotta side with Trellisaze.

5. yacobod -- His first six choices sealed it.

6. shintoki -- Come on. ;)

7. -- I don't feel too strongly about either list; I might come back to this later.
