It happens with every podcast eventually... the hosts move on to bigger things. The hard part is finding new podcasts to fill the void.

Another podcast I'm not sure will last much longer is the /filmcast, dave works for microsoft now, devindra works for a major tech blog and adam is starting to get his footing too. They've already scaled back the show, cutting out the afterdark segment effectively making it half as much content per week. it's only a matter of time before it's bye-bye :(

It's still amazing when you think about how much time and effort a lot of these people put into these shows when the compensation is probably quite small.

I quite like Film Sack. It's up to 140 episodes now. They do the same format for each show, a fairly lighthearted & sometimes very funny discussion about a movie they all watched on Netflix that week, from genre classics to more obscure stuff. Every so often they do a commentary episode to listen along with as you watch the movie yourself.

Jeff was on the TWiT network a few times recently. He would make that place suck a lot less, but I doubt they're in a position to afford him right now.

Jeff would be a great co-host for a show like Frame Rate with Tom Merritt. Brushwood is just too OTT for me.

I haven't listened to the /filmcast since a little after they switched the day they recorded the show a few years ago. Used to listen to it live every week for a few years. I knew about Devindra working for VentureBeat but the Dave info I had not heard. What does he do at Microsoft?

Today is the last day of TRS shoots. Mike posted this on twitter a little while ago

I remember when they started, right after Geekdrome ended...at that time Fat Canatta annoyed the fuck out of me because he was the new guy on the internet reviewer and he gushed too much. Years later (and pounds lost) I think hes the shows best asset and his "love for loving things" is kind of infectious..and if it wasnt for old man Garnett acting like a 14 year old Id love to keep up with his opinions on weekend confirmed.

Absolutely. He'd be perfect for Frame Rate, or at least better than Scott Wilkinson.
During the pre-show of Tech News Today that Jeff was recently on,Tom suggested that Jeff should be on an episode of Frame Rate. Hopefully we won't have to wait very long for him to be on an episode.

Sad news. I enjoyed that they often disagreed with each other.

I suppose I tuned out quite a bit after Dan stopped giving feedback for films. I always appreciated his opinions on film and was sad to see him become just a mediator for Jeff and Alex.

Yeah, and you could tell by the questions he was asking them that he was just itching to get involved in the discussions. I can understand why he did it though.

I will tune in to whatever Jeff does. It would be amazing to have him at Giant Bomb, but I'm not sure those guys would add someone to the crew at this point, and the whole LA/San Fran divide.

Just watched. Great last words to go out on, kind of wish Alex shut up a bit though so Jeff and Dan could have more of an emotional moment. Oh well, good last episode even though I usually completely disagree with their movie choices -- somehow they are great at hyping things up though with their demeanor.

wow, had no idea this was still being made.

i used to love this shows before they turned it into non-weekly thing.

Seriously, that ending was very touching and sad.

It's like...I don't know, I guess it's like seeing some buddies move away from you or something. Sure, they're gonna call or text once in a while, but it's never going to be "that" again. Like I said, I've always loved the show, and I always knew it was something that I could turn on and always enjoy.

It's weird because all of my friends don't really like this kind stuff, I mean they play video games and watch TV/movies, but it's never anything as nerdy as this, nor do they have interesting opinions with a lot of depth on these things. It was cool because these were a lot less formal then reviews, but structured enough so that you got a really great show out of it every day. It's going to suck not hearing the guys' different opinions on stuff, especially stuff that's out of their wheelhouse; I've always loved that. Honestly, I'm glad that I can still hear Jeff talk about games on Weekend Confirmed, but I don't really know where Dan and Alex do other stuff, so that's another sad part of this I guess. Either way, it's not the same obviously as hearing all three interact with each other.

Anyway, I hope that the guys all have very great futures and are very successful, I'm sure they know that they'll always have the TRS bump for whatever project they do, so the fans will be there. I still have a feeling we haven't seen the last of the guys though...I know this seemed pretty final, but I could see them try and regroup once a year to do some more Raddies or something. Even so, what's done is done, and I hope them all the best!

Anyone shocked at how good looking 2N1T is? I always pictured him as a scrawny nerd with glasses, acne, and a greasy black ponytail.

They started losing me when they began playing made up games with each other and calling it an episode. I still enjoyed their movie and TV reviews though. The problem with dividing the show up into 5 parts a week is that it became much easier to ignore most of the show.

Was this because of some sort of internal beef?

I doubt it. Dan is starting work on his movie and probably couldn't commit time to the show anymore so I'm guessing it was a choice of finding a replacement or deciding to call it a day.

Also, Alex seemed kinda glad the whole thing was finishing up. Seemed to me like he was getting bored of the show.

I didn't know there was a thread!

Go figure that both Avatars would take their awards. :p
And it's fitting that Portal would win, giving Dan's situation.

It was so odd seeing the 1 hour format again. I just got used to the daily episodes, I guess.

Best of luck to everyone... but yeah, there's no real replacement - especially on the video podcast front.

Well, I remember when Dan's first video podcast exploded and the guys split with some bitterness. Maybe he's a fan of the other guy (whose name I can't remember, sadly :p).

I think this was really that the guys wanted to move on and do other stuff. That's my guess, and that's the impressions I've had.

TRS had accumulated a pile of shame on my iPod of late; I just didn't enjoy the show as much as a daily as I did the weekly. (I was one of the people on the Rev3 forums who 'feared change' according to the hosts, and even hated the shift away from the homage openings.)

While I'm sad to see it go, I can honestly say it's probably time. I had been wondering how the show would continue with Dan becoming the Man (for Universal). I'll keep following Jeff on a weekly basis with C|Net's "Always On" and Weekend Confirmed, and I'm hopeful that Alex will land on his feet.

They had a good run.

Is "Always On" available in podcast form?

Alex is already on a Nerdist show, isn't he?

And yeah, I must admit, I hated the move to daily as well. For the most part, they just stopped doing the "excursion" episodes since it never fit into the 10 minute format unfortunately.

Man, that ending.... Good luck to all the TRS peeps. I stopped watching once they divided stuff up and moved to daily format. I have always preferred longer format shows both at work and at home.

Success attracts envy and bitterness.

Not at all. I like watching movies not making them.

Just keeping it real..that movie will not get past the development stage.
Universal Studios - A studio that's head is barely above water.
First time producer - from a writing background
First time director.
The writer of 12 Rounds.

It ain't happening.

I mean you say it like it's a stone-cold fact. Those odds are definitely not in his favor, but hardship and limitations usually create the best films. Listen, I'm not trying to sound like a TRS fanboy, I sure I am sounding like one a little bit, but all I'm saying is at least give the guy some time before you completely write him and his movie off. Everybody has a first time, and the first time is almost never something well known or established. Just give it a shot before you declare it dead.
--------------------------------------

So...this is weird, do I unsubscribe from them now? I mean, I feel like it'd be fitting since that was the last episode or whatever, but I just don't know how I'd find out about a reunion show if I wasn't subscribed to it, as I don't use Twitter.

Wow, this is depressing news. I was late to the TRS party, but I really enjoyed it. They all seem like nice guys, and they put me onto a bunch of great movies and games I would have never found. Bummer...

I just watched the final episode, bummed out. So where is everyone turning to to try and fill this void?

I already listen to Weekend Confirmed
do not like Player 1 podcast
do not like Giantbomb podcast
I am going to try CAGcast but I have no idea.

I'm lost
