Damn. But like they said, this decline happens when you stop producing content.
All that tgwtg/spoony drama basically killed my interest in both sites and I regularly watched even the smaller personalities. Only person I still some times watch is brad (cinema snob) who stayed out of making comments during that mess. I've even heard that some ugly stuff has come out about the site, how the screwed Joe and blistered Thumbs and negative stuff about personalities like linkara. Guess it was good I got away from the sites when I did.

I was watching the GB playthrough of puzzle of the flesh recently and it reminded me of this dude.
Doesn't seem like their is any concrete information on why he doesn't try anymore, but it's a shame.
Especially since how big the youtube crap is now a days, dude could be making a killing.

Oh that's a shame.
I don't know how weird it is to say this, but at one point, it seemed like his brother was his only friend, and only person trying to support him.

It was a bit that i read it so tge details are hazy. A few months ago when I saw nostalgia chick stuff on YouTube suddenly I started to see what happened with the site. Had read that blistered thumbs was held up by AJ and the main tgwtg site was not actually paying the content creators from putting content on BT. That basically the BT personalities were screwed by the powers that be. The Linkara stuff was a bit more shocking. It seems he had dumped his gf when she became fully trans. The other stuff I don't really want to go into. I was mainly just trying to grasp how it all fell apart and saw a bit to much.
I like AJ most of the time he is good people. Linkara I don't want to think about. Take all this with a grain of salt this if from memory from a few links I found months ago.

Wait I thought Linkara's trans gf broke up with him. The drama from Iron Liz came because his fanbase hated her iirc.

I first heard about spoony when he started his ff8 review. The first 7 parts before his break is still some of the funniest shit I've ever seen. Still probabably his second best review besides Ultima. His FFX review was OK. I liked his phantasmagoria let's play a lot as well. Everything else he's made since then has been shit. I'm 99% sure he suffers from depression though.

We know he suffers from severe mental health issues from depression to his inability to sleep.
Honestly some of his latter reviews like vcr golf might be in his top 5 videos ever made.
If we're all being honest with ourselves, he's done.
The guy obviously has real issues and I have a lot of sympathy for that, but he also doesn't have any drive to create quality content anymore.
Sooner rather than later, the Patreon well will completely dry up and then I think that will be it for him as a content creator. I severely doubt he'll want to put the energy into recovering his site and reputation so that will likely be then end of it.

I don't think the situation is that desperate
the guy still has a following,people who are just waiting for him to actually make content to watch it...and from what we saw from the latest content,when he actually does it,he is still good at what he does.
so it's really just up to him ...if he puts out content,youtube monetization will still allow him to make some kind of money...maybe not as the patreon stuff, but he was still living of his videos before patreon was a thing.
also,while his patreons have for the most part gave up on him,on youtube you really have no drawback to keep being subscribed to a channel,even if it doesn't release content...so i doubt that all the people who followed him on youtube put the effort to go to his channel page to unsubscribe..so when (and if) he will release new content,people will know and if they liked his work before, they will continue watching

If Spoony could do 6 legit reviews a year with a smattering of vlogs on wrestling/in theater movies/dnd shenanigans I'd back him on patreon. Obviously I'd rather he got his pacing up to once a month like projared or a lot of other reviewers I follow but at least at bi-monthly I'd support his work.
What the hell does Spoony even do nowadays? He has a Patreon but produces literally nothing. He's just living off of money from random fans and doesn't give anything back.

It's really not. The commentary is not really entertaining, and it's as if he's always in a bad mood while streaming. Even the slightest hint of disagreement on absolutely anything will make him go apeshit.
I tried to watch him during a handful of streams, but stopped after his bizarrely hatefilled stream of Darkest Dungeon. He's a guy with history of hating balance in tabletop RPGs, so if he can't find even a modicum of fun in that game because it is too harsh, then I don't know when I'll see an enjoyable stream from him. The game seemed so right up his alley
Spoony sucked ever since he teamed up with Doug Walker. Met him at E3 back in 2012 and had such an assy "So full of himself" attitude. Loved his earlier Sega CD/FMV videos but the dude has been done for a looooooooong time now. I'm actually surprised people are donating him money...hell, I'm surprised he's on Patreon quite honestly.

