It actually peaked over 5k, albeit briefly, but that was at a time when he was putting out content.

The fact he's taking in (after the site's cut) probably $20k p/y for doing one Rebuary in 3 months just astounds me.
 
Those 400-odd Patreons are probably the most loyal fanbase that ever existed. I think he owes it to them at least to explain that he effectively stopped the "Experiment". I am sure some of them would be willing to keep the Patreon going under the new name "Spoony's Charity".
 
Man I used to really love spoonys stuff, then he went crazy and became completely unlikeable while still occasionally putting out a review/video (which, in spite of him being really hard to like, we're still usually very funny and well made)

Now though whenever I check out his channel it just seems to be vlogs, live streams and just a bunch of minimal effort stuff that I'm completely uninterested in.

Damn shame about that.
 
Huh didn't know this thread was a thing...or maybe I just forgot.

Anyway, don't know much bout Spoony except I love the video he did mocking Game Crazy's ridiculous training video.
 
Did he follow through with with the review for the viewer-voted board game? Or am I asking a stupid question here...?

When he uploaded his vlogs about his production schedule and how he was pushing hard trying to keep on top of it, I thought "I should cut this guy some slack, he's never been quick but his content has always been worth the wait." I was more than willing to give him time, especially with personal issues he had.

That being said, it seems as though he's pretty much given up on the content on the site. He seems much more interested in questionable live streams and shitty Twitter squabbles than putting out the content people expect from him, and if that's what he wants to do, then fine. Unfortunately, I can't imagine that won't come with it's own set of consequences.
 
Fuck man, what a dream life. If I was making 5k a month, I'd be set.

Don't have to get up early anymore, fuck around with cold weather, dealing with assholes at work. Just get up when I want, make some quality videos, make sure my patrons are happy, and relax. Shit, if he actually gave a fuck, he could probably get to 8 or 9k a month.

But those bridges have been burned at this point. I guess he's happy. He's got some suckers paying him to do literally nothing at this point.
 
I'm glad Spoony got a better mic recently (?). He always sounded like he was streaming back from 2008. He's doing Burial at Sea right now, did Infinite yesterday.

Some should change the title . "Spoony's Experiment Failed, it's just livestreams now." At least that way people won't get unnecessarily excited when this thread gets bumbed.

Patreon is sub 2k at this point.

He's clearly not interesting in making any content that takes effort, dude is basically living off the past and I doubt this will last the year.

It's really disappointing. His videos were some of the best reviews out there, and at his peak he actually had a decent production rate going.

It's especially sad when you consider that if he had kept it up, chances are that he could reach much greater fan numbers then he ever had...

I mean I enjoy watching him talk about WWE and other things in 'lazy' vlog form since they make decent pod cast for my long drives to/from work and school, but we don't even get the vlogs on movies or anything that isn't wrestling and the occasional counter monkey which I never enjoyed. I was legit stunned when we got a review for Rebruary this year it was a moment of "oh yeah when he puts in effort he can still be entertaining". I really do hope that whatever mental health issues TSO has eventually do get figured out since when he tweets about his health on occasion it sounds pretty dire.
 
He's done it multiple times. He has bipolar disorder IIRC, as well as some heart problems which he medicates for (high blood pressure, I think. Don't remember). I don't like to gossip, but it's not secret.
 
I liked watching his reviews of both games and movies, but these days all it seems he talks about is wrestling and I have no interest in that at all.
 
Saw this bumped and hoped he'd done a new video, but no. He's going to have to get a proper job soon. He's quite clearly not producing the content that the Patreon is supposed to be for, and the people prepared to give him money in the vain hope that he'll restart some kind of regular output are dwindling. Too bad he doesn't get paid for all those tweets. His twitter followers are steadily increasing.
 
He has no business running a Patreon.

His forum is slowly dying as well. I remember how active that place was in the heyday. Aside from a few of the subforums it's basically dead.
 
This is why I prefer the Patreon model based upon deliverables like what Todd in the Shadows employs. It means that you will be forced to get content out to your paid supporters, which only makes sense. I know this doesn't work for all types of Patreons, but for ones of this sort, I think it works so much better for everyone.
 
The best for spoony would be three seperate patreons with payment on delivery for vidoegames, counter monkey and Wrestling. So people can vote witb their wallets what content he should focus on.

I don't know, I mean if he releases like 3 videos in a single week, he may make up for some of the tarnish.

But I mean he's been saying things and not delivering for a long while now. I remember that Xiii-2 stream and he was like "this is for the review right here" that was like what late 2013, early 2014?
 
That was a really good review. Too bad his release schedule is glacial nowadays, but I enjoyed the hell out of this one. Lost it first time at the Tom Selleck joke and then again at NINJA JÄGER.

You know, I almost expected a Reb Brown cameo at the end... but I guess that would've been too much. "You think you reviewed all my movies? Here's [movie]! YAAAAAARGH!"
 
imdb lists a new movie featuring Reb. Currently in post-production. So there may be something new for Spoony in the near future to look at.
 
I thought I was dreaming or something when I saw that Spoony had a new review. God damn, when he gets round to reviewing something, he's still got it.
 
Best video Spoony has put out in quite a long time. I have to assume he had this planned for Rebruary and whatever has gotten in the way of him working unimpeded delayed it until now. I hope that finishing off the last in Reb Brown's filmography spurs him onto making more reviews. He's just so much funnier than pretty much anyone else at this sort of riffing.

He's doing live streams of Persona 4, so that's something, if you like that, I guess. But for actual edited content his speed is atrocious.

I'm a fan of the guy, but at this point you're basically supporting his living expenses instead of paying for content on Patreon, since he doesn't put anything out.

Just sad when I think a few years back when he put out amazing reviews, live streams and videos constantly. Now he just seems to be occupied in arguing on Twitter and an occasional live stream.

When he started putting Counter monkey videos up i thought that a new golden age of spoony was dawning. Sadly that didn't last very long. His Ultima retrospective was really good, hell, even the Swat 4 lets play was pretty good when it came out.

The last Reb Brown video didn't even move his Patreon. It's obvious that even his most ardent fans are cynical now, and I don't think it's going to go anywhere but down unless he starts producing regular content again (other than livestreams).

I have to wonder if he is doing other things with his life. I mean, yeah it bums me out he does almost no edited work anymore (I want my Black Hole of Gaming back dammit! We voted!)

However, if the guy is doing well himself, i'd be happy for him to be in a good place, honestly.
