My uncle bought me my first car a couple weeks ago for helping him out with my cousins.

It's a '93 Burgundy Buick Regal Limited.

Not the best looking car, but hey atleast I have a car while unemployed and it's really comfortable inside and fun to drive. That's all that matters atm.

Not the fastest car, but I've loved Mustang's since I was a little kid, so when I saw this on the side of the road with fairly low mileage and for a pretty good price, I had to pick it up. Love this thread...I actually have a question; I've been wanting to learn more about cars, how they work, etc...can anyone recommend some good books/reading material to help with this?

Get the Haynes repair manual for your car if you haven't already.

1998 Ford Contour SVT
WJ7VI.jpg

It was built in April 1997 so it's 15yrs old and has about 180k on it. Has a small oil leak and shifter is a little loose other than that it still runs pretty good.

It's nice to see that there's some modified gaf on here! I can't wait to put my deposit on my next ride in the following year. It's been a SUPER LONG wait.

I am still salty that they changed the RHD importation laws in Canada from 10 to 15 years...

I love these cars! Around 2001/2002 I was searching high and low for a tropic green SVTC but could not find one for the life of me. Two of my buddies had a silver SVT, one had black, and another one had red. No one liked the green except for me. After searching for 6mos, I gave up and moved on to another car. Of course after I got it, a green went up for sale.

Of course all my friends have, in the last couple of years, traded or sold off their Contours. I did own a v6 SE (with E1 wheels) as a DD w/ my RX-8 but got rid of them both for a SEL V6 Fusion.

Just got myself a new bumper and headlights for my 2002 BMW 325i. Will post better pictures later :)

Ignore the mismatched corner lights and seran wrap covering the lights..

That's quite an upgrade.

I used to drive a 1994 Sentra XE limited edition (lololol) around during parts of college before I got my 240sx. That was a despicable, hateful fucking piece of shit. My mom finally sold it to an acquaintance for like 200 bucks a couple of years back. That car was a crime against humanity.

Got this the end of March and I'm loving it so far aside from some gripes about the Bluetooth software they're using.

I should be getting it back this week.

In the meantime my daily driver has been a 90s toyota avensis.

But as for a weekend car, this is it , filmed yesterday to test the Canon D600, the cut is still rough and not so engaging and the ending is corny as fuck.

I wonder how I am as well, haha. Had a lot of trauma to my head/body and nerve damage to right leg. GF had to get her left leg amputated. Car to pedestrian accident (we were pedestrians, drunk driver) on the freeway.

I'm on vortex, don't post much though. Such a shame that they're dropping the color. At least we have some type of "collectors" item now, hahah.

Holy shit...

Amazing that you guys both made it through relatively unscathed. Not downplaying the trauma, nerve damage or amputation obviously, but to be alive after looking at that car and knowing that you were the pedestrians... wow. I think congrats are in order here. Gifts to yourself and your mother well deserved. Drunk drivers, ugh... what happened to the driver?

(I'm an MKV GTI owner myself, good choice and nice color!)

Cousin got a flat on the freeway and called me for help. GF tagged along. I was trying to take off his lug nuts, but the tool kept spinning so I guess it didn't fit properly, not sure if his wheels being aftermarket had anything to do with it. GF was in between my car and my cousin's car, I was kneeling at the front passengers side when the drunk driver hit my car at 90+mph. I was instantly knocked out, but my GF remembers laying on the road/dirt and the ambulance. She didn't realize that her leg was crushed till we got to the hospital.

I think it's not his car, but he bought the 2 cars from the damage settlement.

Yeah that's my car, a Scion tC. The guy was uninsured and his car had no insurance from what I remember. The only settlements we received was from our own insurance companies. Didn't help much considering I had no health insurance and my hospital bill was over $1 million.

The drunk driver got two years in prison. Got out in one for good behavior.

:(

That's an awful story, man. How is your GF holding up? I've heard of people falling into immense depression from stuff like that - my friend's sister had 3 fingers amputated from a car accident 8 years ago and she's still in-and-out of depression.

All the best to you guys.

For about the first year she was depressed, hating life and wondering how this could happen to her when she's been only a good person. She started to lose faith. In addition that we were not compensated fairly, it just hurt us even more. Now it's been much better. Ever since she got her artificial leg/knee, she's been able to do more things and keep a normal life. It will be two years in August, I'm happy that she's more positive and looking forward to when she gets off her crutches. She's a member of GAF! Though she doesn't post much anymore.

Glad you are ok man, welcome to the GTI club. I have a 2011 Red 2 door :)

EDIT: 1 million in hospital bills??? Holy shit....if you don't mind me asking how are you going to handle that? Insurance?

Jeeeeeeeeeesus. I am glad things are getting better for you both.

I hope you don't mind but I am saving a link to your posts in here the next time a drunk driving thread happens.

I had no health insurance when it happened, my Mom applied for me to get Medi-Cal (I was unconscious for about a week). After the litigation was over (6 months after the hospital), the collection calls began. I was denied Medi-Cal, since they thought I didn't have a disability. I was recommended to re-appeal, this time I was interviewed over the phone and explained to him that the nerve damage (had foot drop/floppy foot) and muscle atrophy to my right leg prevented me from doing some tasks (can't run and can't lift heavy loads). Also explained my burning like pain due to the damaged nerves. About another 6 months later, finally received Medi-Cal. It covered most of the bills, I have to call about the remaining. Plus I need another plastic surgery for my head, hoping it's still covered.

Oh and I was debating to get a red GTI, since it matches the outline on the front grill. My choices were Tornado Red, Shadow Blue, and United Gray Metallic.

No problem.

Goddamn, this is an extremely sad story, sorry that this had to happen to you. Props to your girlfriend for moving past it in the end. I am positive I would be wallowing in self pity for YEARS if my leg got cut off when I was just tagging along somewhere trying to help someone. Goddamn.

Did you try suing the guy or your options towards that? I got in an accident when an underage kid hit and totalled my car, we sued his parents and the dad is giving us a chunk of every paycheck he gets.

Goddamn again.

I have a UG myself, an '07. There are just too many cars of that general color now... it became SO popular, at least around here. Originally it was mostly a German thing, you'd see VW, Audi, MBenz, BMW, Mini with that color more than anything, and now it's just every random car that has it. Time to move on for me. You made the right choice!

Shadow Blue GTI

x2. fuck off.
extremely jealous

Don't think I have posted recent pics. TTRS knuckles up next, and hopefully a hpfp isn't too far out.

I'm liking the GTI love here. Got one myself ('12 Tornado Red GTI 4dr Sunroof/Nav) at the beginning of June. I only have a few minor modifications (LED interior lighting, window tinting) with an APR Stage 1 tune. In a year or so, I'm hoping to go K04. :D

Halvie, I recognized your ride before I looked at your username! I was thinking to myself "hey, that car looks exactly like someone else's at golfmk6!"

holy fuck, my condolences man :(

Eh we tried, but our lawyers recommended against it since it could cost us more to go for a civil suit and there's a big chance that nothing would come out of it. He was 18 and supposedly was independent, couldn't get anything or at least that's what numerous lawyers have told me. He does have restitution, like you said, paying us a chunk of every paycheck. The sum of that will probably be almost 2 million. He can still move out of the country and avoid paying it, from what I've read, hoping to see something come out of it though.

In a year or so, I'm hoping to go K04. :D
So lucky, I'd love to go K04, but living in California, seems like I can only go Stage 1 and pass CARB. Nice color by the way.

This thread is now very sad. :(
Ah sorry didn't have that intention, ;\

My 2012 Corolla LE that I bought on July 4th, my first new car ever:
