The Simpsons: Arcade confirmed by XBOX Achievement

Also, this game was released during an era where licensed games were a lot shittier (except for exceptions like Capcom's Disney games) Remember all those shovelware Simpsons titles Acclaim put out? Simpsons arcade shat all over them in terms of quality and usage of source material.

I always thought it was funny that it was japanese companies (Capcom, Konami, even Data East) did american properties much more justice in the video game realm then american companies.

How many stages were there again? All I can remember is the first level, the amusement park, the woods, dreamland and burns' mansion

and that bonus game was impossible for me as a kid.

Downtown Springfield (Stage 1), Krustyland theme park (Stage 2), Springfield Cemetery (Stage 3), Moe's Tavern (Stage 4), the Springfield butte (Stage 5), a concussion induced dreamland (Stage 6), the KBBL's Channel 6 Broadcasting studio (Stage 7.0), and a dojo (Stage 7.5). Eventually, Smithers retreats to the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant (Stage 8, the final stage).

One of my favorite arcade beat-em-ups back in the day. Hopefully it's priced right at 400 Microsoft Points. 800 would be pushing it.

A lot of the later Konami beatem ups games are actually good, but they have rather nasty quarter-sucker mechanics (for instance, Metamorphic Force pretty much is amazing, but wtf @ having your health drain slowly)

I was at a bowling alley last year (hello, ladies) and they had an old Simpsons cabinet. I got bored of it after 4 quarter refills but had to slog through another dollar. beatemups have not aged well with my taste at all.
Don't hold it against the genre because of The Simpsons. Konami's efforts were comparatively shallow to most.

Considering that all Konami had to pull from was the first season (I think?), this game actually is still pretty cool as far as atmosphere and the use of the source material goes, but it's not a particularly great game.

Cripes, took long enough!

I remember my friends and I hoping they would release it shortly after TMNT: II TAC game made it's way to XBL.

Six years later...

Oh well, I'll take it! :)

Capcom Beat em ups:

Final Fight
Final Fight 2
Final Fight 3
Punisher
Alien vs Predator
Cadillacs and Dinosaurs
Knights of The Round
Magic Sword
King of Dragons
Dungeons & Dragons
Warriors of Fate
Captain Commando
Armored Warriors
Battle Circuit

Konami Beat em ups:

Simpsons
X-Men
TMNT Arcade
TMNT Turtles in Time

Difference being that the Capcom ones are (mostly) good.

Aliens vs Predator and Dungeons and Dragons(Always wanted to try this one), are the last two I'd like to see ported.

I love this game. Too bad I have spoiled myself the past few years with MAME but I will get this regardless. I have always wondered why Konami never made a home port to the SNES and Genesis. This game was mega popular and seems like it was a wasted opportunity for them at the time. Too bad because I am sure many people were anticipating a 16bit release back than.

I was always under the impression that since Acclaim had the console Simpsons license back then, there wasn't ever a console port of Konami's (ditto for X-Men) like there were for TMNT IV and Sunset Riders. It did get a PC and I think a C64 conversion, although I don't know how they compare.

Correct.

This is a pure nostalgia release, or for rabid Simpsons fans who never played it in the arcades. Like Xmen and TMNT, once you no longer have to pump in quarters, you'll find it to be a shallow game.

Dunno I found it pretty fun trying to 1CC Capcom's beat em ups like Final Fight...

Konami's arcade games on the other hand...

Love this game... I'm pretty surprised to see a lot of Gafs reaction towards this thread, both in this thread and the old one. This is definitely one of my favorite beat em ups of all time.

I've always wondered how many Konami beatem ups people played though - seems like their knowledge is limited.

They should just charge you 20 SpaceBucks for every continue to keep it real.

Yeah I'm afraid of this too. I might give it a pass to preserve the awesome memories I have.

I have to agree that while this game is not that great a beatemup it was fun for what it was. The best beatemups will always be stuff like:

Alien vs. Predator
D&D: Shadow Over Mystara
Zero Team
Ninja Baseball Batman
Armored Warriors
B Rap Boys

Capcom Beat em ups:

Final Fight
Final Fight 2

X-Men
TMNT Arcade
TMNT Turtles in Time

Konami wins flawless victory.

So even if Sunsetriders comes out, does being part of Game Room mean it probably won't have online multiplayer?

Also, I remember this game being unbearably long for some reason, so it kind of blows my mind that there's an achievement for beating it in 30 minutes.

It blows my mind as well, considering I looked up some youtube vids and the average is 45 minutes.
Never played the JP version of The Simpsons, I imagine that like X-men it's a better balanced and less difficult game.

Ah here we go

There's also a Japanese version of the arcade machine with a few minor differences. Its difficulty setting seems to be lower, and health ups seemingly a tad more plentiful. You also get much higher scores in the Japanese version, and extra points are rewarded based on how much health you have left after finishing a stage. Finally, the Japanese release allows you to jump while armed with melee weapons, whereas that's not possible in the American version.

Of course. Konami of America sucks so badly sometimes.

Not touching this Konami Vs Capcom beatemup argument but I will say Konami has put out some fine titles like Vendetta.

Just play the trial and you'll get your nostalgia trip.

As awesome as I thought this game was, these super-shallow beat-em-ups don't hold up anymore. (Spider-Man arcade was better).
