The silliest names in games

FFXIV the thread. Seriously, look at this list of names (grabbing random ones that stand out):

Alphaniaud
Eynzahr Slafyrsyn
Merlwyb
Byrglaent
Durim Falurim
Dyrstweitz
Ealdgyth
F'lhaminn
Fyrilsunn
H'loonh
J'brohka
K'lyhia

I could go on, but you get the point. I swear it's like they just used a random name generator and took anything they could kind of pronounce.

Melinda Megamelons from Way of the Samurai 4

The ambassador she is protecting is also a little girl named Laura Lita (lolita)

WOW that's awful.

The new trend in sci-fi/fantasy worldbuilding is to be as vague and general as possible, then, when your fanbase fills in the gaps with theories and idea, you appropriate one of them and claim it was your "vision" all along.

It's crowdsourced fiction.

Not really new, Tolkien did it, but it has become a really irritating trope to just take a normal word and put 'the' in front of it.

He's the polar opposite of KOS-MOS, whose named is spelled in all capitals. So his name is spelled with a lowercase.

His name probably has something to do with his role in the game's universe. He's not even human anyway.

Isn't he
God
?

Final Fantasy names can be truly silly.

I think Yuj, Nooj, and Yaag are my personal picks.

Are they names or the description of the gunk in your nose when you have a sinus infection? YOU decide.

Halo 4: Promethean Battlewagon. Dangerous enemy but with that name it's hard to take it seriously. Head canon says its the next upgrade from the Battlewagon unit in Age of Empires.

Shujinko from Mortal Kombat Deception is pretty funny considering it's the equivalent of a Japanese game naming the hero "protagonist".

Isn't he
God
?

No. Edit: Well sort of but not really. I'm guessing you haven't read the Perfect Guide.
God is kind of a loose concept in Xenosaga. His role is to be a failsafe for the universe. In the instance where the universe starts to collapse, he would destroy the Lower Domain (where the game takes place) so its collapse doesn't also cause the Upper Domain (where U-DO resides) and its lower domains to be destroyed as well.

Bob-Omb.
Not Bomb, Bob.
Everybody I know always calls them Bomb-Omb because that is much more natural, but nooo better call them all Bob.

It's not hard, because you're supposed to pronounce it like you're panicking about the fact that there is a bomb in room, like "buh-b...Bo-bomb!!"

FFXI and FFXIV have the most ass-sounding names in the entire series. I once made fun that those games were the only ones were you'd find characters named like someone just started typing random letter keys on the keyboard. Like someone went, "Yeah, hmmm.... Walkduosdn Uslkjdlapo can by one name! Pmase Mrwasdls is another!!!". Even with the annoying Latin thing, FFXV's names aren't as bad. And oddly enough, for how much I hate FFXIII, the names sound like names that would be in FF games.

FF series has had some strange names. I mean, names like Setzer Gabbiani, Zeza Matias Surgate, Kelger Vlondett, Kiros Seagill, Seifer Almasy and such. Not normal, mind you, but not as bad as some of the FFXI and FFXIV names. The more stranger FF names are bizarre in an interesting way. That's how to do the "strange name" thing right.

Philbright Westriverside Warehouserock XXVI from Zone of the Enders: The Fist of Mars

The Japanese surnames Nishikawabata (西川端) and Kuraishi (倉石) translate directly to "west river side" and "warehouse rock", so I'm guessing that whoever named her was inserting a reference to some real people. I know a guy named Higashiōhama 東大浜 who translates his name and one-word-izes it into "Eastlargebeach" on social media.

From the Rance series, Ragnarokark Super Gandhi. And his daughter, Magic the Gandhi.

Monster Hunter give us the Darkness Darkblade. Come on.

M̶a̶n̶c̶o̶m̶b̶ ̶S̶e̶e̶p̶g̶o̶o̶d̶ Guybrush Threepwood.

THRIFTWEED!!!

And the best thing about his first name, is that it stems from Deluxe Paint. When they first drew him, they didn't have a name for him, so they just called him Guy. And it was saved as a brush, which is a tool in DP. So Guybrush was born.

A few names that come to mind....

Gabriel Fucking Hotspur
Wakka
Lulu
Liz and Ard
Centaur Man (Half man, half centaur, and of course a centaur is half man, half oh my god, I've gone cross-eyed).
Snow
Squall

Top Bottom
