Yeah.
That's how I remember it.Dead said:I think VoT was always meant to be an expansion/companion piece to the Creation/Space/Time stuff from ToL
And with only 12-15 minutes worth of the creation footage, after 45 minutes was reportedly prepared. It would be a huge waste not to release VoT.Dead said:That would seem extremely unlikely I think since the running time is apparently only ~135 minutes or so...
I hope on Blu-Ray we get to see the full The Tree of Life cut (which was screened a few times in 2010), which contains all of the creation footage for VoT and longish sequences since removed by Malick.Expendable. said:No one will ever see the complete cut of The Thin Red Line, right? Every time I read this it just blows my mind:
The whole production is pretty fascinating.
There were rumours for a while that he was considering it. But I wouldn't bet on it ever seeing release.Dead said:You know, Malick could probably edit an entirely new 2nd film just from the remaining footage of TTRL.
How wild is that?
I've seen 35mm prints of Badlands and Days of Heaven, but not the ones I really want to see, The Thin Red Line and The New World. Hopefully a retrospective will come near me sometime soon.Expendable. said:This will be my first Malick films in theaters. Same for anyone else?
fuck no. Malick's flicks are too emotionally distant and melancholy for the academy or the mainstream as a whole to appreciate. They always get a shitload of hype because of the whole myth that has been built up that is Terrence Malick which gets some people to go see the film and then they fucking hate it. This happened with The Thin Red Line and again with The New World. I'm expecting the same thing here. Critics will pan the shit out of it and it will only be seen as a great film in a few years' hindsight in the general public.Solo said:Someone on IMDb said Pitt has the Oscar in the bag. Might as well go to Vegas and bet everything on it.
I saw the first cut of The New World that was released only at one theater in LA and one in NY for a week for awards eligibility. LOVED that movie.Expendable. said:Ack, I need to pick that up and Days of Heaven.

Sometimes a film comes along that transforms everything. The way we see art. The way we see life. The way we see ourselves and others.
That's...too much.Expendable. said:Fox Searchlight is sending out the poster and a note to press. I should be getting mine tomorrow, but /Film snapped a pic: http://twitpic.com/4k92q5
At the end of the day it's just another movie.Snowman Prophet of Doom said:God, I almost don't want to hype myself for this one. It clearly looks great, but I wonder if I'm building up an impossible standard for myself, ya know?
Wrong. It's going to change the way you look at art, life, yourself and others.Jtwo said:At the end of the day it's just another movie.

I mean, what else needs to be said?

Hunter McCracken is a much, much bigger part of the film than Sean Penn.Jangaroo said:Yeah, that child actor has gotten far more screen time trailer wise than Penn. Curious to see how that plays out into the actual film what with the editing for the trailer.
So he is? He's been great in the footage so far.Krev said:Hunter McCracken is a much, much bigger part of the film than Sean Penn.

marathonfool said:I'd like to see a coherent trailer. The teaser is great and all, but I want to at least know what characters are in the film.

There you go!
That guy gives a lot of impressions that I don't agree with. Glad his IB avatar is gone because he doesn't deserve it_dementia said:Malick bro.
Plus that one imdb user said BP killed it.
I feel like blader and the trailer actually gave you all you need to know. We'll know more about the characters in the actual film, but from the trailer we already know it's a young family that grows up as each seems to coexist/battle with nature and with the people around them, delivering a message on the meaning of life as a whole along the way.marathonfool said:I'd like to see a coherent trailer. lol. Have you seen any of Malick's movies? That IS a coherent trailer.marathonfool said:I'd like to see a coherent trailer. The teaser is great and all, but I want to at least know what characters are in the film.
