They should just make 8 a standalone version of Stanley Parable.
A pre-order bonus, surely.

I played this demo and it's the most worthless piece of pretentious drivel I've ever spent 20 minutes on. I came to it with an open mind and wanting to enjoy whatever this mysterious thing was.
However, there's literally nothing here, just a few rooms, some buttons to press and a voiceover that shows that the game is so far up it's own asshole that it can't see how fucking boring the whole "experience" is.
Absolute utter shit and a waste of time.
Perhaps the mod is amazing, I haven't tried it, but I certainly won't be buying the full product after this poor showing.
I thought Dear Esther set the bar for least amount of actual gameplay, story or interesting locations in a game but this demo beats it by a mile. I even enjoyed Dear Esther, accepting it was what it was.

Not sure if you are serious. I think you don't quite know what Stanley's Parable was.
GTFO
Played the original Stanley Parable mod and enjoyed it. I just played the demo, and ...found it to be downright boring and unnecessary in comparison.
I seriously don't know what you guys are blowing your load over in here. The mod was way better, and seemed more fresh/imaginative/surprising. The demo felt predictable and like it was beating a dead horse

I've tried the demo, hated it. It was the definition of intellectual masturbation. Pointless, self-indulgent with the same kind of lame, cold, nerdy humour as Portal 2 or xkcd's. It looked like the kind of game specifically made for getting articles in Kotaku, Polygon, io9 and other 'hip' websites.

Of course the full mod/game is better than a demo, it's not like anyone was pretending this blows the original away. It's a f-ing demo! All it's supposed to do is make people who haven't played the game yet interested in buying the full version in which it seemed to have succeeded (for the people on the first page of this thread anyway). The fact most people who played the original also liked it is a nice bonus if nothing
else.

Not really. All the buttons call you a sexual predator and both booths are depressing and the same every time. The "Do you like the game" buttons at the end don't work. But you can choose not to play the coffee mug game, and the narrator will just say your choice to not play is still the game and you won anyway. So unless I'm missing something, there isn't a single choice to be made in the demo?
Everything you say from now until the history of ever should be disregarded after that kind of statement.
Actually somebody did say it's" already better than the excellent mod" so yes somebody is acting like it's better than the mod. Other people who had already played the mod were also calling it "incredible" "amazing", as if were just as good as the mod, while I felt it just seemed less inspired, so that doesn't really strike me as incredible or amazing. Maybe the full game will have some amazing moments, but after playing the demo personally I'm not in a hurry to spend money on the full version
Well, the full game is supposed to be the mod + extra content so if you enjoyed the original there is no reason you wouldn't enjoy this remake regardless of the fact you didn't like the demo.
I didn't know that, was that mentioned somewhere? I have a hard time grasping what would be remade about the mod. So either there is a whole lot of extra content, or it is been significantly altered. Especially with the price they are asking.

Like everything related to TSP it's all a bit vague, but it seems to be mostly a reimagining of the original. It's not literally the mod + extra content of course, but that's probably the best way to describe it (especially since the official subtitle is just 'HD Remix') till the final version is released and we can see for ourselfs.
And well, 'Dear Esther' for example was also just a prettier re-release with a price tag, I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being kind of like that.
Think of it like this:
The mod used HL2 assets and it feels very clearly like a "mod". This is standalone, using its own assets, polished and it will feel like a "game".
It's basically like Dear Esther, if you liked/hated the mod, you don't really have to buy the prettied up standalone version, but it's very clear which of the two is the definitive one.
Also what price? I thought they haven't announced it yet?
How in the world is that "amazing"? If it weren't for small stuff like that, there wouldn't be any point to even playing the game.Just played the demo. The Eight game is amazing. If you just stay there pressing the button the narrator will keep talking about stuff for like 5-10 minutes before giving up on you.
.
Has anyone heard anything about the price? The game is releasing on Thursday, but still no price listed.
Most probably change to the countdown image from the end of the demo.I wonder what the tiny patch did.
The whole time playing this, I kept thinking the "demo" would become the full game. That would have been something. The 4th wall breaking, games as art, posh British voiceover thing doesn't resonate with me. I'm intrigued enough to pick it up in a sale, but I'm pretty sure I don't "get" Stanley Parable.
Played the demo and really like it.
The achievement didn't unlock properly though and its not saved to my profile. I honestly dont know if that is intentional or not.
That dumb part of me wants to go back and play it again to unlock it but I think the game might make fun of me.

Also you can go through the door at the beginning before your number is called. In fact if you stick around in the room he will tell you you're silly for not realizing it.
I think the "remember the good times" part at the end is clips from the actual game. Can't wait.
I wish Steam had a price listed. I am guessing $10. Seems high. We don't even know how long it is yet. We'll find out in 5 days.
The entire game is like that. The narrator is telling a story, you can do what he says or disobey him and get a different path.
Is anyone doing the OT for this? I'm not volunteering, just wondering if we'll have an official home to go to after tomorrow, when this topic will be irrelevant.
Still no word on the price, as far as I can tell. Kinda odd.