I actually met him in 2014 (I think it was) at Too Many Games and he was a real nice dude. Talked to him for like 20 minutes, got him a couple bottle of soju (since he liked them from the one video) and so on. A few pictures, but a nice guy with my experience.

Yeah it is a real shame. Phantasmagoria 2 is still my favorite LP ever. Really wish he'd get it together and return to form.

Part of me wishes people would stop supporting him on patreon altogether, to get him to try again. But the other part of me knows it'd probably jsut make him quit.

That wouldn't really be any different from how it is now though.
I don't know about anything current but the person I had heard that about was iron Liz. As i said take it as a grain of salt as its only info I found in brief google searches on wth happened to the site as a whole. I've only glanced at the site since the spoony incident and just seeing all the negatively and undercutting they did to each other turned me off.

You know what the worst thing about all of this is, he still has the talent and can still make fantastic videos and has great humor but he does nothing with it.

I always check his website every couple of months to see if he's put anything new up. I even found his WrestleWrestle stuff entertaining. It's too bad he doesn't put much out anymore, I feel bad for the people who still pledge to his patreon.
Hell, I remember he made a video saying he was going to quit twitter so that he could focus on making videos and (at the time) a movie. Of course he didn't quit twitter, not even for a day (no surprise there)

If someone wants to give me a list of what links on his site are broken, I might be able to help.
I'm really weird and have an obsession of downloading videos that I find worthwhile. It's mostly in case the internet goes out when I want to see something in particular, but also in events like these where videos gone offline with no way to get them.
I don't have any countermonkeys or vlogs, but I think I have most if not all of his movie/game reviews and lets plays

I assume Spoony didin't reup his videos to Youtube? If that is the case I wonder if he would be ok with it if someone else does it for him so that people can still see them on a broader plattform?

well if you have one of his videos and it's not already re-uploaded on his youtube channel,or on youube at all from other users,it's pretty much gone..i would give you a list but the list itself it's gone from the website too
there are already multiple youtubers who re-upload his videos,sometime even translating them...so if it does bother him,he forgot to tell everyone

The folder titles just contain what they they say they do, but those are the largest ones of different movies.
For the record, I'm not really interested in uploading videoes on youtube, but I can upload them to mega so others have the opportunity to DL them for themselves.

I only really watch Nostalgia Critic and Angry Joe anymore. Cinema Snob isn't as good as it used to be and I stopped watching Linkara when he persisted in his god awful attempts at overarching plot. Guy is a good reviewer but a fucking terrible serious actor which was what he seemed to so desperately want to be.
Nostalgia Critic can be hit and miss these days, but I'm glad he seems to have given Malcolm and Tamara smaller roles lately. Malcolm is great but Tamara is just terrible in the sketch stuff.

Lindsay's Loose Cannon is really good.
The only Linkara stuff I really bother with is the History of Power Rangers stuff.
His comic reviews got to the point that he was spending more time on his meta plot stuff than the actual reviews. Some bullshit about a spaceship and fighting someone and...ugh it was just so poorly executed and convoluted.
Joe's style turns people off. Especially the "I only want serious thoughts" crowd. Not sure if he's in any scandals. I know there's a blog out there that's dedicated to criticizing him, but it's really shit as it's mostly racist Mexican jokes. Classy.

Yea, I'd definitely be interested in downloading your collection. I don't know if stuff like the Ripper and Phantasmagoria 2 LPs still exist but I want copies of those. And the Ultima retrospective.

I did the same stuff with a lot of TGWTG content back in the day. Was going somewhere with no internet for awhile, so decided to take a bunch with me so I could just throw them on whenever (I really like to use them as background noise after watching).

Count me interested as well. I don't suppose any of those folders contain the commentaries alongside the reviews do they? Much of that seems to unfortunately be dead on the site and not uploaded to YouTube.
The one Spoony thing I will miss because we might never get it back his Matrix Revolutions rifftrax which he did with Miles. Three other of his rifftrax are up on Dailymotion, but that one is lost since the MP3s are gone from his site. He did one for Hackers as well, but it's not a big loss since it wasn't any good.
