The Spoony Experiment

I've been wanting to say something for days, but holy shit... Dude isn't even bothering with the WWE vlogs anymore >.> I could probably do more interesting livestreams than him, and that really is saying something.

I thought those videos were just Spoony sitting in front of a camera for an hour talking about D&D. I don't really watch them since I don't care about D&D.

Pretty much, but for anyone with a passing interest in D&D, they're really good watches. Easy to produce, I guess.

His Patreon is now at 2,6k. He really should do something.
Maybe he just wants to start his day job as a programmer again (I guess, since he studied CS) and stop all this silly "review" business. It can be hard to go back to a normal life after such an experience. Kick the bucket, becoming clean, leading a normal responsible life.

We should encourage him, not tempt him to back to his old way of living.

It's what I enjoyed the most along with Ultima and FF XIII. It was very amazing for roleplaying fans. And some stories were, well, complete stories. Do yourself a favour and listen to Thieves World amazing story.

Maybe he just wants to live an easy life & post shit on twitter all day.

He is pretty active with his let's plays. He uploads them to youtube as well. His playthrough of Until Dawn was pretty fun - he absolutely hated it. I liked the game though.

I mean, he might as well. Wouldn't make any difference for most of us older fans.

It obviously making him a lot less money though. His patreon is racing down.

Man, it's sad to see it turn out like this. Spoony has been my favorite content creator for a couple of years, but he has really slowed his content output since the second half of 2014 and soon the whole of 2015.

It's a shame because the Patreon could give him more of an incentive to make more frequent and well produced content. It also makes me a little pissed off because other content creators would kill for the same amount of cash that he made for a while on Patreon and they are working their asses off, yet Spoony has clearly betrayed the trust of many people by now.

I've been a patron of Lazy Game Reviews for a little over a year now. He's putting out weekly reviews as well as other stuff. Not saying that Spoony should do weekly reviews, but the patreon had so much potential that was wasted and now it seems even the most hardcore patrons are starting to jump off the train.

Again, it's just kind of depressing to see it coming to this.

I actually like hearing his D&D stories, but I'd really like to see some more of his older kind of stuff videos. I was a huge fan years back of Spoony, and I still rewatch his Highlander reviews and stuff like Phantasmagoria and Ripper stuff every now and then.

Kinda sucks that I don't visit his site that often anymore. If I had known that he was coming to FL beforehand, I might have driven out to that coast to get a handshake.

edit: I used to like hearing him talk about wrestling, too. I got tired of that, though.

Yeah, I back Every Frame a Painting he does one all 1-2 months, but the quality is constantly high and he is paid per video, not per month.

Spoony should make separate Patreons for Wrestling, Countermonkey, Lets Play and Game Reviews and set it per video. He could see what is backed up by people's money and everyone would get their money worth.

Yeah, they are also live playthroughs not scripted like Phantasmagoria was. I guess this is what he likes doing at the moment since he is pretty active.

I also can recommend his Let's Play of Until Dawn. Don't know, if he just had a good day, but it was the best Live Wire, he did. You know, actually funny.
He almost saved everybody in his first try.

It's a shame that Spoony doesn't really do that much anymore, i loved his earlier stuff around the time of his twitter breakdown, counter monkeys are good too but all of the other videos he does just aren't as entertaining as they used to be.

You want to see YouTube comments?
I feel like people who say this don't actually read YT comments that are upvoted, and sometimes I like to comment myself.

The "all YT comments are terrible" thing has become more annoying than any YT comment I've read recently.

Disabling ratings and comments why

I feel like I've asked this before

He seems to take them a lot more personally than other YouTubers do, and gets annoyed when people call him out on the lack of content.

Decent enough video, though. I wish he'd review a game again.

Amazing that he came back at all. I thought he gave it up. Hoping for a game soon as well.

Spoony is sensitive, to say the least. But complaining about comments being turned off will get you nowhere. Asking about it on his official forum will get the topic closed faster than you can say "what's a paladin?". Spoony will never, ever, ever set comments on.

To be fair, if you're getting $5k a month in fan donations, it's probably a good idea to put out some content.

Down to under $2.4k now, although I'm confused as to why it isn't much, much lower.

Stuff like that tends to be chiefly interesting to people who haven't donated anything who dislike the concept of donations.

Jim Sterling and Every Frame A Painting have no trouble with their patreons. Sponny wouldn't either if he would work at a reliable pace.

I thinlk this is a new video, Spoony Riffs - Hallmark Safety Training Video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6-izug6Ras

Could be wrong, but I have a feeling that it isn't. It seems dimly familiar.

If Spoony worked at a reliable pace, he might also be the kind of guy who made boring videos.

People are who they are.

As opposed to virtually no videos? The Patreon was the worst thing that could have happened to Spoony in terms of productivity, and I say this as someone who can be kind of lazy/disorganized. If I was getting several thousand dollars a month to do little other than livestream myself playing video games, I doubt it would light a fire under my ass to get anything else done. Why put in the hard work when you can just cruise but still make a reasonable amount?
