In the psychological thriller directed by Lorcan Finnegan, a man returns to the idyllic beach of his childhood to surf with his son. But his desire to hit the waves is thwarted by a group of locals whose mantra is "don't live here, don't surf here." Humiliated and angry, the man is drawn into a conflict that keeps rising in concert with the punishing heat of the summer and pushes him to his breaking point.

This is how I imagine every interaction between Aussies and a typical American goes down.

This film had better end up with Cage holding a belt fed M-60, mowing down everyone on the beach :P

They are definitely going for a 70's vibe, hard to say if they can sustain it though. These types of "common man hits his breaking point" usually fall apart in the third act.

At first I thought it was going to be another one of these increasingly generic John Wick inspired action movies.
Glad to see it's apparently something a bit more interesting and unique, plus Nic Cage so I'm in.

After being very disappointed with Renfield, but very pleasantly surprised by Massive Talent, I guess I see where this falls on the Nic. Cage hate it or love it list.

Rented it last night on Prime and thought it was really good. Definitely trippier than I expected, like DKehoe DKehoe said. Makes you question whether what's happening is real or he's losing his mind. Another great Cage performance.

WTF!? I forgot about this one. That, and a couple of games I need to get to and report back to a couple of threads. Fuck, I feel like such a procrastinator, but without the actual intent to procrastinate!
Watching this on Weds. Night. Looked very interesting to me. I got Karate Kid Meets Dying Light Meets The Menu Meets Mandy type of vibes.

Just googled what this movie is about, and it's based on a Surf Gang from my hometown, the Lunada Bay Boys. House I grew up in was in Lunada Bay, in Palos Verdes, CA.

I had to think on this one for a bit, but in the end, I *REALLY* liked it.
I thought it had a lot to say about belonging, wanting to belong, "gatekeeping" -- for lack of a better word -- as well as paths and choices we take and make in life. (And for the conspiracy/tinfoilers--which I can be one, no shade--it could show a darker, hidden truth)
And, it's Nic Cage, where "every word of dialogue is spoken in either a whisper or a scream," for crying out loud.
I think this was Julian McMahon's next-to-last film. I didn't recognize him at first.
Definitely not for all tastes -- but I very much liked it.
